"A village we know well but first stay at this cottage."
A couple of early niggles were quickly sorted with the owner and we had a lovely time overall, despite the weather! The beds downstairs were really comfortable as were the sofas and the welcome pack was much appreciated - thank you!
-
"A delightful, spacious apartment in a lovely village."
Spotless through out with the exception of the dining area windows which had cobwebs and letters drawn in the dirt !
-
"A lovely cottage in a delightful area."
Plenty of good walks in the area, also pubs serving good food
-
"A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting- one we have stayed in many times."
Well appointed and a lovely welcome pack. An ideal base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales
-
"The house itself was very good."
Two small points:- 1. Would have liked a coffee machine in kitchen. 2. Didn't know/couldn't find the Sky code & therefore unable to see recordings of programmes after 9.00pm. The garden was a big disappointment. No direct access, only via front door & through garage. Not easy with a keen dog early in am. Also very small, no view & shared with neighbours. Plastic furniture stored in garage.

"He cottage is lovely fantastic view, just need a few little things, definitely needs some sort of gate at the top of the stairs, if you got small children can be quite dangerous, and definitely needs new pillows on the beds very uncomfortable and hard and flat, and please be aware that if you got a dog, you can’t go and the grass at the front we got stopped on our arrival by a resident on the road to tell us dogs wasn’t allowed on the grass anywhere round the cottages."
And it’s very dangerous on the back garden to let your dog off the lead they is a drop into a stream which has no fence and is a shared garden with 2 other properties. We did manage to cope ok, just walk up the road they is some grass outside The Buck Inn pub and they don’t stop you.
"Thank you very much for your feedback following your recent stay at 2 Dalegarth. We really want all our guests to enjoy holidaying at our cottage and so we always welcome any comments. We pride ourselves on trying to provide our guests with a 'home from home' experience and thankfully the majority of our visitors comment on how welcoming and well-equipped our cottage is. However, we take on board the suggestions you have made and will endeavour to do what we can to improve and enhance the facilities etc wherever possible for the future enjoyment of our guests. * *With regard to the specific items you mention, we hope the following will be of interest:- * *Your suggestion to provide a baby gate for the safety of children and the restriction of access for pets is understood and we will certainly make one available as soon as possible;* *Several of the pillows have been replaced quite recently and, even for a party of two, there are always at least eight pillows available, either on the beds or in the wardrobes. We do try to provide a variety of thicknesses, to cater for all guests' preferences and we have asked our changeover lady to check and replace any that are needed;* *The lawns and gardens opposite the front of the cottage are communal and used by other residents and visitors to Dalegarth, which often include young children. With their health in mind, the residents decided many years ago to ask all occupants not to allow their pets to use these areas and to take them off-site, to allow them to do the necessary away from Dalegarth (and, of course, to collect and dispose of any 'waste' hygienically). This makes Dalegarth a safer place for all garden users, particularly children, and also means that the lawns do not become discoloured or need reseeding.* *The garden at the rear of the cottage, leading down to the stream, is unfenced to provide a more pleasing outlook and we do advise that all dogs **should be kept on a lead for their own safety.* *We hope that the above addresses your queries and will reassure all our visitors that their comfort and enjoyment of the cottage is always at the forefront of our minds.* *Julie and Peter" Property Owner

"Had a lovely week again in this cottage, everything you need , and lovely walks from the doorstep"
-
"Lovely cottage in a quiet location, will return."
-
"The property was immaculate, very pet friendly, even treats and dog towels laid out."
It was warm and cosy, well equipped with everything. The views are amazing from the windows. You have 20 pheasants as neighbours! The Buck Pub is 200 yarda away, great food. We will be booking again, we had the best time.

"A comfortable 'home from home' in a beautiful, peaceful setting, with plenty of walks from the door."
-
"Very comfortable cottage, well equipped."
Could do with a washing machine, clothes line and pegs, as suitable plumbing exists in the garage. A second upright chair would be useful as not all of us find it comfortable to lounge when we get older. Good position for scenic walks and drives etc. Good quality feeding establishments in neighbouring villages. Excellent supermarket (R. Campbell) at Leyburn.

