"Lovely spacious and comfortable property in a beautiful part of Wales."
Good quality kitchen utensils and equipment - everything we needed to make the holiday a home from home.
-
"It was a perfect holiday Annexe."
Everything you could possibly need was there. Sarah is a lovely host. A beautiful area to stay. It was the best holiday we have had in a long time. Thank you.
-
"We loved staying at the Annexe!"
The property was light, spacious and well maintained, and the location was brilliant, with excellent walks on the doorstep. Lots of thoughtful touches (e.g. good black out blinds in the kids' bedrooms) and a very generous welcome hamper. The kids loved the trampoline.
-
"Excellent accommodation."
Owners very friendly. Cottage extremely well equipped. Location was fabulous
-
"A stunning property in a beautiful location."
Has everything you need and more. Friendly owner is nearby if required and is a wealth of information on things to see and do in the area. River access, walks and cycling straight from the door, including access into Coed y Brenin MTB trails. Centrally located for North Wales with easy access to most areas. Highly recommended.
-
"We had a lovely stay at this cottage."
Ideally based which gave access to lots of places to visit. Gavin & Sarah were friendly and welcoming and even left a little hamper of goodies to start us off. Wonderful birdwatching from the sitting room. Points to note... the stairs to the the first floor were very steep and if someone turned the water on downstairs the water turned off upstairs! However we all managed to stay clean for the week!
-
"Wonderful accommodation."
Lovely hosts. Best welcome pack ever. Can't thank you enough for providing disabled chair for the shower. Highly recommended.
-
"We had a lovely few days at Hen Gelligemlyn."
It is very placed for the coed y brenin forest for mountain biking and walking. The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. A great choice for mountain biking as you can ride to the trails straight from the cottage and it is very well set up with bike storage and washing facilities. The owners were very helpful and accommodating.
-
"We absolutely loved our stay at Hen Gelligemlyn."
It’s a beautiful, peaceful place. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped with helpful and welcoming hosts. The surroundings are stunning - from the riverside setting to the waterfalls, lakes and local beaches within easy reach. Our 6 and 10 year old boys had the best time skimming stones, bouncing in caves and playing board games by the fire. What a treat. Thank you and I hope we can return sometime.
-
"Extremely well equipped, comfortable, warm, peaceful cottage."
Lovely welcome hamper and general items such as soaps, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, tea, coffee, etc. Makes such a difference to a relaxing stay. Hosts were friendly and helpful, garden was beautiful. In a great location for touring the area.
-
"Very nice and very helpful owners."
They also give good advice what to do in the neighbourhood. The cottage is very spacious and very well equipped. A good base to explore southern Snowdonia and the coast from Barmouth to Porthmadog.
-
"A great base to explore the Dolgellau area and Sarah and Gav were great hosts."
A lovely property, fully equipped - so nice it was starting to feel like home!
-
"Beautiful cottage - clean, well equipped, really homely with a beautiful garden."
Lovely family. Great location for Snowdonia and the coast. Can't recommend highly enough.
-
"The cottage was ideal for us."
It was homely and spotlessly clean. Beds very comfortable and kitchen well equipped. As I am wheelchair bound the accessibility was imperative. It was easy for my son to wheel me over the threshold both at the front and the back into lovely big garden. Loved watching the birds on the feeder including a beautiful wood pecker! Thank you Sarah for patience when we were very late arriving and Gavin for coming out to direct us to property. Enjoyed chatting to Gavin. Loved the way he was very apologetic about weather! How else would the area be so beautifully green? Loved the wood burner with free wood etc. for lighting. We always love a wood burner! It was perfect really in every respect and felt we would have been able to approach owners had there been any problem. We will book again - hopefully soon. Thank you again to Sarah and Gavin for warm welcome to North Wales which is so beautiful. My advice is not to miss Portmeirion as it is only half an hour away. It is positively astounding.
-
"Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting."
Owners very helpful and friendly and live on site. Close to beaches, woodland walks, waterfalls and interesting places to visit. Would return and recommend.
-
"An idyllic setting, perfect hosts, a beautiful annexe, wonderful wildlife and a week of fantastic weather."
Unbeatable. Thank you.
-
"The annex was the perfect accommodation for visiting Snowdonia."
