What guests are saying
POSITIVES - House is huge, lovely garden (could do with some weeding), ample parking and is in a nice location, which is easily accessible for the lakes and the coast.
Enough room to sleep 10 people, and lots of space. IMPROVEMENTS - The house is very dated. I appreciate it is old, but there is a lot of damp and some mould in the bedrooms. The windows are caked in cobwebs, and there was a wasp nest right outside the main bedroom window. This had been left open, so when we arrived there were wasps everywhere in the bedroom. Garden furniture was all rusted, and there were no cushions to sit on. TLC would make this a great property.
We booked the property with a certain amount of trepidation given previous recent poor reviews.
In general the house was good: spacious, well equipped and the entrance way spectacular. The cake and sweets which were left ahead of Halloween were also a very nice touch. The kitchen was well equipped ,and as a party of 8 it met our needs well. We had a really good time and the grandeur of the house really contributed. However, these points must be put in context with a few significant flaws. First was cleanliness. Most of the house was clean and tidy, but there was a hand-size patch of fungus growing in the small bedroom (off the main bedroom) skirting board. Additionally there was mould on the microwave plate. Second was the washing machine outlet pipe which was not connected. This resulted in water flooding the basement when we used it, which we had to mop up. We refitted the pipe and moved the machines to do so, but not until much of the floor was soaked. Third, the wasp issue which was well documented in reviews from the summer had not been remedied. There were a number of large wasps in the house. They were dormant / docile due to the low temperature and did not affect us, but it showed the problem persists. Finally, there was a general air and smell of damp / must, in some of the bedrooms. These let down what was a potentially excellent house. More disappointing, as the cleaning points and washing machine were easily avoidable and a consequences of attention to detail. I have pictures of each of the problems and am happy to share them with the agent if required. Please do just get in touch.
Great place Could do with a wider range of bed options and to deal with the wasp nest Otherwise it is just spectacular