"Delightful cottage in delightful village."
We couldn’t get the tv to work. The radio didn’t work. The heating didn’t come on as suggested and wasn’t adjustable so we were a bit cold some evenings. A kind neighbour was able to get the tv partially working but not all channels. We were disappointed that there was no contact number at all if we had an emergency.
We were very sad to learn that there were technical issues during your time at Dalegarth and we hope that the problems experienced did not detract too much from the overall stay at our cottage. We take our customer feedback very seriously and we do try to do our best to ensure our guests have a pleasant and comfortable holiday and are very sorry if, on this occasion, certain aspects within the cottage didn't function as expected. Our 'Welcome Information' folder, which is located within the cottage does provide detailed information about the cottage, its beautiful location and instructions and user guides for all the major appliances, including the TV and heating system. There is also an emergency local contact telephone number and an email address if guests wish to contact us (the Owners) directly. We are always happy to hear from you and to assist if anything is not clear. We were concerned that the Welcome Information folder had somehow disappeared before your arrival, but our changeover staff have confirmed it is still in situ on the sideboard, but we will try to make sure it is in as prominent a position as possible, in future. "Lovely warm cottage , everything we needed, booked again for next year"
-
"The property is in a wonderful location."
It's very comfortable and the kitchen is modern and well equipped. Elsewhere the property has a slightly dated feel and might benefit from some cosmetic modernisation. It was good value for money, nonetheless.
-
"Superb location, our 3rd stay, outstanding accommodation, so comfortable."
Will certainly return.

"This is a really lovely comfortable clean and spacious property in a fabulous setting."
Beautiful walks from the doorstep, and some lovely pubs to eat out within walking distance. I would not say that the garden is private, as stated in the listing, in the sense that it is open plan with the other cottages in the row, and accessible through the garage or via the end of the row. It is, however, very clean and well kept, and pleasant to sit in for a while after a long walk. I would definitely recommend this property, and be happy to go back in future.

"A very well appointed and well placed cottage."
Spotless. Thankyou
-
"Would have liked a washing machine."
after a few days of wet walking it would have been nice to wash a few clothes instead of taking muddy clothes home with us
-
"We have a lovely stay at Dalegarth and the cottage was excellent in every respect."
Very good communication with the owners and they were very helpful,
-
"We loved The Buck Inn, the shop, the walks by the river - most of all the comfort of 2 Dalegarth."
As regular cottagers (!) the modern style is really welcome. It was warm. It was spotlessly clean. Superbly equipped. Ideally situated.
-
"We had a really enjoyable stay at Dalegarth The cottage was an excellent base for our walking holiday"
-
"We had a great time very warm and comfortable."
kitchen very well equipped and spacious. Liked the upside down element with the living room upstairs nice to sit and look out. We would definitely come back if we decide to visit this area of Yorkshire again.
-
"I was very happy with the cottage and the service from Sykes."
Very clean, good quality furniture and particularly great kitchen items. I am recently widowed and it was my very first experience of a holiday arranged by myself and I did feel my experience with both the owner and Sykes before I started my holiday meant that I could contact them anytime if I had any problems. Information in the cottage were clear and comprehensive. The only little point that maybe should be mentioned is that my provider for my phone is EE and there is no service almost throughout the whole Village
-
"Lovely accommodation very well equipped, very convenient location for stunning walks from the front door and a very friendly local pub."
-
"Excellent accommodation;clean, comfortable, warm with good all round facilities."
Outside sitting area was shared by adjoining properties with basic seating, but not really a problem in October. Would have been less useful in summer. All in all a good experience and value for money.

"We really enjoyed our stay at 2 Dalegarth."
It is a beautifully appointed cottage with everything you could want for a lovely stay. It was beautifully clean on our arrival and is in a fabulous location, exactly as it is described. Just a few minor observations;- 1- the markings on the oven are rubbed away and the instructions for the grill not particularly clear. We did eventually work out the grill. 2. One of the frying pans has seen better days. 3. The mattress on the double bed wasn't especially comfortable. Overall it was a brilliant place to stay in and superbly presented. We will be recommending it to all of our friends and look forward to staying again.