It was one of the most relaxing holiday homes we have stayed in. Very peaceful with everything you need to be comfortable. Sarah and Gavin made us very welcome and were very helpful about where to go in the area. Morning's were made by watching so many birds visiting the garden, and a sit by the river.
-
"Super accommodation in a great location."
We were warmly welcomed upon arrival, then greeted by a lovely hamper of local goodies once inside. The property is spacious, comfortable, well furnished and set in a beautiful spot next to the river filled with wild birdlife. Can't wait to return.
-
"We enjoyed everything about the holiday cottage."
On arrival we were warmly met and knew we could call on the owners if we needed any help. However, the cottage had everything we needed and so we had a perfect week. We valued the spacious downstairs living space, the quiet location, easy parking, the wonderful view down the garden and the great variety of garden birds that visited the feeders. Thank you Sarah and Gavin.
-
"We had a fabulous stay in this beautiful property."
It is comfortable, very well equipped and in an excellent location for exploring all that Snowdonia has to offer. We had a very warm welcome from Gavin and Sarah and will definitely visit again.
-
"Excellent property lovely location which was quiet and set amongst stunning scenery ."
Hosts where friendly and very helpful but discrete . Near to amazing walks , castles and coastline .
-
"A lovely stay in a peaceful secluded cottage with Barmouth and the mountains on your doorstep."
Excellent hosts who are welcoming and helpful. A generous welcome pack for your arrival provides some great local treats and cakes. What more do you need ... nothing!
-
"Lovely place in a quiet setting."
Perfect for exploring this part of Wales
-
"An outstanding cottage with all the facilities you need in a idilic part of North Wales."
Easy access to Dolgellau Barmouth and Bala with plenty of places to visit. Gavin and Sarah were excellent hosts with lots of local knowledge and nothing was too much trouble. Can highly recommend a visit.
-
"A really beautiful, comfortable, very well equipped cottage in a stunning location."
The owners could not have been kinder or more gracious as hosts. We had an amazing week and I hope we will return next year.
-
"Great hosts and I really enjoyed my stay."
The large window to the garden was just a dream to sit and watch. I had a beautiful time
-
"This is fantastic accommodation very clean and well equipped, central to all the things you are likely to do in North Wales the owners are very nice and obviously take great pride ensuring you have a great stay highly recommended will definitely return."

"The annexe is beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and comfortable."
Our welcome basket was overflowing with goodies, as well as including essentials for our stay and was much appreciated. Thank you to hosts Gavin, Sarah and family, who were welcoming, friendly and kind. We hope to stay here again.
-
"We had a splendid week at this excellent cottage ."
-
"When planning this holiday I was looking for somewhere which was accessible for people with limited mobility and I struck gold with The Annexe."
Communication with Sarah was excellent. On arrival we were immediately made to feel welcome by the whole family (including the dog). The Annexe far exceeded expectations. Spacious, clean, well equipped, comfortable accommodation in a beautiful setting. The main bedroom is on the ground floor and has a spacious en suite with a good sized shower. This room looks out onto the lawn leading down to the river.. a view i could never tire of. Upstairs there are 2 more bedrooms and a bathroom.. all clean and comfortable. The sitting room is stunning , a large room with a woodburner and a good supply of logs and bi-folding doors out onto the lawn and the views i mentioned earlier. The kitchen has everything you need and more.. even a wine cooler. There was a very generous hamper with Welsh cakes, bread, milk, chocolates, tea, coffee, wine and more.. this was a lovely touch. There is no mobile signal but there is a decent WiFi provided. There are laundry facilities too - they even provided the capsules for the washing machine. Our hosts were welcoming and accommodating whilst respecting our privacy and social distancing . Their 2 boys were extremely polite and sociable. We would highly recommend the Annexe. If you need level access accomodation this is perfect. There are wheelchair/scooter accessible walks within a mile from the accomodation too. We are already planning our next visit..
-
"Almost too beautiful to believe its a just a couple of hours away Owners were so friendly and helpful."
Would visit again for sure.
-
"Beautiful cottage and surroundings."
The owners and their family couldn’t have been nicer and were incredibly welcoming. A little slice of paradise in beautiful North Wales.
-
"Hen Gelligemlyn is in a very good location to discover North Wales."
