  • "Great location with plenty of on-street parking available close to the property."

While the property theoretically has off-street parking, it is not clearly marked (as claimed in the welcome guide) and couldn't be used. The boiler was somewhat temperamental, which nearly led to a cold shower or two. Resolving those two issues would move the property from Good to Great.

  • "This is our 2nd stay at this property and we love it - beautiful house and great location However, we were disappointed this time to find that it wasn’t very clean."

Floors not swept/hoovered and we needed to wash kitchen equipment before we used it. Kitchen was really poorly equipped with small pans etc. Extremely poor welcome pack - catering sachets of milk, couple of teabags and catering biscuits. Probably the worst we’ve ever experienced. We paid over £800 for the week, milk in the fridge and maybe a nice loaf would have been a bit more thoughtful and personalised. Having said that we had a wonderful stay, and this wouldn’t put us off staying for a 3rd time.

  • "Generally okay and in a nice location but was unfortunately marred by a few issues which were raised 3 times with Sykes during our 4 night stay but, apart from the dishwasher, remained unresolved and to date no apology has been received."

    1. The sheets on one of the beds had not been changed from the previous occupant - not pleasant. 2. Dishwasher was grubby with broken glass in the base. 3. Two of the 3 saucepans were stained and marked and really not up to standard, so much so we decided to eat out rather than cook in. 4. The switch on the shower to change from fixed to handheld was broken so we could only use the fixed shower. 5. We had to take our rubbish home with us as the dustbin was packed full from previous occupants - again not pleasant.

  • "Lovely cottage in Alnwick town centre."

Only negative comments were that the car park space was too tight to use when another car was in the adjoining space and the church bells opposite which rang every 15 minutes from 6.15am!

  • "We really enjoyed staying in this holiday home, it was a great central location for us and Northumberland is such a great place."

The house itself was comfortable and quirky. A few things could be done to improve it further- hooks on the bedroom/bathroom doors for towels, hand soap provided in the bathroom/kitchen and a pint of fresh milk on arrival would have been lovely. We did not use the parking space in the back alley as it was too tight to manoeuvre into and there was no access from the space to the rear of the property- the listing could be updated with this info.

  • "This is a lovely property, we enjoyed our stay and would even consider going back as it is in an excellent location with a short walk down to the village."

As said very clean and comfortable however they’ve missed providing the small things that are classed as essential in our opinion. There was no hand wash or a small soap bar in the bathroom and only 1 toilet roll (not expecting a 6 pack but at least 1 spare and we buy more if needed) plus no bins in the bedroom. It would be good to highlight that the 2nd double bedroom had no place to put any clothes apart from a few hooks on the wall but I know space is tight in this room. Also that the church bells ring every 15 minutes starting early in the morning at 6am, I wasn’t aware of this and had a poor sleep the first night due to this and had to go buy ear plugs the next day but for those with young children this may not be possible.

Thanks for this helpful feedback (sorry for the delay in replying) - we'll take action to rectify the issues you mention, where we can. Property Owner

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
