The 3 storey house in Gargrave is beautifully furnished.
Furnishings and decoration were stunning. Kitchen looked brand new and was well stocked with everything we needed. Beds were supersized and super comfy. Absolutely no complaints in that regard. The three-storey house in Gargrave is beautifully furnished. The furnishings and decoration were stunning. The kitchen looked brand new and was well stocked with everything we needed. The beds were super-sized and extremely comfortable. Absolutely no complaints in that regard. However, the property is called Lock View, and some of the photographs show the lock and canal from the balconies. There is no view of the lock, and the canal view is limited due to overgrown trees and vegetation. We understand that the owners may not own the vegetation, but we feel the restricted view should be reflected more clearly in the property description. As avid canal boaters, we only booked this property because of the title and the photographs. We could hear the lock being operated and the chatter of the boaters but could not see them, which was a great disappointment. Had we known this in advance, we would not have booked the property. There is a reasonable view of the canal, although not the lock, from the top-floor bedroom, but this is not where guests would typically spend most of their time.
We had a lovely stay overall and there was a lot to like about this property.
The top floor bedroom is a lovely room and the property would work well for two able bodied couples. The kitchen was also very well equipped with plenty of utensils and everything we needed for cooking. The main downside for us was that the property is spread over three floors. The lounge, dining area and kitchen are all on the middle floor, but there is no bathroom on that level. We were staying with elderly parents, one of whom is waiting for a hip replacement, so having to go up or down a flight of stairs every time they needed the bathroom was quite difficult. We feel this should be made much clearer in the description, as it is not suitable for anyone with limited mobility and could also be challenging for families with younger children. The hot tub could also do with a bit of attention. The cover was held together with cable ties and there were pieces of it floating in the water. It wasn’t anything major, but it didn’t feel as clean or inviting as it could have. The bushes around the property also need trimming back, as they have become quite overgrown and block what would otherwise be lovely views over the canal and lock. Despite these points, we enjoyed our stay and with a few improvements it would be an even better place to visit.
We loved our stay but with a few little niggles.
We didn't realise that we would be expected to provide toilet rolls. We thought, like sheets and towels, these would be included. We were told that we should buy our own but were initially supplied with one per toilet and an extra one as well. We did buy some extra and left the surplus for the next guests. There was no toilet roll holder. There was no dish cloth. We had to do a little pruning of the weeds over the fence to get to all parts of the patio. The outdoor cleaning could have perhaps been better. The dimmer switches everywhere were a bit of a 'faff' but we managed.