There are also lots of beautiful local walks so you do not need to go far to experience the lovely countryside. Sarah and Gavin are extremely accommodating and there was a welcome hamper for us on arrival which was very much appreciated. The Annexe is very equipped and clean and has a lovely view onto the garden. Our boys (9 and 7) played football with the owners children before/after days out which was nice. They are a lovely family. It was our first trip to Wales and the Annex was perfect. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a lovely stay.
-
"The owners were so helpful with the current crisis occurring."
We really couldn't have wished for more helpful people. They always responded quickly and we had a fantastic holiday, in a wonderful cottage in beautiful surroundings! We love it there. We've been before and we are likely to go back again.
-
"This is by far the best cottage we have been in as a family."
It is so comprehensively equipped we didn’t need any of the usual things we normally take with us. Sitting in the lounge and looking through the bi-fold doors on the wonderful view is unforgettable. There is nothing negative to say about this property and we cannot wait to stay again.
-
"The cottage was perfect in every way."
Rooms are spacious and comfortably furnished, everything was spotlessly clean. Although the inside of the cottage is quite rustic in appearance the kitchen and shower/bathroom were modern. We only cooked once but found everything in good and clean order. Before our arrival the owners put a welcome-hamper on the table with wine, chocolates, bread and Welsh cakes. They could not have been more welcoming or friendly. I am sure we will return. The general location of the cottage, whilst remote, offers easy access to main towns nearby as well as many attractions that are worth visiting. Our main reason for choosing this cottage was the remoteness and the dark skies we needed for some star-gazing. Sadly, the weather was not too good and we only had one cloudless night sky. During this night, however, we put up the telescope and can truly say that we have never seen the Milky Way as superbly before.
-
"Great location, excellent accommodation, very friendly welcoming owners."
-
"It was great!"
Erg luxe huis in stille relaxte omgeving. Prachtige uitzichten.
-
"This cottage should show as 5* plus!"
It was very comfortable, with everything we needed, lovely fresh bed linens and towels on comfy beds. Showers were excellent with good water pressure and no hardness to the water. I liked the fact the drinking water tap was fully filtered. The extra drinks chiller in the kitchen was a real boon for cans and bottled drinks. The lounge and bedrooms are roomy and very comfy. Sofas were great and our only regret was it was too warm to use the log burner. Internet was absolutely fine, but be prepared for no mobile phone service much of the time. It is in a mountain backed valley after all!! The gardens were beautiful and the surroundings like something from an exotic film. A sumptuous cottage, in a sublime location. What a slice of paradise!
-
"Great cottage."
Nice and clean. Lovely hosts.
-
"So nice to be back at a cottage which we remembered fondly from Spring last year."
My husband commented that it was better than he’d remembered. Super games and kitchen setup. I cannot believe we won’t be back again in the future.
-
"One of the best holiday lets we have ever had."
The situation of the property was very good. It was really well equipped, comfortable and warm. Gavin and Sarah were first rate hosts. We will go again
-
"The cottage was home from home and provided a fantastic break."
The owners were exceptionally accommodating and their boys were ready made playmates for our children. The walks and cycling were second to none. We live in the Yorkshire Dales, bordering the Lake District and this area definitely didn’t let us down.
-
"The Annexe is a wonderful property, in a wonderful location, with wonderful owners."
Everything about this holiday experience is carefully thought out. Can thoroughly recommend!
-
"Everything about The Annexe is perfect, starting with the lovely warm welcome from the owners when we arrived to the modern comfortable accommodation."
The property is very clean and well equipped and certainly feels like home from home. The spacious garden and football pitch were a great hit with our kids, and the location makes it a great base to explore the area, although there are so many walks to do right on the doorstep.
-
"Accommodation really comfortable."
Broadband unavailable for most of the week but this did not deter our enjoyment of this fabulous location.
Thank you for your feedback.. I have now installed Wifi boosters to ensure a stronger connectivity for future guests convenience. Property Owner

"We had a lovely time in The Annexe of Hen Gelligemlyn."
Our hosts were really nice and made us feel very welcome. The Annexe was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The area was very beautiful within forest with many lovely walks and central to many other areas of interest to visit. My first time in this area of Wales and would definately recommend The Annexe as a great place to stay. Thank you.

