  • "Nice property well maintained."

We would have expected some soap for each sink and a few more toilet rolls. But one of the better ones we have stayed at in the lakes and would recommend. Good location. Parking is always tricky in Ambleside but the parking voucher was a real help. Overall a really good stay in a lovely house.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Hazel Cottage. We appreciate your comments on the soap and toilet roll but as this is a self catering property, it is up to guests to bring their own items. We hope to welcome you back again. Very comfortable for 3 couples with 2 en-suites and a main bathroom. Kitchen well supplied and clean. Only criticism would be attention to cobwebs dotted around the house. They look old as well!

  • "We all loved HAZEL COTTAGE which was perfectly located close to local shops, amenities, restaurants and sites."

We were lucky with the weather which was sunny throughout our stay. We were welcomed with wine, Prosecco, chocolates and a Happy Anniversary Card which was so thoughtful and appreciated. We did have a few issues however including a front door that wouldn’t close unless you forcibly slammed it and only being issued with one front door key between 3 adult couples which was restrictive as we often wanted to go on different trips and excursions. We also had a problem with the Macerator in the en-suite toilet which wouldn’t stop taking in water and became noisy and very intrusive. We were eventually able to contact Sykes who sent Maintenance staff to fix it. Every thing worked as it should and the house was well equipped - the kitchen was laden with utensils, the TV worked well and the WiFi worked throughout the 3 storeys of the house. The decor and furniture were of great quality but there were small decor issues - cracked plaster, door knobs throughout instead of handles for older people who may have gripping issues but we all had a great time and enjoyed our stay at HAZEL COTTAGE immensely.

Thank you. Extremely clean and well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed. The crockery was of a high quality, the only problem was that the large plates did not fit in the dishwasher! The cottage was close to all the shops, restaurants and amenities. I think we sampled every coffee shop whilst we were there. Would definitely like to revisit. Ambleside is a lovely little town with easy access to the countryside around.

The cottage itself is beautifully furnished throughout and everything fully functional and most importantly, spanking clean. In addition to the thoughtful Welcome Packs in the kitchen there was also a bottle of wine and chocolates, a lovely gesture. We would not hesitate to recommend this lovely holiday home.

  • "Really Fantastic stay!"

Spotlessly clean and extremely cosy with thoroughly modern furnishings. We were lucky enough to meet owners Nicky and Steve on departure and they were lovely and we were delighted to thank them for the biscuits, chocolates and wine left for our arrival. Great location in the middle of the town. 24 car parking permit extremely handy as the kings street car park is a short walk (maybe three minutes?). Really good information guides available in the cottage which helped with our planning. Overall we were delighted with everything!

  • "Hazel cottage is a lovely, warm and beautifully refurbished cottage in a great location."

Kitchen is very well equipped. Having the parking permits was great and we really appreciated the wine and chocolates, welcome nibbles and cleaning product. Sadly the top floor e-suite shower leaked into the room below so we had to stop using it which was inconvenient as we specifically chose a cottage with three bathrooms. We were only disturbed by the builders next door on Thursday. They were very, very loud! Fortunately we had planned to go walking. However, I think a warning should go on the description until building works finish so people who want peace and quiet do not make a mistake. I would definitely book Hazel cottage again. We really loved it.

Hello thank you for taking the time to feedback to us, we are so pleased you loved Hazel Cottage. Sincere apologies for the leaky shower issue, we were not aware of this and will ensure it is fixed. We will speak to the builders regarding their noise levels and time frames so that we can advise accordingly. Thank you once again for letting us know and we really hope to welcome you back soon. • "This was our fourth stay in Hazel Cottage and, as usual, we had a great time."

There were a couple of maintenance issues that I would just like to draw to your attention though: the rear right gas burner, although we could get it to ignite, would not stay lit. We could not get the radiator in the top floor ensuite to come on at all. Lastly, the carpet on the threshold of the first bedroom (not ensuite) on the first floor was a bit frayed and could become a trip hazard. None of this affected our stay - I just wanted to point it out so that you are aware.

