"Stay at y Cartws 2nd to 9th September 2023 Firstly, it’s fair to say that the accommodation is satisfactory, although basically equipped, with old-fashioned appliances and no dishwasher."
The cottage itself is semi-detached and the particulars carefully avoid mentioning that the other half is occupied by a small but busy dental practice. This means that there is a steady flow of patient’s vehicles coming and going every half hour or so. If the car park is full, they leave the car right by the ‘outside seating’ area. This is a factor that should be born in mind particularly for families with small children or dogs and should be made clear in the cottage particulars so that potential customers can make a decision in advance whether or not to book. The outside seating is attractively constructed from horse shoes but is extremely uncomfortable, lacking cushioning or a glass top for the table. Opposite to the cottage, there is a small walled patch of grass, along side a disused greenhouse, which would make an ideal and safe garden but it seems unlikely that the owners could be bothered to set it up and probably too mean to buy furniture for it! The owners’ 2 small terriers spend a good part of their day yapping, fairly annoyingly. They are not restricted so come around and scrounge if you are eating outside. Also, if the door is open, they will go into the house. Fortunately, our German shepherd is very amiable. Others may not be so accommodating? The most inconveniencing problem was with the cooker. The main oven had been dismantled so was unusable! One of the control knobs was missing. Only half the grill worked and the indicator that is supposed to be behind the control knob was absent so trying to set the correct heat was guess work. It was also prone to cutting off part way through food preparation. At this point, it won’t restart so your food is ruined. The hob top is also unreliable and just cuts out without warning. We contacted the owner about this on the Monday morning. He seemed concerned and promised to get his wife to call us. She didn’t! So on Wednesday we tried to call her direct. She didn’t answer so we left a comprehensive message on her voicemail. This solicited no response whatsoever. Plainly, if you have a problem at y Cartws, you’re on your own! Later, we discovered that there had been several complaints about the cooker going back over a year! There is no excuse for this. Electric cookers are not expensive or difficult to install. Clearly, the owners are more than happy to take your money but are much less willing to spend any! Without a properly working cooker, this house should not be on the market! Finally, everyone gets complaints from time to time. However, it’s the way that you handle them that counts. Ignoring them just serves to make customers even angrier!

"We had a lovely stay."
The owner let us enter the property early which was very kind. The cottage had a charming feel to it. However, the oven was a little temperamental and we had one night the children were woken up by horses returning late from a show although they found this exciting! An easy place to get to beaches overall a very pleasant place to stay.

"Heating not working until owner involved who was very helpful and pleasant."
Cooker did not work efficiently and kitchen a bit short of equipment (e.g. no grater and lack of sharp knives) Outside light not working Uncomfortable bed Cottage/furniture is tired and could do with a face-lift, however the setting is lovely and its a good base for exploring the local area