"Well, what can we say about this accommodation."
The location is stunning with breathtaking surroundings and the river at the bottom of the garden gives a wonderful background noise. We were met by Gavin one of the owners on arrival who showed us what we needed for a comfortable stay. There was a courtesy hamper with a few essentials and local produce (thank you) which we enjoyed working our way through. The Annex is well set out with a cosy feel, it had all you could need in the kitchen if you decide to eat in, there were books, dvd's, the Sky TV with Sports was a bonus and children's board games which we made use from. The Wifi worked when it wanted but this was a blessing in disguise as it enabled us to get a way from everything. Gavin and Sarah were perfect host and were around if needed, their boys ( 9 & 7) provided daily entertainment fo my 3 children (9,5 &5) whether it was taking them picking apples in the orchard, fishing by the river, organising football practice / matches or bike races. They were a lovely family and all ensued our stay was the perfect one. The surrounding area of the accommodation was made up of stunning mountain views with the river a constant divide. We had some wonderful walks and would bring the bikes to try the mountain bike trails when we return. Just 15 mins to Barmouth this holiday has all you need just a short trip to the seaside and shorter journey to tranquility off the waterfalls. On the last evening we were treated to a clear sky and the star gaining was unbelievable, I must remember the telescope for the next visit. Wheather you want to enjoy th mountain range and go walking/biking or want to build sand castles on the beach this is the perfect location and the perfect accommodation. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
-
"We have just returned from a lovely week staying in the beautiful Annexe."
Absolutely spotless and beautiful decor throghout. It has everything and more that you will ever need. Such a friendly welcome from the family on arrival. There was so much to do for my children, the owners children kept them entertained for hours, picking apples & blackberries, playing football, exploring on the bikes and much more, just great. I would highly recommend the Annexe for anyone.
-
"The cottage was very comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen and new appliances."
The two bathrooms were also excellent. Beds were comfortable. The owners were very welcoming but not intrusive and sharing the garden was no problem. The hamper left for us was very generous. Close to main routes without traffic noise. A very enjoyable week and lucky enough to have good weather.
-
"Sarah, Gavin and the family were a joy to meet so friendly and helpful."
The Annexe is in a beautiful part of Wales with the shops and beaches not to distant, the only sound you hear is the breeze rustling through the trees and birdsong of the various birds which abound this site.If you are looking for peace and tranquility this is the place just sit by the river to see a great variety of birds even the occasional trout jumping from the river pools this must truly be a little corner of heaven.
-
"A very comfortable and well appointed cottage with friendly and helpful owners."
In a beautiful area for walking, cycling and enjoying some of the " Little Trains of Wales".
-
"This is a lovely quiet spot with friendly hosts."
The recently renovated property was perfect for us as a couple and when joined by our parents.
-
"We had the BEST time in the Annexe at Hen Gelligemlyn - perfect location and beautiful property."
Sarah and Gavin were such perfect hosts and my son had a brilliant time playing with their two lovely boys. The area around the property is gorgeous, lots of lovely walks as well as the fantastic river. There's lots to do, we can highly recommend the Fairbourne pony trek on the beach and the Ffestionog railway to Porthmadog. Overall we simply couldn't ask for a better break - we've already arranged to return and we can't wait! x
-
"We knew the location of this cottage was good but hadn’t expected the river for the children (and me) to play and swim in."
The secure bike storage was another big plus for us. This is one cottage I expect we’ll return to.
-
"The Annexe at Hen Gelligemlyn was exactly as described: well equipped and perfectly clean."
The location is terrific, especially if you like walking, biking etc - it's also got a big garden and isn't far from the coast, so really ticks all the boxes. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming: apart from the indifferent weather, the holiday could hardly have been better. Booking through Sykes was straightforward and efficient, as we've come to expect - the Sykes website is easier to use than others we've tried to find just the right property in the right place - and at a sensible price.
-
"Beautiful cottage and setting, very comfortable and well equipped."
The owners live next door and were lovely, their sons took our toddler under their wings. So much to do close by, we enjoyed mountain biking, bike rides and walks with toddler, a trip to Barmouth and a walk up Cadair Idris. Ran out of time to do everything we wanted to, so will just have to come back! :-)
-
"The location is fantastic and the owners were warm and welcoming."
