"Nice property, stairs quite tight for getting luggage up and down and would say would not suit the more elderly."
Good location as a base for all the lakes but not a place if you do not have transport. Tight entrance to the property if you have a large vehicle. We brought all we needed and took heed from previous feedback but there was everything we needed. Short stay but enjoyed our visit.

"Lovely quaint little cottage."
Clean and tidy and a full stocked kitchen of utensils, which is unusual in the places we have stayed before. The cottage felt homely and we enjoyed our stay. My only small negative is that we felt a 9am check out was too early. It felt a bit of a rush getting sorted and packed to be out for that time. Oh and the hill to the pub

"Carbon monoxide alarm constantly beeping as it required replacement- it finished up under cushions on a chair in the lobby to deaden the noise."
One lamp needed a new bulb fitting. Few cobwebs about - bathroom living room and kitchen, there was even some in the cooker door!? Apart from that the decking could do with a good power wash and then staining and varnishing to improve its appearance. The place itself is ok but slightly odd configuration with the bedroom up on the top floor and the bathroom on the middle floor. Depends what you are used to I suppose.

"We had a great few days."
Our daughters enjoyed their first experience like this. Lindale was a good location for what we were doing. Great kitchen facilities. Grater could be added - we brought our own. Enjoyed meal times. We couldn't get access to Netflix. Followed instructions in folder. Hdmi lead and signal connection not working to watch the DVDs in offer. Not major issue. We watched movie at night on our laptop. Perhaps a better Smart TV needed. Other things to do though. Would have been nice to have some planting on balcony and courtyard to sit out next to. Pillows weren't completely comfortable and wife got a sore neck on last night. Overall, nice cosy feel. Good hot water available, and great ha ING dishwasher with tablets provided.
-
"Nice property overall."
A bit of a shame that there was no hand soap provided in the bathroom. Also, in my opinion, the pillows either need replacing or at least having the option of a couple of feather pillows. Otherwise, it was a cool and quirky property, unusually split across 3 floors, in a great location. The beds were really comfy, the living area very cosy and the kitchen very spacious. We really enjoyed the stay.

"The property is set in a lovely private courtyard with parking outside."
It is a very comfortable property with everything you need for a holiday stay. I enjoyed using the balcony outside the lounge on the first floor, I was so lucky with the hot weather and sat sipping a nice cold drink in the lovely sun trap. The bedrooms are on the second floor which was ok for me as I am quite fit but the morning cuppa in bed means carrying it up two flights of stairs. The lock on the front door and putting the keys back in the key safe were a bit fiddly. We were a bit worried when we tried to lock up on the first day going out but I managed to 'wiggle' the key to lock the door. Mabe change the lock ? All in all a great place to stay , situated perfectly for travelling around the lakes, the bus stop is just outside the grounds of the property and the fares are still £2 a trip. Worth doing to save on parking fees which are pricey in the Lake District.

"The Hayloft is ideal for a couple or small family."
Very comfortable and well maintained. Close to all amenities and places of interest. Wouldn't hesitate to book another break/holiday there.
-
"It seems like bread and biscuits, we pay more and get less."
The 5 pm entry and 9am exit is so greedy. Last (and most) hires have been 3 pm entry and 10am exit. This is 2nd stay in Lindale, last cottage was less luxurious but we were not limited to one toilet roll and we had soap, washing up liquid and dish cloths. We also gained entry at 3 pm and left at 10am. The actual property was very nice and pleasant to be in. The description of the Royal Oak being a "gastro pub" needs removing. It's under offer. The food is microwaved, tinned or frozen bought in a supermarket. Terrible! (2 years ago we highly recommended it).

"Please pass on our thanks to your team and the owners of the property."
We had a lovely spring break in the very clean and well appointed property. This is our second visit to the Hayloft.
-
"The property was very much as described."
It was warm and comfortable, very well equipped. We enjoyed being there. The only drawback was that it felt a little closed in, especially on the ground floor.
-
"We had a lovely holiday close to many places to visit."
The Hayloft was perfect well maintained, very clean with everything needed.
-
"Good instructions ahead of visit."
Property easy to find. Parking the car was a little tight, but we managed it! Kitchen had everything we needed. Lounge was cosy. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was spacious. Only couple of things if we were being picky was from a cosmetic perspective, bathroom grouting was dirty and carpet on stairs is worn. We would visit again.

