  • "A lovely property and a great location - perfect for a good walk to town and back!"

Excellent facilities and good sized rooms. Just one or two things in the kitchen that could have been a little cleaner, but not a major issue for us. We would certainly book Linskill Cottage again!

  • "Great space."

Rugs filthy and back door mat was soaking wet when we arrived. Love the quality of furniture, comfort of the beds etc Could do with a fire stick or similar for the TV so we could sign into our amazon/Netflix accounts or similar. Well stocked kitchen and appreciated the BBQ. Could do with a coffee machine. Would come back if we were in the area. Really appreciated the car parking space and proximity to town.

Off road parking a real benefit as it's a busy road. Hot tub and barbecue in the yard at the back perfect for a summer holiday!

lovely cottage I have stayed here before and it was as nice as I remembered. Nice and clean and cozy and a short stroll in to Whitby. The cottage has everything you could ask for and even a hot tub ! The welcome basket was a nice surprise. I would highly recommend

Really well located for getting everywhere too. The beds were all comfortable other than the double which was very hard! The kitchen was really well equipped, the decoration was lovely and coast themed. The welcome basket was a lovely touch too. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend or stay here again!

Very comfortable. We will return. Just one criticism, we feel it would be better with a shower cubicle in the bathroom upstairs, instead of a shower over the bath.

  • "Linskill cottage was brilliant."

Was lovely to arrive and have a welcome sign on the chalkboard and a basket of essentials left for us too! The cottage was more than big enough for our family of 4 adults and 2 teens. It was a short walk into town but all uphill coming back... The X4 bus runs from Whitby train station to just around the corner so that was useful and saved our legs. The hot tub was a real treat, very easy to use and comfortably fit 4 people in. Would definitely recommend this cottage to others.

  • "Lovely cottage in a really great location."

The cottage was really spacious and very well equipped. Really nice large rooms throughout equipped with everything that you need for a comfortable stay. The hot tub was great and got a lot of use. In terms of location it is great as out of town but a comfortable walk into the centre so great for access to local shops, bars and restaurants. We had a fantastic stay and would definitely go back.

  • "Overall nice property but several things need attention to make this a 5 star property as listed."

Firstly the door to the main bathroom doesn't close at all as it is warped, downstairs bathroom doesn't lock, paint/arcetrave peeling off wall directly about bed in main bedroom, ensuite toilet cistern sticks on intermittently. Cleanliness in ensuite could be better, walls dirty and grout mouldy. Only 3 normal sized glass tumblers in kitchen, which don't match . Disappointed no welcome pack as advertised, reason is stated as due to covid but not sure how this is relevant since items are wrapped and shop bought?! Positives were hot tub which looked very new and was great, also good location. If the above issues were addressed we'd stay again but as it currently stands we wouldn't unfortunately.

  • "Generally all was fine, but the back garden/yard was considerably smaller than I expected."

You can BBQ, but there’s no room to eat outside. However, the hot tub was very welcome to come back to after a long walk.

  • "A very good week in Linskill Cottage that was located well for exploring both Whitby and the surrounding areas along the East Coast."

Comfortable beds and house was large enough to accommodate our family of 4. The hot tub was a lovely addition after being out daily to unwind in the evening and destress. There were a few cobwebs in the kitchen area that were a little disappointing to find but all in all the cleanliness of the house for its size was reasonable. We would definitely return as we enjoyed our week at the property.

  • "The location was fantastic and encouraged us to walk into town each day."

The location was peaceful. The hot tub meant our evenings were relaxed before sitting down to chill out and watch TV. The hot tub was clean. Everything had been thought of that could be needed which made the stay feel home from home. Cooking was a pleasure as the kitchen was brilliant therefore we could be together and enjoy the cooking. We have spent many holidays in Whitby and have stayed in various accommodations but this was certainly the best.

  • "It shoud be pointed out that the property is not suitable for those with walking difficulties/mobility issues unless they are prepared to drive or get a taxi."

The property is a 15 minute walk downhill to the bridge across the river, I could never have walked back up, it was a case of drive or have a taxi. Available parking in Whitby is a longish walk from the main areas.

  • "The cottage was very nice."

We were disappointed that the racks on the barbeque were left dirty and the bins were full from the previous visitors. Also we did ring and query the hot tub as it looked very murky and scumy. We were told someone local would call but they didn't and we were not happy to use it. The hot tub was one of the reasons for booking that particular property so we were not pleased. Visitors should be made aware of the last time the water was tested so that they can be confident it is safe to use.

  • "Really great holiday and lovely house."

Only downside we had was being unable to use the hot tub for 3 days due to unserviceability. This was one of the main selling points of the house when booked for our grandchildren. I understand how/when items break but when the gentleman arrived to fix the day after reporting he stated that he thought this should have been sorted by now as he had been out several times!

The property

A spacious cottage in historic Whitby, within easy walking distance of a sandy beach, shops, restaurants and thriving harbour.

What a treat – this property boasts an enclosed yard with a hot tub!

A fun and wonderfully relaxing way to unwind together at the end of a day’s sightseeing. The interior is smart and furnished to a high standard.

With three bedrooms, there’s plenty of room here for a large family or couples’ getaway.

Easily accessible by car, train or on foot and with private parking available outside the property, Linskill is a real gem of a place.

It is also a house with literary heritage, having belonged to Whitby-born author Mary Linskill whose writing features depictions of Yorkshire’s stunning landscapes and scenery. The house opens to a welcoming reception hall, from which leads the sitting room with open fire and superb feature fireplace – so cosy in the cooler months, especially after a bracing coastal walk.

Snuggle up, listen to some vinyl from the house collection and feel the stresses of everyday life slip away!

There’s also a TV, DVD, CD and selection of books to help you unwind in the quieter moments. Step into the kitchen and you’ll be impressed by the large range cooker and dining area with doors that lead outside.

This is a fantastic space for informal dining, chatting to the cook, or simply enjoying your favourite pre-dinner tipple – in summer, it’s so handy for the BBQ. A shower room with shower, basin and WC completes the ground floor. Make your way upstairs to discover three lovely bedrooms.

Firstly, a large master bedroom with king size bed, TV, wardrobe and dressing table, plus an en-suite shower room with shower cubicle, basin and WC. A second double bedroom with TV offers a comfortable brass bed with cheery soft furnishings echoing the colours of the moors.

Finally, the twin room has two full size single beds and is decorated with tranquil accents of duck egg blue. The house bathroom is stylish, with a deep, free-standing bath – don’t forget to bring your favourite bubble bath and champagne for ultimate relaxation!

This delightful Whitby cottage is within a short walking distance of Whitby town centre.

On the way, call off at nearby Pannett Park – the kids will love the playground – for a leisurely stroll through well-maintained gardens and onto Whitby Museum and Art Gallery.

Or, for something completely different, brave The Dracula Experience and learn how Whitby Abbey inspired Bram Stoker’s gothic masterpiece. A day trip on a traditional steam locomotive from Whitby to Grosmont and on to Pickering takes you through the glorious North Yorkshire Moors – an unforgettable experience.

These stunning landscapes are a walker’s paradise, especially in summer when the moors are clad in swathes of purple heather.

Stay at Linskill cottage and, like its former owner Mary Linskill, you too are sure to fall in love with Whitby and its splendid environs.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.
