Description

Harbourside House is in a little known location on the Southwest coast of

Cumbria on the outskirts of the Lake District National Park. The house is

one of a row of terraced cottages overlooking the River Lazy as it joins

the sea and has been totally refurbished including the addition of a first

floor conservatory so the changing view can be enjoyed whatever the

weather. It is a place to relax, walk from, or use as a base for exploring

the coastal or mountainous areas with it's activities and views to suit all.

The house is on three levels with bedrooms on ground and top floors. The middle floor is totally open plan living with conservatory, lounge, dining area and kitchen. The kitchen area has a large table top combo oven and a second small microwave oven. In the draws you will find a slow cooker (great for days out) and a halogen oven option ! Whilst refurbishing we took the opportunity of further insulating the walls making the gas central heating very efficient so you can keep really cosy when it's cold outside making it suitable for year round breaks. The village has a convenience store, post office, cash point, pubs and a

fish and chip shop and a very popular cafe by the beach. In the Marina

there is a bar and waterski facility and a walk further on and up there is

a new bar and pizzaria with good views. Most of the Marina is now a RSPB bird reserve and Hodbarrow Nature reserve and makes a lovely walk. Millom is a town just over 1 mile away with a supermarket, banks, fuel station, a museum and cafes, restaurants and take-aways. Walking from the house, it is just 5 minutes to the sand dunes and sandy beach which is part of the long distance Cumbrian Way path. Just 30-40 minutes drive will take you the mountains of the Lake District or to

Muncaster Castle with its Birds of Prey Centre or to Ravensglass for the

stunning steam train trip to Boot. The whole of the Lake District is

waiting to be explored.

Lovely cottage in fantastic location.

Just some maintenance issues, particularly door onto the dock which was very insecure. Cottage could do with a freshen up.

We had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay.

The cottage was extremely well equipped, the beds were comfortable, and it had everything we needed—very much a home from home. There were a few signs of general wear and tear, as you would expect with holiday accommodation, but nothing that spoiled our stay. We raised a couple of minor issues with the property manager, who responded immediately and dealt with them promptly. The views from the cottage are absolutely stunning, and it makes an excellent base for exploring the area. Coniston is beautiful and well worth visiting, although sadly Bluebird was not on display at the museum during our visit. We can also highly recommend Ulverston, which is a lovely little town with lots of interesting and quirky independent shops. We found Whitehaven rather disappointing, however—it felt quite tired and run-down and, for us, wasn’t worth the hour-long journey. For anyone staying with a dog, Silecroft Beach is a must. It’s only a short drive from Haverigg, has easy access and plenty of space for dogs to run. The excellent Silecroft Beach Café is an added bonus. Overall, we had a really lovely stay and would happily return to both the cottage and this beautiful part of Cumbria.

We really enjoyed our stay at Harbourside Cottage.

The setting is beautiful as it overlooks the estuary and has walks and bridleways right on the door step. The cottage has been well thought out with an excellent layout of 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor, a open plan living, dining kitchen and conservatory on the second floor and a bedroom with en-suite on the top floor. This worked perfectly for us as a family of 6 with a dog. The beds were very comfortable with great pillows and the overall style was nice with a coastal theme. The cottage is very well equipped for a comfortable stay with games, walking books, umbrellas and everything you could need in a kitchen. The wine and biscuits were a nice touch. There is plenty of parking and lots to do. The cottage was clean enough and well maintained but wasn't spotless (if you really looked closely under furniture etc). It surpassed all expectations for the price paid though so I think it was excellent value for money. We would definitely return and would love to visit the beautiful unspoilt beaches again.
