"We had the most beautiful stay at Larch Cottage, from the second we got there we didn’t want to leave."
Thank you for a lovely stay. x
-
"A gem of a cottage with a lovely homely feel, we truly relaxed here !"
Secluded and private with woodland walks and the lake shore just across the road, but close enough to Hawkshead for easy access to pubs and shops.
-
"Larch Cottage is perfect in every way."
We had a wonderful week here, with the both the cottage and garden lovely. Location wise it is set on the side of Esthwaite Water, so it is quite secluded but only a mile or so from the village of Hawkshead, and within range of plenty of walking options. We will most definitely return here!
-
"Beautiful cottage amazing garden and location!"
Great for family and dogs! Ideal to walk to Hawkshead
-
"This review is along the same lines as our last review of Larch Cottage back in March - If you need a peaceful, comfortable 'bolt hole' to retreat to after a long day out, well, BOOK IT !"

"It would have been nice to have been advised in advance that you would need to buy logs for wood burners before or even have the option to pay extra for a supply as one facility we looked for when choosing a property."
The cottage was wonderful and would certainly recommend and return
-
"Larch Cottage was the perfect place for our short break."
It was beautifully presented, well equipped and one of the best properties i have stayed in, especially in the Lakes. I would highly recommend this property, the owners attention to detail made the stay perfect.
-
"Lovely cottage, ideal location and lots of outside space for our dogs."
The owner was super helpful with lots of information available for the area and contacted us at the commence of our stay to advise that the cottage was available earlier than arrival time etc.
-
"We cannot rate this property highly enough."
From the moment you drive through the gates to entering the cottage it was so welcoming. The cottage was beautiful. Lots of lovely thoughtful touches throughout (including wood for the wood burners and ice in the freezer) and a welcome basket with tea and coffee and little goodies which was very welcome after a long journey. There were family games to play, toys for the doggy and a place for your wellies! The kitchen had everything you needed including cooking utensils, pots and pans, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer and an air fryer. There was also a hair dryer, towels and ironing board etc. It was very clean. Lovely swing outside and lovely views of the lake. We will definitely be coming back! It was like a home from home. Thank you.
-
"Our stay was incredible!"
It was great for exploring but the cottage itself provided us much needed down time surrounded by nature. Just an amazing cottage in a superb location. Will be back for sure.

"We had a lovely week at Larch Cottage."
It had everything we needed and is in a great location for some very scenic walks. It is just over the road from Esthwaite Water which our dog enjoyed very much. The garden is lovely and the garden games provided by the owner were very welcome. It is in a peaceful setting and we found it very relaxing. We would love to visit again.

"A lovely cottage embedded in surrounding woodland giving it the benefit of seclusion but also ideally located to explore the Lake District."
We treasured the peace and quiet of the property as well as the log fireplaces that were super relaxing after a long day's walk. The owner was friendly and supportive and we appreciated all her efforts to make our stay comfortable and memorable. A great place to unwind!
Wonderful to hear that you were able to enjoy the setting at Larch Cottage & explore during your stay in the Lakes. Whatever the time of year & whatever the weather I agree that after a busy day's walking there is nothing better than lighting both wood burning stoves to put up your feet & relax. Hope to welcome you back Kate Property Owner

"What a cottage, what a host, what a stay!"
Our jaws hit the floor when we first saw inside Larch cottage and its surroundings! Kate couldn’t be a kinder, more approachable host- providing both a warm and welcoming ‘welcome’ to the cottage with her hamper and also being very quick and supportive when we needed anything! Don’t hesitate- one of the best places we’ve stayed before!

"Absolutely amazing stay at larch cottage."
We all loved every minute and will definitely be rebooking in the future. Kate messaged us before our arrival and left a lovely welcome pack and her contact details incase we required any help with our stay. The dogs even had treats left for them which was lovely. We wanted for nothing as all was provided. I highly recommend to anyone wanted to stay in the lakes.

"We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Larch Cottage."
We especially loved the peace and quiet, the privacy and the amazing grounds and woodland. The cottage itself was extremely comfortable and cosy and it felt like home in no time at all. Extremely well situated for visiting the beautiful Lake District. Kate, the owner was absolutely lovely, so friendly and helpful via messaging. Although we did not meet her or need her for anything, we just know that she would have helped us if we did. Many thanks Annabell
Ahhh, thank you for your kind words Annabell. As Larch Cottage used to be our family home, until we outgrew it, & we love to be able to share it as a "home from home" Thank you for staying - looking forward to welcome you back again soon Property Owner

"The perfect place to stay in the Lakes."
The cottage is absolutely brilliant, and the surroundings are amazing. Imagine having your own woodland. You don't have to here ... you just have one! complete with camp fire. The kitchen dining room is the heart of the cottage, with everything you need including a fantastic log burner to keep you cozy on those cold February nights. We loved our stay at Larch cottage, and we will be back again! Thanks Kate for being such a brilliant host and sharing this little gem in the heart of the lakes with us.

"Beautiful cottage in a lovely location with a super helpful owner."
Not far to walk to Hawkshead or Near Sawrey for a beer and bite to eat. The cottage is cosy and well equipped, has a large garden and it’s own private woodland. Esthwaite Water is right on your doorstep ideal for our dog! Couldn’t have asked for more and would highly recommend. We will definitely be returning.

"We loved Larch Cottage from the second we arrived."
The setting is outstanding and the cottage was clean, comfortable and warm. Our Golden retriever just adored the woodland, and I walked him there every morning before we went out for the day. Good boots needed as the going gets rough underfoot the further you go into the woods, but totally worth it! The lake is across the road with direct access to the water. Walks everywhere you look. Recommend How Tarn circular walk. We shall return!
Thank you so much Joan - so pleased that you enjoyed your stay & delighted to hear that you & your Golden Retriever got to explore the woodland at Larch Cottage. As there are 13 acres I hope there are still plenty of routes for you to find on your next visit! We look forward to welcoming you back Kate Property Owner

Where you’ll be staying
HAWKSHEAD
Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.
The picturesque village of Hawkshead retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year. A short distance beyond Hawkshead and towards the Windermere Ferry is the village of Near Sawrey, and “Hill Top” (now owned and run by the National Trust), home of Beatrix Potter which features many of the illustrations in her books. Newby Bridge and Lakeside are a short distance to the south and offer attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes, Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside plus the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and Haverthwaite Motor Museum. Lake windermere offers ample watersports facilities, boat tours, and there are a great many walks throughout the Lake District National Park, including those at Scafell Pike and The Old Man of Coniston, and there are many opportunities for birdwatching, mountain biking, and wild swimming.