The cottage is warm, cozy and spacious. The river down the bottom of the garden gives a tranquil feel and we loved playing in it. The area is amazing for walks and they are all within a short drive. Plus you can nip to the coast. I'd love to go back here again.
-
"Brilliant location and a fantastic cottage."
Everything you need and more in this cottage

"We had the best week staying Hen Gelligemlyn - The Annexe and would definitely recommend to anyone that is interested in a trip away in the UK and I am also looking for another date that I can go too, we loved it that much we will definitely be back."
The location was amazing - in the mountains, quiet, peaceful and so scenic but lots of things to do a short drive away. The Annex owners- we can not be more thankful for having such a great family support us with our stay, they were there to welcome us, give us any information we needed, to re-stock the fire wood and their children were so sweet and polite the boys ended up playing football / boxing with them. A huge thank you Gavin who help direct us to a special location and was so helpful. The Annex itself is just stunning, beautifully finished with great views out of the bi-fold doors, it had everything you needed for a comfy and cosy stay - the fire for me was a highlight. Again just such a lovely week in a lovely location in a breath-taking annex!
-
"The Annex is a beautiful, spacious and modern barn conversion."
The accommodation had recently been renovated to a very high standard and had all modern requirements without compromising on the historical charm of exposed brickwork, original fireplaces and a beautiful log burner. Set in lovely grounds opposite stunning mountain views and a short amble to the bottom of the garden leads to the river. The location is excellent for driving to the local beaches at Barmouth or the many spectacular forest, river or mountains walks, starting a short drive away. The accommodation was immaculately presented and very clean. We received a welcome pack that was really thoughtful and not expected. The owners, Gavin, Sarah, Gethin & Arwyn made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. There was lots of useful information at the cottage on the best walks, they told us how to find local attractions and even how to get to the Bonfire Night celebrations in a nearby field. The neighbours who live a little way down the track were also so welcoming and friendly. The local Spar shop, a useful 5 minutes drive in the car had all we needed. We found the local community just so friendly and helpful. I very rarely revisit a holiday location but this will be one that I go back to again and again because it was so perfect... I know exactly where I will be spending my spring break!
-
"The Annexe is perfectly placed for exploration of this part of the National Park and Welsh coastline."
The facilities were excellent. The kitchen had everything you could need, the living area was spacious and comfortable with a lovely view of the garden and surrounding hills. The bedrooms were comfortable. Everything was immaculately presented. The facilities for bikes and boots were also excellent. Gavin and sarah were on hand with information on the local area. Highly recommended.
-
"We had a wonderful week in this very comfortable property, in a very well placed location for visiting attractions in Snowdonia and beyond."
The property itself was so comfortable and clean and everything was provided for by the owner's who where so very welcoming . A week is simply not enough in this wonderful location, would we return ? Most certainly.
-
"Everything about our holiday was perfect."
The cottage was lovely, warm and more than comfortable and the owners made us feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. We would recommend it completely. A lovely holiday in excellent surroundings we will certainly make return visits.
-
"We stayed here for our family holiday with our 3 year old, and 7 month old, and my in-laws came for a few days in the middle of the holiday as well."
This is a glorious place to stay - well equipped, beautifully decorated and situated (there's even a river running at the bottom of the garden - behind a fence for safety!), but most importantly the owners were so friendly and welcoming, with loads of suggestions for places to visit with the boys. The property is a fairly short drive from the nearest town, with loads of outdoor things to do really close by. We didn't have time to do everything we wanted in the week, so we'll have to visit again sometime! Would highly recommend!
-
"This is a fantastic cottage in a beautiful setting."
It's really well fitted out, but keeps the charm of the original 17th century property. The garden is very large and, with the river accessible from the property, had plenty there to entertain our children. The location is very good for exploring Snowdonia with many key attractions under 45 minutes drive time. The property owners are really approachable and helpful. Highly recommended!
-
"Nothing could have been more perfect about our holiday at Hen Gelligemlyn, from the warm welcome, the comfortable and stylish accommodation to the perfect location close to spectacular scenery, beautiful beaches and loads of opportunities for family activities."
A real gem.
