  • "Lovely cottage in perfect location."

Complete lack of information on how everything worked. TV never worked. Internet worked occasionally but was useless even when it did. Double bed accessible with difficulty from one side only. Dangerous steps inside with no edge markings or hand rails. 79 year old fell down these and was extremely fortunate not to be seriously injured. Steps outside with no edge markings. Generally untidy outside with weed infested paths.

  • "A great cottage - worked perfectly for the two of us (and would likely have worked well had we brought our two kids as well)."

Excellent base for exploring the countryside, walking the wall and visiting the local historical sites. Kitchen was well equipped for cooking, and the patio was a delightful place to dine and chat with the neighboring cows that seemed curious about us.

  • "We absolutely loved our week at Humbleton Cottage."

The remote location was fantastic, beautiful rolling countryside and the constant entertainment of Sebastian (the bull in the field next door) and his band of admiring cows! The cottage couldn't be more comfortable and ensured that rain or shine, we always had a lovely relaxing option...whether that be exploring the surrounding countryside or watching the weather roll by, from the comfort of the cottage. We also managed to get the cuckoo clock chiming, sometimes even on time!! Many thanks to our hosts that ensured that everything was taken care of and left a lovely bottle of prosecco upon arrival. Thanks again - The Sayer family.

  • "We have just revisited 11 - 18 Mar 2023 and wanted to submit a review (having not completed one back in November)."

We’ve had a truly lovely break at Humbleton Cottage. It is situated in a dream location with the sounds and sights of Curlews and Lapwings within yards. We saw deer and also a few sightings of a Kestrel. The cottage is really cosy and comfortable with amazing views over the moor and the valley. Relaxation here is not difficult as it’s so peaceful and secluded - we loved it. We were also fortunate to have one clear night during our stay and the view of the stars is staggering. On arrival, the hosts were just about to leave and greeted us - what a lovely couple. Thank you David and Angela - we hope to return.

The cottage itself is glorious! So peaceful, quiet and cosy - I never want to leave it! I would be quite happy to just hunker down and spend the whole week there! The owners, David and Amanda, are lovely and make you feel so welcome, I can't thank them enough for the wonderful times I have spent there

Thank you for them very nice kind words Kind regards David and Angela Property Owner

  • "This is a delightful cottage."

The views all around are stunning. The owner and caretaker could not be more helpful and friendly. There are comments in other reviews about the electric being solar. This system is quite sophisticated with batteries and a generator to back it up. We had no problems with it at all and felt rather smug to have been there 2 weeks using entirely renewable electricity! Be aware that the postcode in a satnav takes you a few hundred yards further down the road if coming from Hexham. The entrance is just opposite a very tall chimney of a disused mine.

Wonderful views and wildlife. Nice to see personal items ie crockery etc…. Such a change from the usual IKEA items! We did find the sofa a little uncomfortable however after a few wines we weren’t bothered at all! Nice clean bedding and towels, good quality too. We will definitely return!

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Humbleton Cottage."

We like an isolated location and this fitted the bill perfectly. Surrounded by fields and with wide reaching views, you can see the line of Hadrians Wall on a clear day. We also saw sheep and cows a plenty right outside, also deer and hares on occasion. The cottage is very clean and and well equipped. It should however be noted that the listing stated there is a freezer, there isn’t, just a small ice box in the fridge, this was a serious inconvenience for us, if I had known I would have planned differently. The hob is gas and not electric as listed. Also we were not made aware that the property does not have mains power, it is off grid for electricity and relies on Solar power. If there is a problem there is a back up generator which the very helpful local caretaker Marc is happy to run. The system works well. Hexham is about 10 to 15 minutes drive with all the shopping facilities you might need and we found the location very convenient for seeing a lot of Northumberland and Cumbria. We even managed a boat trip from Seahouses to the Farne Islands which was well worth doing. We stayed for two weeks and certainly recommend the cottage but suggest the listing information is corrected for future guests.

  • "Just Stunning!"

The Cottage is beautifully presented and is clean and cosy with some unique touches. Perfect for those that want a rural retreat that is very dog friendly and is also an excellent location for exploring Northumberland. Highlights for us were Ashgill Force, the antique shop in Brampton and a day trip to Bamburgh. Special thanks to Marc and David who were very welcoming and incredibly helpful.

Plenty of walking and historical points of interest nearby. Overall, a peaceful “away from it all” break, and the dog loved it too. We will be back!

  • "Lovely cottage if not a little too cluttered with furniture and wonderful views."

However, the kitchen cupboards and door compartments of the fridge were dirty. There was no room in the kitchen cupboards for our own food, luckily we eat out so didn’t need the space. After showering for a couple of days we noticed the water was not draining, my partner took the drainage plug out of the shower and it was covered with hair, it hadn’t been cleaned for weeks. The inside of the shower was also dirty and the outer edges on the outside. There was a cup mark on the living room windowsill and dirty marks on the bedroom floor. The cottage was advertised as having WiFi but it didn’t. I had received a message from Sykes in April informing there was no WiFi but then I received an email stating it had been rectified and there was WiFi. I contacted the owner on arrival asking for the WiFi password and was informed that Sykes should have informed me that there was no WiFi. The TV didn’t work as we couldn’t receive a signal despite the owner stating that it did work, we tried several times turning the sky box off and on. The fact there was no TV wouldn’t have bothered us as we really only wanted it for the news and weather reports. It would have been nice to have a decent radio to listen to and some board games to play, We would have taken these things if we would have known prior to going. I was also surprised to see someone’s boots on the boot rack. Despite all of these complaint the beds were comfortable and clean, however if you were any bigger than a size 10 you would have difficulty fitting round one side of the bed in main bedroom and therefore my partner had to sleep in the second bedroom. Plenty of soft white fluffy towels but not very absorbent.

  • "Lovely location and high quality accommodation."

Wifi was not available and TV reception was poor so listing was not quite accurate. As others have mentioned not having curtains does mean very early waking in summer mornings. We had an electricity problem on our last evening but got a 3 person response within 20 minutes. high quality caretaking and owner offered a free weekend to compensate for the inconvenience. Impressive response.

  • "We understood the cottage would have Wi-fi."

Although we had a communication saying that the provider had changed or was in the process of changing but that was not the case. We always find Wi-fi useful to plan our touring when on holiday - however that did not stop us having a lovely time. It was an unusual cottage with a lot of planning gone into making it quite special. We felt that curtains in the bedroom would have been helpful - however it did give us lovely views of the stars at night - no light pollution there. The views from the cottage were second to none. The 'caretaker' was very prompt at sorting out a few little hitches. A truly beautiful part of the country, lots of wild life and lovely people.
