    Cosy, clean, everything you needed was provided. The owner was on hand to answer any questions quickly . We went in winter but would be amazing to sit on the large balcony when the weather is nice overlooking the river .

  • "Well what an amazing property we loved every minute of our stay."

    Amazing location the cottage had everything you needed even down to dog treats and dog towel. 4 amazing pubs with great food and entertainment all within a short walk, all very dog friendly. Shiv the owner was such a nice man and should be very proud of the cottage. We will be definitely returning as this is the best cottage we have stayed at. Thank you Shiv

  • "Just back from a weeks stay at River Cottage, which we had booked primarily due to its location and we were not disappointed."

    Nestled between the river Trent and canal, this Grade 2 listed cottage was a delight to stay in. Parking space was perfect for our hatchback. The cottage has been beautifully restored and decorated, with higher ceilings than we expected (a relief when your other half is 6’5), it offers pretty much all home comforts. The king size bed was extremely comfortable (can’t comment on the singles as we didn’t use them), shower pressure excellent (which matters after a long days walking), and as others have commented, the kitchen was very well equipped. The balcony to the rear overlooking the river was another big draw for us where we enjoyed drinks when the weather permitted and to top it all off, The Navigation pub a couple of minutes walk away (independent, family run freehouse with excellently kept beer, friendly staff and locals) was a pleasure to frequent. As for the 24 hr local busses (20 mins into Derby one way, and just under an hour to Loughborough the other) which run every 15 mins during the day, half hourly after 8pm, getting around and not being reliant on the car was very easy. Looking forward to booking River Cottage again next year!

  • "This is the perfect cottage in a lovely location."

    Was so nice to be able to bring our dog with no extra charges and little treats left to welcome. The whole town is so dog friendly, pubs even allow dogs in restaurants . The Navigator inn especially, food good, especially Pie Night. I was a bit worried about steps down to river but there is a fireguard that fits perfectly across gap. Neighbours friendly and gave recommendations places to visit. The cottage is large and the shower is lovely, there is everything you need for a perfect stay. 4 pubs on the doorstep brilliant Indian restaurant and lovely walks along the canal. One of the best Sykes cottages we have stayed in. Thankyou Shiv x

  • "This was a lovely cottage in a great location."

    Tastefully decorated and comfortable. Lovely views of the river Trent. Shiv was really helpful and responsive, and left brownies and milk in the fridge to welcome us. There are lots of good pubs within walking distance, and the canal path is right outside for walks. Would be happy to stay again

  • "We had a four night break in River Cottage."

    We very much enjoyed our time there. The cottage was very clean and tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Also well equipped with everything you could need. There are some lovely canal walks to be had from the front door and there are several nice pubs nearby. Would definitely stay again.

  • "A lovely cottage, with exceptional River Trent views."

    Although the aspect from the road is unpromising, all the rooms, and terrace, on the other side of the house enjoy the views and the sun for much of the day. Don’t be put off! The house is surprisingly spacious and comfortably furnished and the central heating keeps it comfortable on cold nights. The views from the cottage are of the river. Just across the road is the Trent & Mersey Canal towpath with pubs close by. The owner is available to contact and very friendly and helpful. We voted River Cottage somewhere to come back to.