"There is an infestation of clothes/keratin eating moths and that needs to be sorted although they have now reached the insect stage in their life cycle."
....so they have 'flown' Areas behind doors and other corners need a better cleaning regime as does the entrance outside the front door. The inner rubber hose of the shower hose will perish in the near future because a lot of stress is placed upon it by the way in which it fits on the 'holster' very close to the ceiling . Was there a dishcloth? ...I didn't see one but that was no problem. These comments not withstanding,- I enjoyed my stay there.

"This has the potential to be a very good property but isn’t due too the very poor cleanliness!"
! I found a substantial amount of black mould on the tiles around the bath, soap scum around the plug hole and taps on the sink, also stains around the rim of the toilet. This resulted in me having to purchase cleaning products and spend a few hours cleaning!! I also managed to write my initials in the dust on the bedroom window sill and the room smelt very damp. The owners have put in everything that you could need for an enjoyable stay but sadly I felt very let down!

"This was a lovely place."
Clean, well equipped and cosy. We went in warm weather so it was perfect. Lots to do nearby and a beautifully presented cottage. I would highly recommend it.
-
"Comfortable accommodation in quiet pretty little village in south Lakeland - close to Cartmel and Grange over Sands."
Accommodation was clean and smart and beds were comfortable (mattress was firm which was good for back). All appliances were in good working order with instructions provided. Very happy with my stay and would return again.
-
"We needed a good break and the Hayloft allowed us to do that."
This is our second stay near Grange Over Sands, its very quiet, we love it. Certainly would recommend the Hayloft.
-
"The location was perfect for us."
A short drive into Grange over Sands and access to lots to do within a 30 minuite drive around Lake Windermere. On the listing it details 9am check out and 5pm check in times due to enhanced cleaning. This wasnt as evident as it should have been at the cottage. Crumbs over the sofa when we arrived, hoovering in the living room didn't seem to have been done. Leaves in entrance that we had to keep picking up from the door mat when we opened the door. Only small things but if you force people to check in or out early for this reason and advertise it, guests expect to see evidence of it, or let them check in/out earlier.
-
"We were notified just as we were about to leave for the Lake District that we weren't going to be able to get access to the cottage until after 6 pm (instead of 5 pm) due to labour availability for cleaning."
It seems unlikely this was only happening for the first time that morning and it would certainly have helped us to know earlier (like the previous day) - not sure how much of this lack of information flow was down to Sykes and how much to the cleaning company though. Also, the cleaners had taken the key away with them, so we ended up not getting into the cottage until after 7.15. That was any plans for our first evening scuppered. The one other downside was that the hobs on the cooker did not work, even when we tried the 'fix' given in the instructions file. Other than those things, the cottage was a great place to be for a week - breakfast and afternoon tea on the balcony were particular highlights (helped by great weather, of course!)
-
"The Hayloft is a lovely cottage and very well equipped."
Car parking space was very acceptable.
-
"Was really easy to find."
Very clean, really comfortable,& had everything we needed for the week. Spacious kitchen & bathroom.

