  • "A really comfortable, well equipped house and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

We were warned about the access issue but it was tricky arriving after dark. However, we parked in the bay on the road and because the location is good, we were able to do walks from the door and didn’t use the car until we left, so that was great. My only criticism would be about the temperature - it’s cosy once the temperature has been manually adjusted but a default of 10.5 is too low so chilly on arrival which isn’t very welcoming, and downstairs isn’t warm in the morning - by the time you’ve turned up the thermostat, you’re ready to go out before a comfortable temperature is reached and then it’s cool again when you return at the end of the day.

  • "Great property in all aspects."

Quiet location yet minutes from facilities. Walking direct from door, so hardly used the car. Very comfortable property with all mod cons! Would definitely stay again.

  • "Extremely clean and well presented in a great location."

We were happy with the parking situation and hardly used the car once parked up everything we needed was on our doorstep. Thank you we hope to stay again soon.

Great that you enjoyed your stay. We also do not use our car once we have arrived. That makes things so much more relaxing. Do come again. Regards from Alison and Chris Property Owner

The location was perfect and was so quiet and peaceful. My brother and I couldn’t find any fault with it. Will definitely stay again if we return to the Lake District. Many thanks.

  • "What an amazing little place."

Perfect for our getaway. Useful information booklet and the house was well equipped. Bedrooms are a good size and the beds were very comfy. Small outside area to have a coffee in the morning and a short walk up to a lovely cafe ‘force’ or down into Ambleside. There is a garage to park your car and even though it’s small we did managed to park our qashqai in there. We hope to return.

Thank you for your feedback! So glad you enjoyed your stay and found the house comfortable. We also love how easy it is to get to Ambleside and the Force café, and yet it feels so peaceful once you are home-. We look forward to welcoming you in the future. Property Owner

  • "Excellent compact property on the outskirts of Ambleside."

Short walk into the town to all the facilities. Lovely open plan kitchen diner living space with two good size double beds. Very well stocked (with the exception of kitchen roll and we couldn’t find an iron and board) Great house in the heart of our favourite town in the Lakes. Recommended!

Thank you for your feedback, Paul. So glad you enjoyed the house and its easy access to Ambleside. We will look into providing an iron and ironing board, thanks for the suggestion. And please do stay at Merry Bank again. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is lovey, very clean and everything you need for a nice stay."

Really enjoyed the weekend. We did feel there was a lot if rules and slightly uncomfortable with the door bell camera and camera at the back of the house, not that we would do anything wrong, just a bit big brother! We appreciate not everyone looks after other people's property so there is a need for some rules. The description did say outside space with furniture and this wasn't true as there wasn't any?? I'm not sure we would rent this property again but it was a lovely house. The garage wasn't a problem as we had read the reviews and took a smaller car. The garage fits an audi a1 in, no problem.

Thank you for your feedback Emma. The security cameras and doorbell are from a time when the house was empty and being renovated. They weren’t recording or being monitored, but we have now removed them and the doorbell camera is covered and inactive. We have also now put out the patio furniture which had been in winter storage. So sorry it wasn’t in place in time for you. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "Immaculate place to stay!"

Great location to explore The Lakes. The property was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. I was particularly impressed with the area to dry your clothes under the stairs. The only negative is the car parking space in the garage is small; however; it is doable and there are off road parking spaces in the locality if you don’t fancy using it.

Thank you for your feedback,Shelley. We are pleased that you enjoyed the house and it met your needs. Glad you made use of the drying room under the stairs. It is useful for drying dry wet waterproofs! Property Owner

  • "We found Merry Bank to be an ideal property to base ourselves in Ambleside."

It has all the facilities we required in a very quiet location but just a few minutes walk to the town centre. We would certainly book this property again in the future.

Shaun, great to hear you enjoyed your stay and found everything you needed- we would love to have you back. Thank you for submitting the feedback. Property Owner

  • "Hi as i mentioned my e mail, its a lovely house but the garage is not big enough for modern cars to drive in and open a door to get out."

Also people park their cars in front of their garages as they can't use them and so block up the car park/ garages. Luckily as out of season we manged to find a space on the hill to park a bit away, in season there would be no chance. Therefore i believe the house should not be advertised with garage parking [ no one measures their cars ] merely storage for say bikes . So we will not use Merry Bank again.

It offers a garage for one car, a front lawn with bench and an enclosed patio to the rear for al fresco dining.

This property is ideal for friends, or two couples looking for a base in the heart of the Lake District.

There are multiple classic walks that can be undertaken from the front door- climb to Wansfell Pike and loop down to Lake Windermere via Troutbeck, venture up to Red Screes or walk through Ambleside to Rydal Water or over Loughrigg fell to the beautiful and secluded Loughrigg Tarn or down to Grasmere.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants, and pubs in the village to suit all tastes, including the popular eateries of Misto, Sheila's Cottage, and The Lily Bar. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
