  • "Ash House, is the perfect location if you are visiting Alton Towers."

We knew it was on street parking, however, it took forever even with the kids help to unload the car. This was mainly due to having to cross the busiest road back and forth with our belongings. Once inside the property, we found it had everything we needed and was big enough for 2 adults and 3 children and the little ones loved the bedroom in loft. In summary, we had a good stay, although would probably not return due to the parking and difficulty unloading / loading the car.

  • "The property was fabulous and is in a fantastic location."

Exactly what we were looking for. Communication from the host was excellent and he sent us a really useful information pack via email in advance, which was much appreciated. There were also some very kind supplies provided on arrivals which was very kind and a lovely thing to do. As I say the stay was really great and the only part that caused us concern was the access to one side in the loft bedroom between the narrow stair access. The loft room.is split in two and the left hand side (when assending the stairs) of the loft bedroom (1 single bed to each side which was split by the staircase) led straight into the void of the top of the staircase and even although there was a stairgate provided, due to the layout it could be used slightly further down the stairs. This did still leave the real possibility that the children could drop down a few steps into the top of the narrow stairwell. We improvised by moving the bedside cabinet to block of the drop area and put the eldest (5 year old) of the two children into the bed located in that side of the loft room.

  • "Spacious and comfortable property."

We enjoyed the many local walks and eateries, particularly the Ramblers Retreat, Denstone Hall cafe and farm shop and the Talbot pub. Hetty's tea room at Froghall Wharf, a delightful cafe, we had coffee and cakes even though closed (Wednesdays). Thank you to the owners for the welcome pack and quick fix with a TV problem. We managed to park in the road opposite but loading and unloading was tricky re traffic on a bend, slope and weather. The property was well equipped, and the beds were comfy. Some furnishings changes have been made since the photos on Sykes' website were taken eg chimney breast is now dark blue. Some cleanliness issues but overall a very enjoyable week.

  • "Very nice property, very well equipped and dog friendly."

The small enclosed courtyard was particularly useful for that. Whilst it has no parking, there is no problem in parking in the lane opposite, (we have a large vehicle), and given the position of the cottage, we would have chosen to park there anyway. We weren't there for Alton Towers, but it is very nearby, (you can just about hear the Roller Coaster screams!), but very convenient for the Peak District. An enjoyable and comfortable stay.

  • "From arrival to departure our stay was all that we hoped for."

To begin with the welcome pack was very much appreciated. The property was lovely and ideal for the four of us and the dog (enclosed garden meant the dog was safe to wander). There was a problem with the TV when we arrived, we contacted our hosts straight away that evening and by the following day they were sorting it (not as if we were planning to watch much TV anyway). Alton is ideally situated for Alton Towers, the local pubs are good, Denstone Hall Farm Shop and Ramblers Retreat Cafe are worth a visit and there are a few local walks which we took too. Although the parking is over the road and at the time there were some roadworks there we still managed to find parking each time it came for us to park.

It was the perfect place for the 6 of us, the bathroom was lovely and spacious and on entering the house was lovely and warm-something that was definitely noted as usually when you are going to stay somewhere you met with cold on entering. There were plenty of utensils-everything you could ever need, except I couldn’t find a blender. Plenty of towels left for us. We were given a lovely bottle of wine and biscuits which I thought was so sweet and thoughtful. Will definitely be returning!

Brilliant host, who contacted us early on the day we were due to arrive to let us know about a power cut after the overnight storm, he updated us with the situation during the day to avoid us getting to the cottage before electricity was back on. We agreed to delay arrival for a day and he kindly arranged to get our grocery delivery collected and refridgerated as necessary and a generous refund for the delayed delivery. Great base to explore the surrounding area and lovely local pubs within walking distance. Really near for Alton towers visits. It had a great location, in the lovely village of Alton, with a pub (serving great food) & shop around the corner. It's a 5 minute drive from Alton Towers too. The house itself was very clean, welooming & accommodating. It had everything we needed & also included a welcome of some food bits & milk - which was very handy arriving at night time. There was wood provided for the open fire, lots of games/books/dvds, and even a playstation & games in the upstairs room. We had to call the number provided to ask for assistance near the end of our stay, and the phone was answered promptly and dealt with, we were even offered a later check out stay due to the issue. Lots of little extra touches making it very homely. Beautiful area, with lots to do around, literally 10 mins from Alton towers. As stated, there is a busy road to cross to get to car, as you have to park opposite the house, but we did it with 2 children, an infant, pushchair and 2 dogs with no problems at all! I cannot praise this property highly enough, we will definitely be returning.

We love the location, right in the heart of Alton, close to the Bull's Head and the local store. It has all the comforts of home, including comfy beds, a real fire, fully equipped kitchen, games, books and DVDs for cosy nights in. Note the third bedroom is accessed via stairs within the second bedroom – great for families, but might compromise the privacy of groups of friends. Parking is across the road, but this was no problem. There's a washing machine and drier in the garage, which was handy. Alton is a nice little village, worth visiting for more than the Towers. It's worth stopping at Denstone Farm Shop to fill the larder.

They also left us a welcome pack which included a bottle of wine, which after forgetting to pack any and having a nightmare day with kids before getting there, was a real life saver. Very close to Alton towers (5 mins drive maximum), and 15 mins from peak wildlife park which was a great day out with the kids.
