Absolutely amazing property.

The views across the Sound were stunning. The silence was golden all we heard were the cries of the curlews as they flew past our window. If you are wanting a property to escape for a week or two this is ideal. Already recommended it to some of our friends.

A beautiful property in a lovely setting.

Hoy was peaceful with some fascinating places to visit, but minimal tourists. The house is well equipped with everything you might need and very comfortable. Lovely welcome pack with delicious shortbread, prosecco and a cute puffin keyring amongst other things. The garden is walled / fenced, but our lurcher would have been able to get over the walls given half the chance. We really enjoyed our stay and would certainly consider returning if visiting the area again.

House well equipped, had all we needed. Interesting days exploring Hoy and the greater Orkney and comfortable nights watching the birds in the bay.

One of the best holiday properties we've ever stayed in.

The kitchen was exceptionally equipped, and the beds were very comfortable. We loved the large lounge and view over the sea / bay. The provision for dogs was so thoughtful too. It was a very warm place even though it was pretty bad weather when we arrived. The open plan upstairs worked well. We enjoyed sitting outside at the back in the sun listening to the birds.

What a wonderful place the Steading is!

We booked on behalf of ourselves and our Swedish friends and we were all enchanted with the place. The view is perfect at any time and you could just while away the hours looking at it but there's far too much to do on Orkney for that. The house is beautiful and the layout excellent. The kitchen is well equipped. The bed in the second bedroom is not a very big double so one of us had to use the single bed in the lower floor bedroom but that was the only issue. The kitchen is very well equipped.

A wonderful holiday cottage with beautiful views.

Thank you so much for the very generous and high quality welcome pack. Thank you for sharing your home and enabling us to visit Hoy/ South Walls along with our two dogs who loved the garden! The only reason for the slightly lower score on maintenance was the struggle we had closing one of the doors that appears to need some maintenance, a loose connection in the TV remote and a sliding toilet seat! These are minor issues and only mentioned so that you are made aware, they didn’t detract from our stay which really was great. We look forward to visiting Hoy/ South Walls again and would certainly love to stay at The Steading which is such a high quality cottage.

Exceptional property on Hoy.

Spectacular views and so much detail considered in ensuring your stay was comfortable. The welcome pack was much appreciated too. We were able to explore the island and did some great coastal walks and enjoyed visiting Scaoa flow museum and the many heritage centres on the island. Thank you for sharing this beautiful house.

Great location looking out to sea.

Very peaceful on quiet lane with good walks from the house and nearby - including to Hoy’s only shop. And pub! The house is very light and clean. Well equipped and everything worked. We’d happily go back.

Superb position and a very well equipped and comfortable house.

We really enjoyed staying in this house.

Our favourite thing was sitting on the comfy chairs/settee looking out of the big picture glass window that runs along the front of the house. We loved the tranquility. It is probably one of the best equipped houses we have stayed in. It had everything from towels for the dog to darts! It was fantastic that there were so many books on Orkney to read and we loved all of the artwork. Beds were comfy and the showers were powerful. Wifi not as fast as at home but good enough. It was great having the big utility room after walking or being at the beach. Some tips for visitors: - the local shop has a bit of everything but neither of the hotels in Longhope are doing food at the moment. There is a warm welcome in the bar at the Royal hotel though. The butchers in Stromness is amazing (Fletts). Also try some Westray shortbread biscuits they are addictive. The Scapa Flow museum and the Lifeboat museum are worth a visit. Thanks to the owners for sharing their lovely house with us.

The Steading has the WOW factor just absolutely stunning in the most perfect setting overlooking sea.

The attention to detail in the house is incredible and decor just above and beyond. Can’t recommend it highly enough just amazing !!!

Amazing house.

The advert does not do it justice. Beautifully presented by the house keeper. It is probably the best appointed house we’ve ever stayed in. Everything you could possibly need is provided. Beds are super comfy. Kitchen modern. The views are breathtaking and the South Walls community incredibly welcoming. Would stay there again without doubt.

Had a lovely week in Hoy.

The steading was perfect. High quality and has everything you need. The very generous hamper was a lovely surprise. Best holiday let accommodation we have stayed at.

Well appointed with everything we required for our visit and some lovely homely touches.Hoy is a beautiful island and worth visiting at any time of year, the log burner finished off the day nicely.Always something to see and do, Lifeboat Museum was very moving, enjoyable swim at Rackwick Beach with the Dogs.Thanks for a truly memorable Holiday.

Brilliant house on the Isle of South Walls, connected to Hoy by a causeway.

(By car from Scotland, you take one ferry to Stromness, then another to Lyness) Large house with comfortable beds and a HUGE bathtub. (Yes the hot water heater holds enough water to fill the tub, but it takes an hour or two for water heater to fill and reheat) There are two twin beds, downstairs next to the laundry room, which has a pet bed and a high chair. There is a television in the downstairs bedroom, as well as one upstairs in the front room. We found the television upstairs too uncomfortable an angle to watch, so we used the downstairs television. Netflix is available. The view is magnificent, but the property is on a road and there is at least one neighbor right next door, so don't assume it's isolated. The couch and chairs are comfortable and it's quiet. The fridge us a good size, but you have to make sure you shove the door closed properly every time you use it. The oven and hob are a bit tricky, but you get the hang of them after awhile. There is no microwave. Large variety of dishes, cookery and mugs to choose from. Fanrastic gift box. The cleaning lady is very nice and helpful.

This is a beautiful property with wonderful views out to the Sound.

An ideal place for a chilling out holiday away from the main touristy spots. Despite that, Hoy has a lot to offer and the new Scapa Flow Museum is really excellent as is the Longhope Lifeboat Museum. Some of us did the walk to the Old Man of Hoy on a beautiful day with the rest of us taking advantage of the wonderful coffee shops. The house is everything it is crack up to be, excellent facilities, very comfortable with a great treat of Orkney goodies to welcome us. Everything to a very high standard. Thank you...

The steading is by far the best place we have stayed in, beautiful decor and furnishings, the comfort, quality and welcome pack were brilliant. Location of property is beautiful even on a dull or wet day, property has an amazing view which can be enjoyed in all weather. Kitchen has everything you could need, very comfy beds and beautiful bathrooms. Great place to base your Orkney stay but remember that the mainland is a short ferry to see the main touristy attractions. Our dog loved the comfy bed provided and the downstairs utility facilities were great for post walk clean ups. He especially loved charging across the road and jumping in the sea... Daily!! Very relaxing stay if you want to get away from it all and switch off. Highly recommended property.

Fantastic property, so comfortable and beautiful, literally everything we could have wanted was catered for and everything we didn’t even think of.

The location is fabulous and peaceful with amazing views.
