  • "A lovely holiday property, the best part was having a fully enclosed garden for the dogs."

We really appreciated the welcome pack after a long journey. The dogs also had treats too. Personally we found the living area rather cool in the evenings. We did light the fire on the second evening which helped, although I would suggest a log burner fan which is free standing could help distribute the heat around the spacious living area. A great property which helped break up our journey on the way back home.

  • "Our third stay at this lovely cottage and once again had a very relaxing week and although it rained for two days we just stayed in and lit the log burner and chilled out."

You wouldn't be able to do that in a B&B thats for sure!..Went to Foxton locks and watched the canal boats going up and down the locks, very interesting to see how it's done.Lots of birds in the bushes at the back of the garden and our border collie loved playing ball on the lawn and the garden was very secure and dog escape proof too, which is something you don't often get in a holiday let.We would thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone. The owners are very nice and down to earth very friendly to chat with. The views from the property are stunning best views we've had in 6 years of holidaying with sykes very peacefull surroundings. Bed pillows a little soft for us but that's the only fault I could say about the property, and obviously that's a personal thing someone else may not have issues with them. We were warm and cosy especially when the wood burner was lit. Very enjoyable stay lots to see and explore great base, melton mowbray is just up the road about 5 mins drive and has plenty of shops and food superstores to stock up if you want to cook at home. Beautiful garden centres with yummy food scones at the grange were massive you could only eat half at a time

  • "I’ve never stayed in a semi-detached cottage before so was concerned when I read the review of Teal cottage after I had booked saying the walls were paper thin."

However, I couldn’t hear next door at all! The views of the countryside are stunning and it was lovely to sit outside. The only part of the garden that was not secure for my tiny Yorkie was under the gate but the friendly owner sorted that out. You can go for a walk in the evenings as it is surrounded by farmland with public pathways. It’s easy to get to lots of different places. If you like visiting houses then Historic Houses is better value - Belvoir Castle alone is £26. Out of the six places visited only one was National Trust. As I’m a member of both I only paid for parking at Foxton Canal for the whole week. The house is clean and well cared for.

We were there over Xmas and lacked many items, e.g. 3 champagne glasses, no garlic press, terrible knives for veg and nothing for carving, no salad servers. I could go on. I had made a mistake and arrived a day early, we were sent away by a very unfriendly owner, Joy, who dealt with my mistake badly. We noted many positive comments about the welcome tray but we were underwhelmed by ours! Lovely cottage, fire great, Andrew was much kinder and took in our shopping delivery, for which we were most grateful. Cottage needs attention re kitchen. We will mot be returning, shame, lovely area.

Nice super king size bed, shower and great TV. The garden was probably dog proof for larger dogs but the gate had large gaps so we couldn't take our Chorkie off the lead. If the gate had been dog- proofed there wouldn't have been any negative comments at all.

Our dog doesn't like traveling too far, so we picked this accommodation because it was 40 minutes away from home. The garden is large and secure and the dog loved it. My husband and I are doing the 'couch to 5k' and the garden was big enough to run around. We walked the dog along the gated road, at the bottom of the drive. Because you can see so far ahead, we were able to let him off-lead, which makes for a much more pleasant walk, as he is inclined to pull sometimes on-lead. The weather was kind to us and just being in the countryside felt good for the soul. The beds were comfortable, the layout was good and the accommodation included pretty much everything we needed. The only thing we couldn't find, was a hand whisk, which would have been handy when we made pancakes. It was one of the best places we've visited and we hope to go again some time. We got to meet the lovely Joy and she made us feel very welcome. I would happily recommend to others.

My only request would be that it would be nice to be allowed to have a bbq in the garden and another oven glove is needed in the kitchen as it’s difficult to lift things out of the microwave with just one. Otherwise it was just perfect - the best holiday cottage we’ve had.

We don’t have bbq as we are surrounded by wheat fields and harvest time would be a fire hazard, and I will sort the oven glove problem. Thank you for coming Property Owner

The cottage was extremely spacious, lovely and warm, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The welcome pack that the owners left us was very much appreciated too, very thoughtful. Our dog also had a great week and the enclosed rear garden kept the dog safe when outdoors. We would highly recommend this cottage.

The cottage was everything I’d hoped for and more, comfortable, cosy, clean, and with beautiful views across open fields with no light pollution whilst still being close to local shops and some beautiful walks. The welcome goodies were a real treat (including for my dog who loved the enclosed garden) and comforting to know the owners are on hand if you need anything. I’d definitely recommend this place and would be happy to return.

This modern farm building conversion is outstanding & nothing has been left out. The finish eg kitchen, bathrooms & flooring etc are all to an extremely high standard & go towards making your stay feel very comfortable & luxurious. Every possible utensil has been provided in the kitchen! The beds are very comfortable & the linen/towels are lovely (& a great size). The view is spectacular & it’s incredibly peaceful. A very generous welcome pack is provided on arrival from the owners, who live on site & are very happy to be contacted, if needed. Chose this property as a disabled guest & cottage is level access with wide doors throughout (small lip at front & French doors). However, the owner DOES have a ramp should anyone need to borrow it. Bedroom 2 has walk in shower cubicle. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mandarin Cottage & will certainly be making a return visit.

A stool to go in front of the bedroom dressing tables, would allow the mirror to be used seated. A few hooks on bathroom and bedroom doors would add additional storage. You can now get hooks which hook over the door so no drilling or affixing to the doors are needed. No shelf in the bathrooms, give you nowhere for your toothbrushes etc., to be stored. The seating in the lounge was not very comfortable, and could be improved.

Sit across from the culinary master at the breakfast bar with a glass of wine, and enjoy the views out to the fields and the last of the evening light from the velux windows.
