  • "We went to Cariad Cottage to celebrate my 40th bday as a break away from the kids."

The house is well furnished and comfortable. The hot tub is great fun and the bed rooms are lovely. We had plenty of space and came home very happy. The chickens and dogs were very friendly (not in an overwhelming way.) and made us feel just as welcome as the owners. The welcome booklet was filled with all the info we needed plus lots of practical information about the local areas which really helped us. We would be very happy to stay there again.

  • "Positive- The house and grounds are accessible for wheelchair users, the beds were comfortable, it’s close to the seaside and the staff were friendly."

Negatives- The games room was a barn where birds could enter and there was bird droppings all over the pool table and other games tables. The hot tub was not accessible for a wheelchair user and the steps did not have a handrail making it challenging for users with poor balance and mobility. Worst of all the property run out of gas on Tuesday morning and was not refilled until Thursday morning, meaning 2 full days without heating, hot water and gas hob/oven was unusable, we were told this was not the owner’s fault and were given a meal from the pub as compensation which in our opinion does not equate to 2 days without basic facilities.

Ripped settee and pouffee. Arrived and broken washing machine, not replaced until mid holiday. Z bed frame full of dust. Backdoor lock broken in fairness when we reported it they did offer to come over but we had had enough at this point.. Tumble dryer didn’t work. Shed for rubbish was not maintained annd there was half opened bags of rubbish everywhere .Apart from that it was fine.

The cottage had everything you needed for a comfortable stay the hot tub and games room were a bonus . Beds lovely and comfortable and plenty of towels available. There were also lots of nice morning and evenings walks for the dogs. We enjoyed visiting New Quay, Aberaeron, Cardigan, Tresaith beach (a lovely beach), Castell Henilys (An Iron Age Village a worthwhile visit ). The Moody Cow farm shop and cafe well worth a visit. Happy to recommend this cottage if you want to explore this part of Wales.

We had a lovely stay, only improved by the wonderful weather! Inside, everything you could possibly need has been included but the outside area is where this property really shines. The hot tub and bbq were utilised almost daily, and the lawns are a great place for a walk - if you're lucky, the chickens will come over to see you. We can't wait to return next year!

  • "We had a great week in this cottage, in spite of storm Katherine trying to make our week a misery!"

The hot tub was enjoyed by all (would have used more if it had a canopy to keep the rain off while in it given the weather we had during our stay). The games barn was good to have attached to the house. Bring your own darts as there weren't any during our stay. The beds were comfy and they provided plenty of towels for hot tub use. Having a tumble dryer was also a bonus. WiFi was sketchy, which was a bit of a problem for the kids. And although there's a smart TV, we couldn't use it because the WiFi wasn't strong enough. Overall it was a good stay and we all enjoyed ourselves..

  • "Ten of us and two pooches enjoyed our stay at Cariad Cottage."

The location is convenient for some lovely seaside visits and the setting allowed us a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. The cottage itself has all the amenities you need, including laundry area with washing machine and tumble dryer which is great for muddy clothes, swim suits and towels. The kitchen was well equipped so it felt like a home from home. Though the hot tub and games room were great additions, both need some maintenance. The pergola surrounding the hot tub could do with a paint and some additional lighting (the intermittent flashing fairy lights were slightly jarring at night) and us adults couldn't play pool and darts as intended because there was only one dart and no white ball for the table. The kids in the party made do anyway but it was a shame for us not to fully make use of that space. We were concerned that the hot tub wasn't maintained over our stay - the water line was a bit grubby after a couple of uses (owing to there being ten of us) so we didn't use it on our last full day. General cleanliness was fine but there were some dusty, cobwebby corners and one of the upstairs bathroom bins was full on arrival, as well as some dirty plates in the cupboard (presumably put straight away from the dishwasher without being checked over). Other maintenance issues include a loose tap on the upstairs bathroom sink and the downstairs en suite wet room could do with more effective waterproofing to prevent the water spilling out onto the bedroom floor. We were slightly disappointed that we didn't feel as welcomed as some of the reviews suggested we would. We only happened to bump into the owner when we were asked to move our car from the side of the house to allow their vehicles access. Our kids were also asked to take the owners' dogs back down the lane to their home; we were confused by this as we understood that they would be roaming about. The kids then worried about interacting with them when they did see them which made us feel like a bit of a nuisance. We would recommend a stay at Cariad Cottage based on the beautiful location and the ability to stay with a large group, but some aspects did leave us slightly underwhelmed particularly after reading previous reviews.

Lovely games room the kids loved it couldn’t stay out of it. The Jacuzzi wow is all I can say. Had a few plumbing issues which I told the host who immediately had them attended too even though there were not around. • "A wonderfully located cottage with beautiful surroundings."

