  • "Fabulous little home from home."

Chris is a wonderful host who supplied an amazing welcome pack of fresh local produce. I do miss my early morning walk along the canal. I know there was a dish washer but a tea towel would have been useful. In the few days we were there with our dog we went to Manchester, Liverpool and the Anderton Boat lift. I would love to come back here and do some more exploring.

  • "Fantastic week at Millie’s Cottage."

Location is great for wanders and longer, more challenging hikes. Being by the canal is special, as even a trip to the pub/shops/takeaways is fun. The cottage is extremely well-equipped, well set up and was very well-maintained. Chris is a fabulous host. The info you get in the hostfully app is the best I’ve seen in a holiday let, but made even better by his welcome and recommendations. We had a great week and would love to come back,

  • "Fantastic little cottage perfect for canal walks to local shops and cafes, as well ideal for the west side of the Peak District."

We found the cottage extremely comfortable - with all the essentials you expect such as good mattresses, comfy sofas, a decent shower and a well equipped kitchen. It also had thoughtful touches for extra comfort, like lovely scented soap, fleecy rugs, summer weight duvets (thank you) and extra comforters, plus a choice of pillow thicknesses. There was plenty of room in the house (there were 3 of us) and the garden/seating area is lovely. And the welcome hamper was amazing - all local produce that was absolutely delicious.

It was the perfect location for us with the background of the beautiful Penines. The cottage provided all we needed and was spotlessly clean. The owner was so helpful and available at all times. We took our dog and he enjoyed it too! We wouldn’t hesitate to visit again and would highly reccomend this lovely cottage.

  • "We had a perfect holiday in the cottage ."

The location was very close to our relatives so we saw a lot of them and the local attractions. The cottage was extremely comfortable and cozy for the end of January. We had been concerned we would be cold but even the rain held off! On street parking was always available and other residents in the houses attached respected that and were friendly. The landlord was extremely helpful in assuring every need was met and we received local advice and generous gifts of local products to welcome us. We willl definitely be returning to Millie's Cottage next year!

  • "The very nice owners were there to greet us when we arrived and they explained the workings of the cottage, TV, heating system etc and they provided an excellent welcome pack of local produce."

The cottage is in a glorious location, ideal for walking down the towpaths to the local towns and villages and their shops, bars and eateries in either direction. The cottage is very comfortable warm and quiet with very friendly and approachable neighbours. It is ideal for easy driving access to local walks on the moors or the trans Pennine way with some spectacular views from the top of the hills if you are adventurous or for gentler strolls around some of the many reservoirs. Would recommend this cottage to anyone but especially to dog owners.

About the location

GREENFIELD

Uppermill 1 mile; Oldham 7 miles; Huddersfield 15.5 miles.

Greenfield is one of seven villages nestling amongst the 18,000 acres of moorland hills, open fields and scenic valleys that comprise the Saddleworth area. These Pennine villages have a wool spinning and agricultural heritage dating back to the Industrial Revolution, but today Saddleworth has evolved into an attractive South Pennine and Peak District National Park area with breathtaking views and glorious stone-built buildings. Greenfield is a thriving little village with a good range of amenities, and well placed to explore the South Pennine region. Greenfield has Saddleworth’s largest park in Churchill Playing Fields, which includes a skateboard park and tennis courts. It also has the canal marina and Saddleworth’s train station, which is an extremely popular stopping off point on the ‘Real Ale Rail Trail’ and offers easy access into Manchester for a city visit. Live entertainment at local pubs includes folk, rock, jazz and classical guitar concerts, and the ‘Off the Rails’ comedy club.
Saddleworth is home to a wide range of festivals and community events, the most famous of which is the Whit Friday Band contest, which attracts the UK’s and Europe’s top brass bands and was the backdrop to the film ‘Brassed Off’. Another well loved film ‘Yanks’ was set in Saddleworth and is also commemorated by a major weekend festival.
Almost every weekend features a visitor attraction, be it a canal festival, vintage car rally, the Saddleworth Rushcart procession, real ale festival, morris dancing competition or the well regarded Farmer’s Market. Nearby attractions include Dovestones Reservoir for boating and walks, and the Castleshaw Valley with an interpretation trail for a Roman fort, the highest of a series built on the Roman military road from Chester to York.
