  • "Absolutely lovely (Ramblers Retreat) for a quiet break away , The cottage was comfortable and clean and the living area upstairs was comfortable for relaxing with everything you need in the kitchen ."

Plenty of nearby walks of various lengths, short walk to the village (even found a short cut) After a day out walking there is nothing better than relaxing in the hot tub . All in all a 5 star getaway and perfect for having a chilled break .

  • "The Ramblers Retreat is a lovely little cottage, perfect for our needs with twin boys and a dog, my son loved the upside down cottage which was very cleverly thought out."

The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms were spacious and airy, the modern shower room was easy to use, it would have been great to have a shelf in there though. Upstairs the living area was comfortable, it was a lovely touch with the dog blankets, keeping well loved pooches off the furniture is very hard, especially when you leave them to go to bed, the blankets solved this issue, which I think was great. The kitchen was well equipped for our needs. We also had the bonus of a welcome gift of some bubbly with a card, but also, milk, dog treats and everything you needed to make a cuppa. The property also has lots of maps and guides on where to go, aswell as, lots of books, games and toys for younger visitors. Outside is a cute courtyard with a hot tub which is kept at 38 at all times. It's just a perfect little cottage. The only way it could be improved is by having a shelf in the bathroom and maybe some notepads for planning adventures. Thank you so much for a perfect week.

  • "Well equipped, nicely decorated cottage."

The owners have included all the items you need to make it a home from home. Really lovely kitchen with everything you need. There was tea, coffee, sugar and fresh milk provided as well as a bottle of prosecco. There were also a few basic condiments and cooking oils which was a welcome find....as a lot of places we've stayed don't provide these. Tons of useful information on the local area and walks and a big array of toys, board games and DVDs were also provided. The cottage was well-presented tidy and clean in the main areas that mattered. There was quite a lot of dust and cobwebs however that hadn't been addressed. From a comfort perspective this is a personal preference of course, most visitors commented on comfy beds but for me they were too soft and meant a lot of difficulty sleeping. But it's hard to please everyone on mattress preference. All the garden chairs have fixed-width arms, which means for a wider person these are uncomfortable and pinch. I found the sofa and armchair in the living space really comfy but only enough room for 3 people to sit so if 4 people are staying at the cottage then one person misses out. A non-slip mat for the shower would be beneficial and some shelf space in the bathroom would also be a welcome addition. We really enjoyed the hot tub, this is a great addition and really fantastic to relax in after a long hike. Easy to park one car outside the front and space for other cars in the Mill car park next door. A lovely place from which to explore the Dales.

Well maintained property with lots of space for a family of four. Loads of fantastic walks in close proximity to the house and the hot tub was a real bonus. Would be good if one of the beds was a twin instead, as would work better for families. Fortunately you don’t have to go very far for the views. Hot tub is an excellent addition and was used every evening. Plenty of blankets for the dog and the enclosed garden was secure enough for my small Chihuahua.

Poorly described by Sykes, missing essential safety features. On a busy road with heavy traffic at peak times. Accessed from side gate with several steps down to the hot tub, then several steps up to the door and then staircase up to living area. Having said that, once inside it is very, very comfortable and a good spot to tour the Dales.

The duvet is a silent night one and only a year old. You are the only person who mentioned bedding. Everybody else says how nice the beds are. The steps outside are shown in the picture on sykes website of the cottage to let people know. We have never had a complaint about the settee before either. We had already ordered a new settee 3 months ago as the cottage is having a mini re vamp in January we are having the old settee at our house as we dont find it uncomfortable .Sorry you won't be staying again. A week didn’t feel long enough to explore all of the gorgeous scenery. We spent our days walking and evenings recouperating in the hot tub. So many wonderful walks within settle and so many others in the surrounding villages. I downloaded outdoor active, that was super helpful for finding new routes and places to walk wherever we were, you can track your own route or follow someone else’s and pick length/difficulty etc. The cottage and facilities were exactly what you need all of the home comforts, good bed, cutlery/crockery and ability to cook a proper meal, if you’re so inclined. As the cottage is bedrooms downstairs and living/kitchen upstairs and stairs down into the cottage courtyard. It can feel like another mountain to climb after a long walk. The hot tub definitely helps rejuvenate you after a day of walking, utter bliss especially when we found the setting that focussed on legs!! We loved the talbot arms and the naked man bakery/cafe If you want lovely fresh bread/cakes get there early to avoid disappointment! A lovely cottage, in a lovely village. We will definitely be back - if you’ll have us!

30pm , amazing in April! Its next to the River Ribble, lovely place to sit in the sun and watch the Herons. Cottage is 7 min walk from Settle, a lovely little town with loads of choices for food shopping and takeaways. Booths a quality supermarket. 2 mins up and out of Settle you are in spectacular landscapes. 7 miles to drive to beautiful Malham, you cant beat The Lister Arms with open fire and great food. Waterfall walks from Malaham fantastic. Also did the Settle-Carlisle beautiful train journey again , as the scenery is stunning! About the location

SETTLE

Malham 6 miles; Skipton 17 miles; Kendal 25 miles.

The bustling market town of Settle lies at the south west rim of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, nestled beside the largest outcrop of limestone in Britain - a region of scars, cliffs, caves and potholes - amongst some of the most picturesque scenery in North Yorkshire. Tuesday is market day in Settle, when the square is filled with stalls offering a wide variety of crafts and goods. The market place is surrounded by local businesses, the centre being dominated by The Shambles, an historic three storey building with shops on two levels and houses above, and the Town Hall. There is a good selection of restaurants and pubs and a public swimming pool. The Victoria Hall has entertainment and other activities such as folk nights throughout the year. The famous Settle-Carlisle Railway crosses some of the most beautiful and inspiring upland scenery in the country. Natural attractions such as Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are within easy reach, as are the nearby Dales towns of Skipton and Malham. Settle is in the midst of excellent walking country and is a good base for touring the Dales, the Lake District and the Forest of Bowland.
