The Old Post Office

Lovely house perfect for a large group (we were 11) - lots of bedrooms and places to sit.

Good location if you want to head into York as you are 10 mins from the Park and Ride and 20 mins to the middle - be aware - the house is situated on the main road in Beningbrough so is busy. Only downside was the shower on the top floor didnt work and the shower on the middle floor had very little pressure

We had a great holiday in The Old Post Office as a family get together of 11 people age ranging from 4 to 77.

The younger ones made good use of the Hot Tub and with two rooms with a tv and games available the evenings were good for all. We used the nearby Park and Ride to get into York which we found very convenient for sightseeing. It is a shame the local pub is struggling and at our time of visit not serving food. Some items in the house needed some maintenance, the top floor shower was not functioning correctly and the bottom oven was not working. Great holiday and great weather!!

A lovely house that was ideal for our group!

Only negative I could say is the heating is a bit hard to control some rooms were really hot whilst others said they were cold.. Other than that we couldn’t fault it, the perfect base for our weekend.

We were pleased with the layout of the house and the hot tub was much appreciated.

However, there were serious maintenance issues. It was cold when we arrived with no instructions on how to turn on the heating. We got the heating on but the top floor failed to heat up and was still 13 degrees several hours later when the outside temperature was only 2 degrees. None of the radiators at the top of the house were warm. The owner was contacted and after another couple of hours a handyman arrived and bled the radiators. This improved the heating, but we later found that some of the regulators on other radiators in the house were faulty. A number of lamps in the bedrooms did not work. The lamp in the single bedroom was not plugged in and did not have a nearby socket. The large TV fell off the wall in the lounge area and landed on the floor just where a 6‑month‑old baby had been lying 10 minutes earlier.

Amazing house.

Set up really well to have lots of people staying. Having stayed in lots of houses like this before we felt the kitchen wasn’t geared up for mass cooking. There are minimal baking trays, shopping boards, serving bowls etc. would have loved kitchen roll to be provided. However this is really picky as the house was amazing. Hot tub nice and warm. Comfy clean beds. We had an amazing time celebrating a 70th birthday with our family

We visited the Old Post Office in York to celebrate Christmas as a family, and it was a wonderful experience.

Alex was incredibly helpful, making sure we were settled in and that we had everything we needed. We had such a lovely time and would absolutely love to come back.

Plenty of room for us and the kitchen was well equipped. In a great location just outside York with lovely walks nearby. Really appreciated the owners making contact by WhatsApp to check everything was ok - was reassuring to know they'd be easy to contact if there was a problem ( we had no problems). Thank you!

The property is spacious, making it perfect for a family getaway. Its location is ideal, 20 minute drive or bus ride into York. The owners were responsive and helpful throughout are stay. The house itself was comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. Overall I would highly recommend The Old Post Office ☺️

We thoroughly enjoyed our family holiday - layout and facilities lent itself to three generations, a family friend and a dog all finding ways to enjoy a holiday together that suited them.

Great location for York, Dales etc. Good interaction with owner too. Note that there is parking for three cars at the property, so some of us had to park on the road outside.

It's one of only a few properties with space for everyone at the dinner table, so eating together is perfect. The kitchen is decently-equipped too with a nice big range cooker. The hot-tub is a nice big one also - perfect for 4 adults for a leisurely evening, or lots more for a quick dip.

House was well equipped, in excellent condition and comfortably housed three families with children from toddlers to teens. Location was excellent for local attractions.

Lovely property, ideal for large groups.

Large enough kitchen/dining area for us to all eat together and a couple of reception/tv rooms so the kids were happy they could watch their own stuff. Loads of bedrooms and very comfortable. We got the bus from pretty much outside the property and were in York in 15/20 minutes. Also went to the Dawnay Arms which is no more than 5 minutes walk away, great food and really friendly staff. Would highly recommend this property.

The place was amazing. The place had everything you need for a stay. Everyone was pleased with the facilities on offer. I would highly recommend the pub over the road as well for both food and drink. Thank you

We had the pleasure of staying here for our hen do weekend.

This house is beautiful, plenty of places to sit comfortable. Lovely big kitchen with 2 fridges for all the drinks and food, extra long table for all to sit at. The bedrooms are just as amazing, with very comfy beds. Hot tub was lovely and hot, great place to sit outside with the girls even those that don’t want in the tub. 5 minutes from hickory smoke house, 15 mins in taxi to the centre of York, plenty of Ubers available to get us there. The house was lovely and clean from the very top to the bottom. We thank you for letting us celebrate our hen in your beautiful house. If you’re looking for a place to stay for a bunch of friends/family or even ones that allows hen do parties like ours, This house has everything you will need for your stay.

Went with our children and our grandkids for our 50th anniversary.

Were extremely pleased with accommodation. Bedrooms worked nicely with our requirements and beds give a good nights sleep. Pillows were a big hit and we all know how pillows are very personal to most of us. Daughter-in law ordered some the next day! Little extras (tea, coffee, milk etc) very welcome. The pub down the road has a really good steak night offer, only a few mins walk away. Location of property is excellent for buses into York and close to many options to keep the kids happy, especially near Tesco. Owners keep in touch, very friendly and helpful. Couldn't have chosen a better option, you need to try it!

The Old Post Office at Shipton by Bening brough is a lovely well appointed home from home that provides everything that you need for a large group of mixed ages.

We spent a wonderful weekend celebrating my birthday. The comfortable beds were most appreciated. A definite recommendation for a family get-together.

We had a great weekend celebrating and felt very comfy in the beds and decor lovely too. The kitchen was great for our group and to sit together round the big table was a bonus. Would definitely return.

The post office was the perfect getaway for our large family group of 13 from 77 to 2 years old!

It was situated in a lovely village and close to the bus into York, a park a short walk away entertained the children and the hot tub in its own gated courtyard was much appreciated by all. The kitchen was equipped to suit our needs and it was lovely to have a table big enough to accommodate us all together. The range of bedrooms allowed us to fit everyone in our group, without any squabbles about who was sharing. The beds were very comfortable and after our travels around the local area to Beningborough house, York, Flip out, Hickory’s, the local farm shop and more, we were guaranteed a good nights sleep. There were some lovely local walks which our dog enjoyed too and it was appreciated that we could bring him with us to join in the fun. The house was clean and beautifully presented with nods to its history in the post related decor and the layout was great for a large group. The separate snug was a bit of a retreat and the living room had enough seating for us to enjoy time together. The owners Alex and Amber were very responsive and communicated well. We would highly recommend The Post Office as a place to stay and hope to do so again in the future.

The Old Post Office was a perfect place for a multi generational (83 yrs - 4 months) family weekend.

The house was spotlessly clean, well equipped, beautifully decorated- reflecting the building’s history and it had a good layout. It was great to all be able to sit around the large kitchen table and eat, drink, chat, laugh and sing together. The outside hot tub area was excellent- it was nice and private, protected from the elements and a real sun trap. The additional seating there meant we could all be together outside. The house is in an ideal location to pop into York using the park and ride or there is a direct bus.We went to the Dawney Arms across the road for a lovely meal with great service. Alex the manager was also great at ensuring everything was going well for us during our stay. I would highly recommend this house- we had a wonderful, memorable weekend there!