The owner, Ray, was very welcoming and friendly and left us a thoughtful arrival package which was lovely. There was also a very helpful information booklet about the house and the area. The cottage was very spacious with absolutely everything you need for a comfortable stay. It was clean, fresh and lovingly decorated. The piano at the top of the stairs was a hit with the children. There is a private decked area out the back with a large hot tub, which was magically lit at night with the use of fairy lights. A definite added delight. The working development of the games room was an added bonus too, as the children spent lots of time on the pool table and ping-pong table. There is a small outdoor play area that had a trampoline, swing and tree house that were all disable friendly, which was perfect for us, as we had disabled family members in our party. We had fresh eggs delivered to our cottage one morning from the chickens on site and the owners dogs were lovely, friendly and well behaved. They played with our dog whenever they were out, which was lovely to see. There were horses on the land to go and see and the lovely little lakes to walk around. The Fantasy Farm Park, which is only about 10 minutes drive, is an absolute must. It was very reasonably priced and we spent the whole day there. You can feed and pet the animals, go on a short nature walk, ride the rodeo, race the go-carts, peddle the boats and much more. The tractor ride around the field was brilliant. The supermarkets are about 25 minutes drive away, with Tesco, Morrisons, Home Bargains and Iceland in the same area, along with a few smaller ones. Some will actually deliver to the cottage. On the whole, the stay was absolutely way and above our expectations. Ray is an absolute credit as a host and all the party had an amazing stay. We will definitely be back again.

There were three good sized double bedrooms with spacious ensuite bathroom facilities and a compact twin room, but plenty of room on the landing for storage of cases etc. The owners were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, attending to a minor maintenance issue immediately. In a tranquil inland setting the cottage is ideally placed for visiting coastal towns and there are walks from the doorstep for canine friends. The owners dogs, Archie and Barkus were very friendly - eager to meet and greet. Lovely organic farm nearby for vegetables and, if in Lampeter, there's also a great store there that does all manner of gourmet and everyday produce and lovely bread - Watson and Pratts and Lampeter Bakehouse. Anyone looking for Welsh quilts and blankets might like to check out the array of vintage stock at Jen Jones (Llanbydder). New Quay offers paddle boarding, kayaking and dolphin watch boat tours (we were lucky enough to see them in the bay from the harbour side). Llangrannog (down steep twisitng lanes) also seems to offer surfing and surf kayaking - when the weather permits (maybe not during storm Francis which made it's presence felt during our stay) - and there is RNLI cover too. However it said it sleeps 11 which is a bit of an push! It comfortably sleeps 8 with one main bathroom and two en suites. 11 people is massive squeeze consider seeing there is no place to put an extra sofa bed/single bed apart from the living room or landing area. The house itself was great and the hot tub was brilliant. Only recommendation would be for the hot tub or outside area to have some sort of cover and somewhere to put towels on a rainy day! Also the oven barely cooked any food so cooking for 10 people took forever - with a waiting time for a pizza of an hour! Needs a bigger oven and fridge to accommodate larger numbers of people. Rooms could do with a refresh - especially the beds and mattresses, which were creaky and lumpy! However we had a really good stay and the owners and the area was lovely! Just a few modifications and the stay would have been perfect. Need to advertise this as an 8 person house with the option of 2 spare beds. Don’t turn up with couples and expect them to sleep on the landing or in someone else’s room!

  • "The cottage was just great- really spacious and well-equipped so the whole family had plenty of room to spread out."

We loved the hot tub, great kitchen and general comforts (like plenty of towels supplied, dishwasher tablets and other necessities that not all holiday cottages provide). Lovely hosts too! Our children enjoyed the playground and meeting the family. All in all, highly recommended as a comfortable base in West Wales. We would definitely stay there again.

The cottage made a large family including two dogs very happy! Everything was spot on and the rooms were very comfortable and spacious. The hot tub was a bit and the log burner made the evenings extra cosy. We could not have been happier!

Ray and Dawn were very helpful and made us feel like part of the family. It really was a home from home and we couldn't have asked for a friendlier reception. Nothing was too much trouble! Great facilities for full time wheelchair user and brilliant setting. Outside space was amazing , didn't think our collie was going to want to come home. Already booked another stay!! Thanks for a lovely holiday

The owners went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and could not have been more welcoming. We had a great holiday and would recommend Cariad Cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful location, just a short drive to stunning coastline. Our second time using Sykes cottages and not disappointed.

very helpful landlords, pets overly friendly and seeing the horses was amazing. the only issue that we faced was with the hot tub, it was getting dirty so quickly I think there was a problem with the filter, and only advise is make to have a tent over the hottub or something. but other than that it was amazing I would definitely would be returning there with the family

  • "Lovely house nicely presented in a quiet location."

It felt private away from owners house meaning we could enjoy the garden and house without feeling overlooked. Dawn and Ray were very friendly and helpful and a lot of hard work as obviously gone into the lovely house. One minor observation was that the sofa/chair beds weren't made up for our arrival and that they are a little tired and not very comfy compared to the rest of the beds. Also the jack and Jill bathroom does not have a shower (despite having the fittings) which was a little chaotic with having 10 adults. We really enjoyed our stay and the proximity to the local beaches and the weather was perfect!

  • "We stayed at Cariad Cottage 3rd/10th November - we expected peace and quiet and got it in abundance."

The welcome from Dawn and Ray was lovely and nothing was too much trouble, it was as though we had known them for years. We were free to wander with our dog around the land and visited the stables to say hello to the horses. The cottage is warm, cosy and the wood burner on a chilly November night was fabulous. Everything we needed was there and the hot tub was a huge hit with the family even with frost on the ground !!! Despite being very peaceful you are only 15 mins from Aberaeron where there are lovely local shops etc. We are already sorting out our four busy lives for a visit next year !!!
