"The cabin was such a pleasure to be in over the weekend, it was homely, warm and so comfortable, though the weather was stormy the cabin made up for it, being so close to Keswick which was beautiful too, it was a lovely mini break with so much to do in the local areas."
The staff that visited on occasions when working on other cabins were friendly and helpful. We would recommend to anyone to visit and stay and look forward to planning our next visit. Thank you for the welcome gift, extra special and welcoming.
Hello, What a lovely review. You were here during storm Ashley, but then the sun did come out the next day. So pleased to hear you had such a lovely time. All the best, Kate and my team. Property Owner

"We had an absolutely fantastic time at this property, and we would definitely return."
The only issue was that we got a little impatient waiting for the wood fired hot tub to get up to temperature, but it was worth it once we were in it! Check out the viewing area, it's stunning.
Hello Mike, Thank you for the feedback and hope you’ll be able to return. We hope that our guests can slow down and relax, perhaps re-set when they come to the cabins. The fresh air, beautiful views and being surrounded by nature is some of what they provide. We try to be eco-friendly too. The wood fired hot tub fits in with our ethos and its surroundings. It does take a little bit of time, but as you said yourself, the effort is worth it. All the very best, Kate. Property Owner

"Brow Wood cabin was a fantastic place to stay."
I’ve been travelling to the Lakes for a few years and rarely stay in the same place twice - however, I will definitely be staying here again. The cabin is a great size for me and my girlfriend and is clean, comfortable, and has everything we needed. The wood fired hot tub is a great idea and the instructions are pretty simple to follow and get it up to temperature.
Hello Sam, It was fabulous to hear you had such a great time at Brow Wood. Even better that you like it so much you are going to come back. All the best, Kate and the team. Property Owner

"The cabin is clean, modern and very comfortable, with everything you could possibly need."
I absolutely loved the bed and had the best nights sleep! The cabin can get warm quite quick so we turned the heating as low as it would go. We were looking for somewhere secluded so we could take our dog and this place was perfect, although there are 3 other cabins near by, we didn't see anyone and felt like it was just us there, which is what we wanted. We had a little walk around to the nearest village where there is a pub but it didnt open until 5pm on a Tuesday (the day we went haha) and 12 every other day. The village and pub are very picturesque. We drove into Pooley bridge which is only 10 minutes away and then Keswick the following day, which is only 20 minutes away, both great locations for walks, scenery, pubs and shops. It was our first time using a fire burning hot tub, we read the book which is very helpful and we managed to get the hot tub hot and ready in 2 hours and it remained hot for quite a long time which was great! Would highly recommend this cabin if you want an escape away.
Hello Kayleigh, It sounds like you had a fantastic stay and visited lots of local places of interest. It’s particularly good to hear you enjoyed the wood-fired hot tub. It does take more effort than an electric one, but as you indicated it’s worth the effort and so much better for the environment. We really hope you can come and stay again. All the best, Kate and the team. Property Owner

"We had an absolutely wonderful stay in the Lake District."
It was our first time using the sykes accommodation and visiting the area. It was just perfect, I was worried we might need utensils etc, but everything was provided. The accommodation was so lovely, comfortable and clean and had just about everything we needed for our stay. Will definitely be coming back next year!! Thank you for a fabulous stay

"We stayed in Brow Wood cabin which looked beautifully maintained externally on the web site when we booked."
However on arrival the two well maintained cabins were not our accommodation and Brow wood cabin was situated away from these two, and the surrounding ground did not match the photos. The cabin was overgrown with waist high thistles and grass obliterating the path leading to it. Also the viewing area which looked well maintained on the website was overgrown and difficult to get to but did offer a fabulous view. The accommodation was clean and comfortable although very small with no bedroom storage which for 7 nights was inadequate for us.
Hello Jon, Although you’ve been negative, I’d like to thank you for your feedback because I think it will help other guests understand what we are doing. The cabins have an EPC A rating, you might have seen the bank of PV panels on the barn roof. Most of the heating and lighting is fuelled by the panels. The cabins are covered in locally sourced larch wood and we’ve adopted various other eco-friendly actions. The cabins are next to a designated ancient woodland. We have revived the wood by thinning it and clearing it to some degree, but have otherwise left it to regenerate itself. It does look messy to some, but it’s better for the wildlife. There are areas in the quadrangle and by 2 of the newer cabins which are mown lawn. However we have kept this to an absolute minimum. Wildlife doesn’t like mown grass so much. The rest of the grassy areas we have left to nature to regenerate and re-wild. They are strimmed twice a year., again this is to encourage regeneration. The wild flowers are just starting to come back which is great to see. Again some people think nettles are bad, but for example some butterflies love nettles. We are sorry you didn’t like our approach, but we like to think you come to Highgate Cabins to rest and relax in a lovely, comfortable cabin, but also to be nestled in nature. It’s appreciated that’s not for everyone but judging by the 5 star reviews on our website, it’s what our guests want. We can understand that because you didn’t book direct you won’t have seen the information on our website or in the guest directory. Apologies for the long response. We hope you find something that suits you better next time. All the best, Kate and the team. Property Owner

About the location
ULLSWATER
The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
Please note, charging of electric vehicles is not permitted in this lodge. Sorry No hot tub towels provided. The nearest charging point can be found at Booths Supermarket or Morrisons in Penrith, roughly a 10 minute drive.