Hello Fiona, thank you so much for your feedback, we are delighted that you enjoy staying at Hazel Cottage and thank you for your repeated visits. We have just returned from a quick snowy visit and have sorted the radiator issue so it's toasty once more. We are taking steps to rectify that troublesome bit of carpet again and I was not aware of the burner problem so I'll have it checked. If you ever have a problem whilst staying please call Lakelovers and they will aim to sort it very quickly for you. Thanks again for letting us know Kind regards Nicky Property Owner

The cottage was well looked after and had everything we needed. The beds were really comfy and it was so useful to be able to have the option of having the rooms as twins for the children. The shower in the main bathroom was amazing too!! We also really appreciated a parking permit and whilst you can’t park right outside the car park is only a 2 minute walk up the road. We would definitely stay here again and would happily recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Ambleside.

  • "The property was of a very high standard and very comfortable."

The only drawback was some of the small details that make a start feel truly comfortable, such as soap in the WC, laundry detergent, sugar for tea and salt/pepper. Unfortunately all of these were missing so we had to purchase them including hand soap for the bathrooms. There was a box for laundry detergent but it was filled with dishwashing tablets so perhaps the cleaner/owner was not aware it was missing. Having these small items available would have made the stay that bit better. However overall it was very high quality and we'd certainly stay again if we went to Ambleside. The location by the town centre was very handy. However the parking situation was also a minor drawback as the parking token was only valid from 6pm-10am and for 1 hour between 10am-6pm. So we found ourselves constantly moving our car and not always able to park by the flat.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Just to clarify the parking situation at Hazel Cottage, we provide a parking permit which enables you to park in the nearby car parks 24/7 so you can park up and forget about your car. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Kindest regards Nicky Property Owner

Perfect location for hiking straight from your door (we parked the car and didn’t use it for our entire stay) whilst also being right in the lovely village near shops and restaurants. Surprisingly quiet, tastefully decorated with everything we needed, the only reason it didn’t get the 5th star was it was very cold upon arrival and took the whole of the first evening to warm up. However cleanliness let it down slightly. It was generally clean but a few small areas needed attention - dirty on top of cooker hood - much more than 1 weeks grime - glasses in cupboard pretty dirty - all had to be washed before using. Mouldy bread in the bread bin. A lot of random food in the freezer. Any glass surface was very smeary (e.g. tv / bathroom mirrors / shower screens) Windows didn’t look like they had been cleaned all year. Dead flies all over the dining room window sill at start of week. Wanted to light the fire midweek on a cold evening but no starter pack for the fire as advertised. Two random hoodies on back of door in main bedroom. Last visitor knocked on the door early Friday morning and asked for them. Would have expected them yo be removed as part of checks from holiday company and owner contacted about them, not just left. Also website should say 48 hours notice is require to make beda up as doubles (I called with 2 working days notice prior to arrival. Also if rooms are twin as default the should be photographed as such on marketing materials.

No welcome pack here. Not even a grain of sugar in the kitchen. Told to expect a starter pack for the wood burning stove, the info folder said the same and to expect a bag of logs in the yard. No logs in the house and none in the yard. Found the log store, luckily unlocked so problem solved. Hot water ok but no central heating. Yes it is May but raining all weekend and only 8 degrees. Sent an email to Lakelovers but no response. Parking information not clear, recommended Kings Street car park with the permit, but on closer inspection it is short stay, only 4 hours. Is this the case, or does the permit allow longer. Clarity needed. Bathtowels are good quality but way to small child size. Zip link beds need a mattress topper when made into King size. R hand opening window in top floor bedroom was open and could not be closed due to the latches being misaligned. Had to force it closed in the night due torrential rain.

We are sorry to hear the welcome logs were not provided for your arrival, this has been notified to the cleaner. Welcome hampers unfortunately are not supplied in all self-catering properties, apologies for the disappointment. We also regret to hear there was an issue with the central heating, our emergency contacts are available should you be faced with such urgent matters. The parking permit provided can be used in a range of carparks in the Lakes (stated on the back of the parking permit) Property Owner

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
