• "The Ingle is a very cute little cottage, ideal for two, with stunning views of the Barmouth Estuary."

  Be warned however, that you need to be reasonably fit, as the only access is by foot up 100+ steep steps - including carrying all your luggage, so heed the warning to pack light (rucksacks not suitcases). However, once you get there it really is stunningly situated, with it's own private terrace to watch the tide ebb and flow.

  5 acres of Land (Dinas Oleu / Cliff of Light).to the National Trust Incredible Views from the Terrace and a Wonderful Old Fisherman's Cottage with original beams and floor A couple of issues with the shower occasionally leaking and the fridge freezing, but I would happily recommend the cottage and definitely stay again Strongly recommend walking up behind the cottage and visiting Dinas Oleu, Frenchman's Grave, Cae Fadog and finding a different route down each time into Barmouth Great selection of shops and food outlets and great location for exploring the local area, walking the Mawddach Trail, visiting Coed y Brenin Forest and Portmeirion Lovely cottage - loved our stay here and would happily recommend it

• "A lovely little bolthole to escape to, the steep climb to get there is worth it for the amazing views, you do need to be fairly fit to manage the steps and would definitely advise not too much luggage."

  As echoed by others the outside seating could have been better, no chairs as shown in pics just a bench. Luckily we had some camping chairs in the car which we could use. The cottage itself was cozy and comfy, the kitchen area was very limited and as we stayed a week we needed to prepare a few meals and there was very little space to do this but for a short stay it would definitely suffice. All in all we would recommend the Ingle to anyone seeking a short break in a lovely location away from the hustle and bustle but within reach of everything you need.

• "On the whole the Ingle is as described."

  However, considering previous feedback the shower still floods the sitting room. The bathroom basin is also unusable due to size and positioning. When booking self-catering I expect to be able to cook. The 'oven' is unusable other than for reheating food and is also in a dangerous position. There is also no means of escape if a fire were to occur and you were in the bedroom. The window only opens at the top - I am not sure this complies with fire regulations. The views from the cottage are stunning, that alone made our holiday.

• "We had a fabulous stay at the Ingle, the cottage is quirky and has magnificent views."

  However, issues from previous reviews have not been addressed. 1) The fact that the cottage needs to be accessed via Georges Lane and the route from there needs to be made much more explicit. the information we received from Sykes told us to access the cottage via the Dinas Oleu Road. This really needs to change as we followed these instructions and as the access road was closed, got quite lost. The higher road is very, very steep. the steps up from George's Lane is much more manageable. 2) The shower still drips into the living space. That said the cottage is cosy and centrally located but only if you are fit and like a hike.

• "Room heater only worked occasionally, table too high for chairs, microwave difficult/dangerous to reach up to, hob difficult to activate, broken door on freezer compartment in fridge, torches not working, wooden chopping board unhygienic, no fly spray, no info on separating rubbish for re-cycling, outside lights not working."

• "Cottage is very small but conversion is well designed, well furnished and very clean."

  Excellent location for walking and beach and manageable without a car. Lovely in good weather as beautiful view but would be hard work in rain as no space for wet clothes. Only basic cooking on hob possible as have to carry shopping up 133 steps and microwave and oven too high to be safely accessible. . On arrival you have to continue to walk up the very steep road then take the steps down on the right by the sign for Dinas olea but detailed instructions for access while the lower road is closed should be provided .

• "Quirky little cottage in an outstanding position with the most amazing view but it has a few niggles (see other reviews) which are not being addressed."

  The shower does not drain properly, the tiny, tiny basin in the bathroom is totally inadequate, and alternative directions for access really should be given as the path closure has gone on for months. The steps access (133 of them in several short flights) is via St George's Lane (opposite The Tilman) - keep going up, past the benches, and just after the sandbags look for a narrow almost-hidden path to the left, in front of two cottages, The Ingle is just beyond these cottages. The accommodation is small but it is comfortable and well-equipped. The wifi was excellent, and parking permit provision brilliant. The position makes for excellent access to the hills above Barmouth as well as the town, but you do need to be fit, things get quite steep at times, and the staircase in the cottage is a glorified ladder. Travel light and with back-packs!

• "It was a lovely break but would have been so much better as the road to the cottage was closed at the junction that the instructions told us to take so we had to use the very very steep hill to gain access in doing so my partner injured his ankle/leg which put paid to us doing the walking we intended."

  It would also help to have a sign at the top of the steps leading to the cottage . The cottage itself was wonderful the views amazing ,the bed was comfy kitchen area really good so really happy with our stay other than the climb which put a slight damper on our break . Would stay again if the access was opened up

• "When we got there we followed the instructions to get to the cottage but someone never emailed us to let us know that when u go past a few cottage’s as it straightens out that the path was closed to people due to a retaining wall been rebuilt."

  That meant we had to go right to the top of the hill to get to the Ingle cottage. We would have thought that someone would have let us know about this. The way down to the main road and back we had to endure 136 steps because the way we were told to go we couldn’t which I think is pretty poor not letting us know. Also while my partner was in the shower I was sat on the sofa and got drips of water coming thru off the ceiling in the lounge in 2 places so I would be investigating where there is a leak if I was the owner.

