  • "Very nice location."

Cottage is very cosy and in a lovely village. We've stayed in lots of Sykes cottages and nearly every one leaves a lovely welcoming pack..ie milk, tea, coffee and sometimes even biscuits, wine and bread. There was nothing, not even a welcome note/card. The kitchen sink smells, the dishwasher filter was clogged with fat and old food. The shower plug cover was filthy. The plughole in the downstairs loo is rusty. There was no pepper, the cutlery was mixed and matched, very poor standard. Non stick frying pans were of a very cheap quality and the non stick had been badly scratched. I read that the skirting boards were dirty...still dirty. The overall impression was that of minimal effort for maximum profit. We spent over £550 for 5 nights. Definitely not worth that. The weather was lovely and we decided to have a BBQ on the Thursday night, imagine our absolute disgust to find the BBQ rusted, filthy and full of cigarette stubs. Outrageous really and made us feel physically sick. The owners really must try a lot better and improve the cleanliness standards. I have lots of evidential pictures of you'd like them. Very disappointed indeed.

  • "The cottage was warm and smelt lovely upon opening door."

Beautiful inside with comfy furnishings. Tastefully furnished and decorated, not over cluttered with nic nacs A little lacking on mugs and cookware. There was only two decent size mugs with three smaller ones(one having a chip). Considering there is a 12 piece dishwasher more mugs could have been provided. One thing that is missing from the description of the property is that there is a downstairs toilet which is a great bonus to any property, very nearly didn't book this cottage as we thought only had one toilet We knew that there wouldn't be a welcome pack but a pint of milk would have been appreciated especially as we had travelled quite a long way We felt more clear 'lines' would be a benefit for defining parking area for each property . The shower cubicle is small and the actual shower was difficult to regulate the temperature, but on the plus side it had good pressure . As we brought our dog it would be useful to provide information on local walks and maps Overall we had a very comfortable stay

  • "The cottage is a nice cottage, but the cleanliness was very poor!"

Very bad mould around the windows, dirty skirtings, debris under lounge chair and under the chair cushions. Attention to detail was average. The provisions were also very basic, had to buy salt & pepper. Only 2 wine glasses; one was badly chipped as were cups. Stayed in a nearby cottage and it was amazing in comparison - it was immaculate, excellent quality and very well equipped and only slightly more expensive.

Beverley was great place to visit. Also came across Burnby Hall +gardens in Pocklington which was a delight. Ponds cottage was a great find.

  • "We arrived at 5 Pond View Cottages after a 6 hour journey to find we needed to remove dog mess and poo bags from the rear patio, clean the toilets and dishwasher, and vacuum throughout."

The property had clearly not been cleaned since the last tenants. This was deeply disappointing, and cast a shadow on what was a much needed brief break. We chose not to raise the matter at the time as it was late and we were tired, and just wanted it dealt with promptly. We deserve an explanation, and wish to request a partial refund to compensate for time and money spent on cleaning the property, and for the distress caused.

Thank you for the feedback, I am sorry to learn the cottage was not up to your standards. As we were not made aware of concerns at the time of your stay, we were not able to inspect the property or address your specific concerns. However, I can confirm that the cottage is thoroughly cleaned by a cleaning agency between each guest visit, which includes a full clean, changing of bedding and linens, and an inspection of the outside areas. In the event of any areas being missed, I do apologise and I shall pass your comments onto the cleaning agency. Thank you for your feedback and I hope you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

Although its not large, its really well equipped. Its also really warm and cosy despite the chilly January weather. The owner was helpful and friendly and quick to respond when I had a question. Great location for visiting our son at Hull university (20-30 mins drive) and some nice walks locally. Can also recommend the pub in the village for dinner.

  • "Better equipment/ crockery in the kitchen eg."

Salad bowl, fruit bowl, larger breakfast bowls, full size cafetiere, more coffee mugs and serving bowls. The grill on the cooker was not working properly. Luckily the weather was mild but the heating did not come on in the morning in the bedrooms or bathroom where it was chilly. Clearer instructions for using the large TV. Everything else was very good.

Thank you for your feedback, I am pleased you enjoyed your stay at Five Pond View Cottage. Regarding the kitchen equipment, the property sleeps three people and only recently had a 16 piece dining set added to the current equipment in place. However, I have now also added a fruit bowl and additional full size cafetiere. Please note, for the heating, the thermostat is left out so that the temperature or timings can be set to a level which you find comfortable, the instructions are within the welcome pack. • "Overall we had no real issues except with the gas fire on some very cold nights and these seemed to be connected to the actual gas or electricity supply when the pilot light just ceased; also the hot water in the shower was a little erratic and on two occasions it went from stable to very very hot almost to scolding heat."

The only other observation to make is that the stairs are very steep however, that all said we enjoyed the property and its location very much.

Hi Martin, We are glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your feedback. Apologies for the issue you had with the fire, after our correspondence we had assumed that all was well. However, the fire since stopped working and as a a result the appliance has been serviced and cleaned by an engineer which has rectified the issue with the pilot light. • "A beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable cottage, slightly away from the more well known tourist spots, which is very well equipped and tastefully decorated to the highest of standards."

The kitchen is large and impressive and there are charming outside seating areas to both front and rear. The owners are very friendly and respond very quickly to any queries guests might have. Brantingham is a tranquil and picturesque enclave, yet only a stone's throw from the M62 motorway, which merges with the A63 into Hull, just a few miles away. There is also a direct rail link into Hull from nearby Brough. The local pub, The Triton, is known for serving excellent meals and is exceptionally popular for Sunday lunches. For anyone who has not visited the area before I would recommend a trip to the nearby town of Beverley, administrative capital of East Yorkshire. It has a splendid minster church of cathedral proportions, is full of charming cafés and antique shops and has a lively market on Saturdays. It also has a wonderful old pub, the White Horse (locally known as 'Nellie's'), which is frozen in time. It's a real drinkers pub (no food) with a labyrinth of rooms each with its own fireplace - and is still lit by gas! All in all, a wonderful place for a self-catering stay.

Thank you for your kind and very detailed feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and do hope to welcome you back again soon. Property Owner

Very well equipped and comfortable. The building work nearby is still ongoing so parking at the property was a little difficult but once we unloaded we used the nearby village hall facilities which was much easier. The neighbours and other villagers could not have been more friendly or helpful. Lovely walks from the village and nearby. We found some very pretty villages and nearby market towns to visit.

The weather was amazing so we sat outside a lot of the time and although we didn’t use it, there was a BBQ. The Triton Inn pub was about 1 minutes walk and the food was amazing. The cottage had everything we needed and was beautifully furnished. The owners text us during the day to let us know there was a parasol in the outhouse which was amazing as the heatwave was at its peak. The pond located at the front is beautiful and has benches to peacefully sit. We would definitely stay again and recommend this beautiful cottage.

The cottage has all the facilities you could require. The stairs are a little steep but to be expected as it is a true cottage. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat where you only hear horses neigh in the field across the road, the birds singing and the occasional quack from the ducks in the nearby pond, this is the place to go. My hubby & I had a lovely break away from everything for 4 days and loved it.
