  • "Lovely cottage that was less than a 10 min drive to Penrith and Pooley Bridge."

Very quiet and peaceful surroundings and a perfect place to rest after a day in the Lake District. My children loved the horse in the field next to rear garden and the cows/sheep in field opposite the property.

All facilities were excellent and had daily visits from DJ the owners horse quite a character.

  • "This is a stunning cottage, spacious, clean and well equiped."

We had a lovely stay here. The owners are fabulous, very friendly and helpful. The property is close to Penrith and only a 30 minute drive to Ullswater etc. There is a lovely patio outside where we were joined at breakfast by DJ the horse who is very friendly. Highly recommended and would definitely stay here again. Thanks for a wonderful break.

  • "Clean and extremely comfortable, loved the space!"

Beautifully warm without having to faff with heating like so many holiday lets ( Only drawback to this was there was no alternative to the thick duvets which got too hot, but this is not specific just to this cottage) Friendly and approachable owner, and ideally situated for exploring either the Lake District or the North Pennines and the beautiful Eden Valley.

Suitable for families and or couples. Our 9 month old enjoyed his stay. The kitchen is well equipped and supermarkets are located close by. There are nice farm shops and bakeries in the near by towns and villages. Would definitely return and recommend to family and friends.

It has absolutely everything you could need. Close to motorway so easy access to everywhere. Julie the owner was kind and friendly. We’ll be back to stay again soon.

  • "This is a brilliant place close enough to Penrith, the train station, Ullswater, the pennines and hadrians wall but still feels like you are in the middle of nowhere."

There is a caravan park next door so you could be lucky enough to catch the ice cream van. It's a working farm so there are lots of animals around and even a horse (dj) outside the garden... So bring carrots. It holds 6 people comfortably but just be aware that there is only one toilet/bathroom so mornings will need to be well planned. The owners were wonderful and made us feel really welcome.

  • "We spent couple of days at the farm cottage."

We really liked the warm welcome, the fact that we felt like home. We will recommend this place. Our 2 year old granddaughter loved to see the horse and the cows. Very family orientated. We used the cottage to explore the Lake District (by car).

The cottage is very spacious and comfortable and is in a great spot to visit the lakes. Julie is an absolutely amazing host; ensuring we had everything we needed and even taking our daughter out to the fields to introduce her to the sheep. We couldn’t have asked for more.

. very special place as you’re completely private, no other people renting near you, which is hard to get!.. you leave relaxed and revived. Special mention to Black Beauty who lives out the back! What a beautiful horesey.

  • "The accommodation was spacious and warm."

However the tv did not have subtitles and as one of our party was deaf did cause a problem. It did spoil her evenings. Also a full size ironing board and proper iron should be provided as a washing machine was.

  • "We had a fantastic experience at Woodhead Farm Cottage!"

The cottage was immaculately clean upon arrival, lovely and warm, and nice and spacious for 6 people. There was plenty tableware and cookware, and lots of storage space in the kitchen and bedrooms. We really didn't have many complaints - the only slight problems were that the fridge is quite small for 6 people, and the shared bathroom was also a little difficult. The gas fire in the living room created a lovely atmosphere, but made some strange noises when it was windy! Julie dropped in to say hi and was really friendly and helpful. She let us know about local walks and attractions and how to get there, and showed some of our group the animals on her working farm. Although the cottage is attached to the family home, we really didn't notice that there were other people nearby as it felt really private and peaceful. I would definitely recommend Woodhead Farm Cottage to other groups or a family.

The property

A pretty sandstone cottage set amidst the abounding countryside in the small village of Catterlen.

A cosiness welcomes you and your family and friends into the cottage through the utility with plenty of space to hang your coats and store your boots, which then leads through to the open-plan kitchen; well-appointed to ensure you have everything you need to prepare and cook a hearty meal.

Walking from the kitchen leads you through a lovely hallway with a characterful window and exposed wooden beam resting over, dating back to when the property once housed the farm horses.

The hallway takes you into the sitting room which hosts a formal dining table for you to enjoy evening pleasantries in style.

Relax on the luxurious sofas that crowd around the gas fire, where you can exchange stories and plan for the days ahead or simply enjoy a good film together.

Step out from the kitchen into the delightful courtyard which is bordered by beautiful sandstone of vivid shades, taken over by nature to bring bursts of inviting colour.

Breathe in the cool air as you feel the gravel beneath your feet; you will be overjoyed by the verdant pastures surrounding the cottage, simply take a seat on the patio and soak it all up.

As the last of the day's sun begins to fade over the rolling landscape of the Cumbrian countryside, find yourselves a place to rest your head with three lovely bedrooms to choose from upstairs.

Head to Penrith of an evening where you can enjoy a nice meal at one of its excellent pubs or restaurants.

During the day, the sandstone buildings hide some intriguing yards, lanes and alleyways, with a myriad of attractive gardens and shops to explore.

Penrith also offers a museum and Millennium Trails for those historians among you.

The bustling town of Keswick, Brougham Castle, Long Meg and her daughters and the city of Carlisle are all within short distance.