"The week before we were due to arrive at the Hayloft I read some of the reviews left by previous visitors one mentioned a stained mattress."
I called Sykes to voice my concerns and was assured by the young lady I spoke to that the owners would be aware of any comments left in a review and hopefully they would address any problems. When we got into the cottage we checked the mattress and it was still stained we thought we would turn the mattress over and use the other side but that was also stained. There are no mattress protectors on any of the beds so we ended up having to go and buy a mattress protector to safe guard ourselves against the stains on the bed. In the information sent by Sykes it informs you that you cannot now because of covid enter the property until later 5pm and leave by 9am (there is no reduction in price for less time in the property). We thought as we were traveling quite a distance we would first find the cottage & then go and sight see & stock up with food, we arrived at the cottage at 11.45am to see the cleaners leaving so we could have gone in at the original time of 3pm. When we returned back to the cottage and being advised that the cleaning takes longer the work tops in the kitchen needed wiping down and during the course of the week we found a chocolate wrapper under one of the chairs in the living room. We had bought some frozen food when we went to get our shopping and then spent about 20mins trying to get the built in freezer to work. It was broken so a note on the freezer would have been appreciated. There is a tiny freezer at the back of the kitchen. There is a parking spot allocated to the property which is ideal for a smaller car but we have an estate car and found the space a bit of a squeeze so had to park in the visitors space. The bin day is on a Monday not as stated in the information pack which states it is on a Wednesday. In the listing for the property it mentions a games room we never did find the games room. Apart from the above the property is nicely appointed and a comfortable place to stay just a shame that other things let it down.
-
"We asked for the beds not to be made because we were bringing our own bedding, but this didn’t happen."
There were no mattress protectors and when we stripped the double bed there was a very large stain on the mattress. The wardrobe door handle came off in my hand. The freezer wasn’t working when we got there so the frozen ready meals we had brought had to be put in the fridge and eaten within a couple of days or thrown away. However this problem was fixed by the owner within a couple of days. The photos on the website made the twin room look larger than it actually was, only really big enough for one adult or two children. No mention on the website of the absence of a mobile phone signal on the site or within at least 1/2 a mile. But the cottage was comfortable and well equipped.
-
"The cottage was lovely - the main gripes Were the listing didn’t clear mention the 3 floors (I had a member of my party that struggled at times) and the check out at 9 for Covid cleaning when the cottage was on the whole but I still had to focus on a couple of spots particularly the cooker hood Etc."
But I don’t want the to distract from the lovely cottage and experience we had catching up with old friends

"Our arrival and departure time was amended to permit extra time for cleaning but the property was not cleaned to normal standards, led alone COVID standards!"
! The property smelt musty, was dusty and cobwebs everywhere. There was no trace of smell of bleach or any cleaning products and we entered the property 30seconds after the cleaning company left. Extremely disappointing!! I spent 30 minutes cleaning the property myself and we felt the need to put all the crockery in the dishwasher before we used it as not confident of the cleanliness of the place. Also, we were left with one black bin bag to last us 7 days (no recycling) and the bath towels were the size of postage stamps. The first thing we did after cleaning the property ourselves was go out to buy air freshener. The balcony picture is misleading, as it looks out over an empty courtyard and roofed building used to park cars and store rubbish. Not an attractive view for a drink!! Disappointing stay!!
-
"The middle floor balcony was very useful as a dining area and for evening drinks."
As the weather was so warm it was also good to have the option of the courtyard table which was in the shade!
-
"The cottage was really lovely, loved the little stream that ran through!"
It had pretty much everything we needed for the week (including an iron and washer/dryer - Sykes couldn’t confirm this when I enquired) and was in a great location for where we wanted to visit. It was very quiet, couldn’t hear any traffic even though there’s a road right behind the house. The main bedroom is a really good size, we took a travel cot for our little one and there was still so much room. The other bedroom is quite small but we just used this for keeping clothes etc so no bother to us. The WiFi was also really quick! We definitely needed this as we couldn’t get a signal. There were loads of books, games, dvds and jigsaws if you wanted these. We had a fabulous time and would definitely recommend this place to others. The only downside to the week was the cleaning company. They didn’t do a great job but this is absolutely no reflection on Sykes or the owners. The floors looked like we had already been in for a week the day we got there and the fridge had loads of bits in so clearly hadn’t been cleaned. Maybe the owners might want to speak to the company? But the main things like the bedding, towels, toilet, shower etc had all been cleaned to a great standard :).

"Bad communication!"
Due to the covid-regulations in our and your country we tried getting in touch to amend this booking. Unfortunately, we never got an answer to this request. While we acknowledge that these are challenging times for everyone, we regret that there was no communication whatsoever regarding our request. Needless to say that under these circumstances we will not be making new bookings with Sykes cottages or this cottage in the future.

