  • "Positives - the property is excellent value, spacious and mostly well equipped."

It was clean and tidy and better equipped than many other properties I have stayed in. The wifi worked well. The garden is private, well kept, and ideal for eating outside. The owner Mr Hughes, is very friendly and approachable. The previous occupants didn’t leave when they should have and were uncontactable for several hours, but Mr Hughes went out of his way to keep me up to date with what was happening, and ensure that the property was still ready to move in that day. We finally got in just 5 hours later than planned, and Mr Hughes had left us extra goodies for the inconvenience. Yummy! Negatives with the listing description: Although it says ‘elevated position’ It doesn’t make it clear just how elevated! I didn’t know til I got there that it is such a steep incline that I could neither walk into town, nor use my mobility scooter. It was just too steep. So we had to drive even if I just needed a loaf of bread. It also states that you can see the action at zip world, but even If I used my binoculars, I could only just see a tiny portion of the zip wires, and even then I couldn’t be sure that was what I was looking at. The description says it is a 5 minute walk to Zip World. Not true. Even maps shows it as 15 minutes and that doesn’t take the steep hill into consideration. We didn’t go there anyway, but from these two comments I assumed I would be able to watch. Negatives with the property. The tv in the downstairs single bedroom didn’t work, but we never got round to saying anything. I’m sure if we had it would have been sorted straight away. The ensuite in the downstairs double was always damp - even when I got suspicious and thoroughly dried the floor before going to bed it was wet again the next day. There was a massive amount of drinking glasses in the kitchen, but not really enough plates, dishes and teaspoons. We had to keep washing up during the day, and there were no instructions for the main tv/dvd player. After several near falls and 1 fall down the step from the hall to the dining area, we ended up moving an armchair in front of the doorway to remind us to pause!. A handle on the wall, and a yellow strip on the floor may have been helpful there. These were all small property issues that didn’t really affect our enjoyment of the stay though. I would stay there again.

  • "The cottage is on a narrow road with a lot of parked cars so the two off road parking spaces were very welcome."

There's a step behind the garden gate, careful you don't trip down it! There's also a step down into the lounge, but our two year old grandson soon mastered it. Both bathrooms are downstairs, one in the ensuite double bedroom, one opposite the kitchen, with a huge corner bath and a shower cubicle. Loads of space in the lounge diner and a pretty little garden outside. One double and one single bedroom are upstairs, the second single is downstairs to the side of the stairs and is the smallest room. Easy to cook a meal in the kitchen, with enough pans, utensils etc. There wasn't really enough spare crockery to warrant running the dishwasher. We had a couple of takeaways from the yellow chip shop in Bethesda, tried their pizza, fish and chips and kebabs, all were good. There's a large Londis and a Tesco Express which meant we didn't need to go far for supplies. We had a great holiday, there are lots of places to visit nearby, and Zip World is a 5 minute drive on the other side of the main road.

About the location

BETHESDA

Bangor 6 miles; Caernarfon 10 miles.

Bethesda is a small town settled beside the River Ogwen in North Wales. Situated on the A5 between Bangor and the Snowdonia National Park, Bethesda was once a busy slate quarrying town and nowadays offers a good selection of shops and other amenities, in particular a number of chapels and pubs. The beautiful mountainous scenery of Snowdonia borders Bethesda, with the Lôn Las Ogwen cycling and walking paths skirting past. For the more adventurous, why not visit Zip World in Bethesda which is known for having Europe’s fastest and longest zip line. Capel Curig, just ten miles away, is a popular centre for walking, climbing and mountain biking, whilst Llanberis is situated at the foot of Mount Snowdon and is home to the Snowdon Mountain Railway and the National Slate Museum. Cwm Idwal is also a wonderful spot to visit, situated in northern Snowdonia – Darwin came to study the area and found tiny fossils of oceanic plant life and sea creatures in the boulders and rocks. The coastal town of Caernarfon is just a short drive away as is the beautiful Isle of Anglesey and the Anglesey Coastal Path. Visitors to the area can also explore the castles of Caernarfon and Beaumaris and the NT stately homes of Penrhyn Castle and Plas Newydd Country House and Gardens. Spend the day at one of the many traditional seaside resorts, or discover the isolated, hidden beaches on Anglesey, much of which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With spectacular scenery on the doorstep, wonderful wildlife with buzzards soaring overhead and the occasional Peregrine Falcon to be seen, and many exciting outdoor adventures to discover nearby, Bethesda is superbly located for enjoying both the coast and the countryside of stunning North Wales.