The property
Tucked away in a peaceful cul-de-sac on the outskirts of the pretty village of Buckden rests this charming stone-built terraced cottage, 2 Dalegarth.
Nestled alongside the tranquil waters of the brook and amongst the rolling meadows and woodlands of Yorkshires Upper Wharfedale Valley, 2 Dalegarth provides an idyllic base in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, perfect for families and friends looking to tour this picturesque area.
Boasting a quirky upside down layout, the first floor of this lovely dwelling houses a well-equipped kitchen where you can utilise the range of modern amenities provided to whip up delicious home-cooked meals before serving the fruits of your labour at the dining table in the nearby living/dining room.
Settle down for the evening with a sumptuous seat on the sofa, flicking on the television to enjoy a movie marathon with your loved ones whilst the glow of the electric fire gently warms the room, or venture outdoors and soak in the last of the evening sun with a crisp glass of wine as your canine companion stretches their legs in the peaceful setting of your very own garden.
When sleep calls, choose to snuggle up under the covers in the double bedroom, or retire to the light and airy twin bedroom, conveniently nestled on the ground floor and ideal for guests with limited mobility.
Servicing the property is the family bathroom, complete with both a bath and overhead shower, so you can decide how best to prepare for the day ahead.
Resting a stone's throw away from the heart of Buckden, a short stroll will bring you to a handful of local amenities, including the traditional country pub, The Buck Inn, with views from the beer garden overlooking the valley, providing the perfect setting for an evening tipple following a day of adventure.
There's a plethora of walking trails available from your doorstep, with the idyllic circular loop passing through Rakes Wood to the peaceful hamlet of Cray, where you can marvel at the tumbling waterfalls and deep pools en route.
For a more challenging route, tackle the climb to the summit of Buckden Pike as it towers over 700 metres, offering panoramic views across the scenic landscape of North Yorkshire from the top.
Jump in the car and venture further afield to the market town of Grassington, where you can immerse yourself in the fascinating local history at Grassington Folk Museum or savour fresh fish and chips with a scenic stroll along the banks of the River Wharfe.
Next stop is Skipton, where you can test your swing with a round of golf at the 18-hole course, explore the medieval dungeons of Skipton Castle, dating back to the 12th century, or pick up a keepsake to remind you of your wonderful staycation at Craven Court Shopping Centre.
For a homely base in a fantastic location, choose 2 Dalegarth. The cottage is surrounded by well kept and maintained gardens to the front and rear and there is a communal green area opposite the front of the cottage as you enter the cul-de-sac.
The cottage garden at the rear should be accessed through the garage, which is where the garden furniture is stored.
The rear garden is open-plan with the neighbouring properties (for ease of maintenance) and it leads down to a pretty stream.
However, it should be noted that the area is unfenced and therefore children should be supervised at all times and dogs kept on a lead.
The lawns and gardens opposite the front of the cottage are communal grounds and used by other residents, including children, within the cul-de-sac.
With everybody's health in mind, visitors and occupants are asked to keep pets away from this area to ensure that it remains a safe and clean space to enjoy.
In addition, in order to keep all the gardens around the cottage safe and hygienic, we ask guests not to allow dogs to foul on any of the grassy areas to the front and rear of the cottage.
(Should an 'accident' occur, guests should ensure all mess is cleared up immediately and disposed of properly).
Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.
About the location
BUCKDEN
Kettlewell 5 miles; Hawes 12 miles.
Nestling at the foot of Buckden Pike, near the head of Upper Wharfedale, this idyllic village makes the perfect place from which to explore the wonderful scenery and pretty villages of this magnificent Dale. Much of Upper Wharfedale is National Trust owned – an indication of the beauty of its classic countryside, with dry-stone walls and barns, important flower-rich hay meadows and valleyside woodland. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best walking areas in the Dales with The Dales Way passing nearby. The village itself comprises a cluster of stone-built cottages and houses with a traditional green at its centre. A perfect location for a holiday!