• "Wonderful little cottage."

  It is quite a climb up the steps and paths to the place, but so worth it. What a fabulous view ! We really enjoyed our stay. Very pretty area. Memorable- thankyou!

• "There were two storms that came through which caused a power cut."

  The agency were not interested in moving us so we could shower etc. We organised engineer to fix it. The agency did not even call back to see if it was fixed! The woman on the phone found the whole event amusing. The side window leaked too. I will not be using this agency again!

• "On the advert it does mention being “able bodied” I however think that is an understatement the property is at the top of a very steep hill."

  The views are lovely as per the pictures but I would say suggesting it is suffice to be able bodied is a massive understatement. The place is smaller than it appears on the photos - not a massive issue but it was far more cramped than I was expecting and my other half kept banging his head on the ceiling. We had about 10 woodlouse in the bedroom in the space of 3 days which I wasn’t a fan of- I am not sure if anything can be done about that as I understand that it is an old building. Overall the place was clean, the views spectacular and we were very lucky to have glorious weather all weekend.

At the moment, the main path is out of action because of a collapsed wall, so I'm afraid you probably had to take the ultra-steep path, which is really hard work. Sorry to hear that took away from your trip, though. The access should be back to normal very soon. As far as the woodlice go, it is indeed a very old property built into the rock itself, so these are really unavoidable. But we're glad you found the property to be clean and enjoyed the views. • "I have stayed in many places in Barmouth,the ingle is by far my favourite."

  The location is fantastic and the property is cosy and comfortable.If I have to come up with anything negative,an iron and ironing board would be nice but maybe I just couldn't find it.Hope to stay there again soon.

• "The property is in need of some TLC."

  It was not clean and this was reported to Menai cottages. Views spectacular but walk to cottage can be difficult for less mobile, but we managed ok as reasonably fit 60 plus year olds.Take heed to travel light as it is a steep walk. Enjoyed our stay and loved Barmouth but wouldn't stay there again.

• "The only 2 problems we had were, the hair dryer, on hot it cuts out until it has cooled down, my hair is very thick so needed a hot hair dryer."

  The fire kept the place lovely and cosy but again sometimes would not turn on even on a morning after being off all night. Wiggle the thermostat control and it would eventually turn back on. On the whole....the cottage is amazing, a true gem of a find as you can probably guess as we extended our stay AND booked again. Some people complained about the outside furniture but we found the bench appropriate, particularly with the bench cushion, for the space. The oven was a bit tricky to figure out but hey ho survived on fish and chips lol. My husband says to apologise to the house keeper as my hair moults like an orangutan

• "We had a lovely stay."

  The property was comfortable, except for the exceptionally tiny bathroom sink, and tastefully furnished.The heating worked well and having a log effect electric fire was a added bonus. All the kitchenette facilities were of good quality, although perhaps inside the saucepan cupboard and cutlery drawer could have been cleaner. The bed sheets were also of good quality, but perhaps some shelving and a wardrobe, instead of a small dresser would give more storage. Only minor things and certainly nothing to spoil a lovely holiday in a beautiful property, with stunning views.

• "Had a truly memorable stay at ‘ The Ingle’ which was definitely enhanced by beautiful warm weather for our entire stay."

  The description was accurate so no surprises when we arrived. It is very tiny but the space available has been utilised well, and yes, the stairs are steep but you soon get used to them. Good shower and plenty of towels. Lovely comfy bed with fantastic views.The integral fridge is floor standing and the capacity is very minimal so I found it frustrating to use so just to be aware of this and also general storage space is mainly non existent. There is only one spotlight in the shower room and one evening as I put it on, it popped and fused the upstairs lighting circuit. I contacted Jo, the housekeeper, who was very helpful and managed to find out for us the location of the fuse box, and, after finding a spare bulb in the kitchen cupboard, we were back up and running again. It was Summer Bank Holiday during our stay so extremely busy in the town but so nice to escape the crowds and get back to The Ingle for some peace and tranquility and ‘those views’ The walks uphill from the back of the cottage were great with lots of options, also the ferry boat across to Fairbourne but just being there was a tonic in itself. No more to be said as the views say it all!!

• "The view from The Ingle is incredible and the cottage itself is beautiful and very tastefully decorated."

  We had a lovely 2 night stay in Barmouth and slept like logs, the bed is so comfy (and the sea air knocked us out!). Opening the curtains to that view of the sea in the morning was really special. A couple of little things - there were little black hairs on the stairs and in the bathroom so it didn’t feel super clean. We had to hunt for the welcome pack to try and find instructions for the oven etc, not sure why this isn’t left out, it was crumpled in a box behind the tv. The oven also didn’t look very clean inside. In the listing photos there were chairs on the balcony but when we stayed there was a very rickety old bench that felt and sounded like it was about to break. The shower was also very hot and couldn’t seem to be turned down. These are just little things but they add up - overall it was a lovely spot, very pretty and cosy.