"Brilliant place to stay ,comfortable and warm with everything needed to make a great self catering holiday so enjoyable."
Attention to detail in the property and cleanliness was excellent .
-
"The staircase and landing floor boards are very creeky, but apart from that a very nice place to stay for a few days."
-
"Disappointed that the key to the property wasn’t in the key box on arrival."
I rang your office and was on hold for over minutes before getting through to someone. I was paying for that call and being told Fridays are busy hence the delay in getting to speak to someone wasn’t helpful. The key problem was resolved.
-
"It was a great location for us personally, a family member in Cark, more family in Barrow in Furness, the Lake District on the doorstep, 20 minutes to Kendal where there is great shopping, and the village itself was unspoilt and lovely to walk around daily, lots of good photo ops, and the locals were friendly!"
! Worth the journey from Canada!
-
"There were a couple of things that I would like to suggest."
A mirror in the second bedroom would be helpful as it is just as likely to be used by adults as children and easier access to a plug for hair dryer. Also a bin for tissues etc would be useful in both bedrooms. We had our 6 year old grandson with us for the first weekend and I felt that the courtyard was not really a suitable area for him to play safely outside on his own. While he was playing in the sitting room he managed to 'loose' one of his toys under the sofa and whilst retrieving it I discovered that it had not been cleaned under there for some time. Also the outside bin was overflowing and a plastic bag of rubbish left next to it. We also had to leave our rubbish out. I did report this to the cleaning company but there was nothing done despite assurances that it would be sorted. However we did enjoy our holiday in this charming and well appointed holiday home.

Cottage was in a great position for visiting The Lakes and surrounding areas Very quiet location Kitchen rolls, toilet rolls, washing up liquid supplied Hairdryer also supplied

"The cottage was exactly as described."
It was a beautiful place to stay, with everything that we could possibly need for our holiday. The facilities within the cottage exceeded our expectations, the decor was very tasteful, and it was spotlessly clean. It’s location was great, with a small town (for shops/pubs/restaurants/etc) a 5 minute drive away, and Lake Windermere only 10/15 minutes away. We can’t recommend this property enough!
-
"The toilet seat in the bathroom was broken and the hot water in the bathroom just stopped working from time to time."
Apart from this the apartment was excellent.
-
"Very dirty house :("
-
"A well appointed and maintained cottage with a well equipped kitchen."
The balcony very nice to sit on with a drink and enjoy the last of the days sun. Village shop only a short walk and supermarket a five minute drive.
-
"We found the Hayloft to be cosy, comfortable, very clean and with everything that was needed for the week that we stayed there."
The table and chairs on the raised deck are a nice touch too. Grange over Sands is only a couple of miles away and is a lovely place to visit with ample food shopping and take away venues if needed. We would certainly stay at the Hayloft again and would likewise recommend it to friends, it’s a lovely place to use as a base to explore the lakes.
-
"We found the 2 spiral stairs a bit of a challenge, anyone with a walking problem should be notified about this , also the cold basin tap in the bathroom is still not turning off and dripping the last people reviewed this ,apart from that everything good ."
Thank you for your comments and I am sorry that there was an issue with the tap; this has since been fixed. There is a turn in the stairs (not spiral) as shown in the photographs but I am sorry you found these difficult. I am glad you enjoyed your stay otherwise. Property Owner

"We loved our stay at hayloft cottage."
We were so happy that it was really clean. Only minor issue we had 1.. Extractor fan was dripping with fat 2.cold tap in bathroom very stiff and was dripping constantly I'm sure these can be rectified, other than that everything was smooth
Thank you for your feedback and making us aware of the issues you have mentioned. These have since been full addressed. I am glad you enjoyed your stay otherwise. Property Owner

-
"The Hayloft is a superb cottage, beautifully appointed in a perfect location."
We felt very at home and enjoyed our stay very much, we would definitely recommend and book again. Sykes Maintenance Team for the South Lakeland Area were extremely helpful and very efficient at rectifying a problem with the central heating boiler. Thank you very much for another excellent holiday in one of your beautiful cottages.
