"Dishwasher door faulty )as it was."
2 years ago) and took skin off my shin. Oven filthy as were most of the pans/trays. We had too clean most things before we were comfortable using them. My common complaint - do Sykes ever check the property and review the accommodation.
Thank you for the feedback, with regards to the dishwasher, I have no idea what you are talking about and I will investigate this asap. The oven is cleaned regularly and the oven was replaced since your last visit, so I will investigate. When guests report issues to us during their stay, we respond promptly. However, we can only fix them if we know about them. If you had made us aware of these issues during your stay using the contact details in the flat or via Sykes, we could have rectified the problem swiftly for you. Property Owner

"Mostly fine."
The flat is by and large comfortable and warm. The living room suffers a bit from the hole in the bottom left of the window frame and the radiator being a little less efficient as the rest of the flat (possibly just needs bleeding). The bedrooms were nice and warm, beds very comfortable. Kitchen well stocked, especially crockery. There was a nice package of milk, doughnuts and wine waiting for us, a very nice touch.

"Brilliant stay at Southgate."
Such a central location. Apartment very roomy and lots of space for us and our 3 children. Great kitchen with all the appliances you would require and more. John even sorted out the collection of our daughters backpack that we had left behind! Thanks again would definitely return.
-
"Great accommodation, very spacious and had everything we needed."
Conveniently situated for a stroll through Buxton or getting out into the Peak District.
-
"Great location, great welcome pack BUT NO TOILET PAPER!"
Apologies regarding the toilet paper as this is normally supplied, the cleaners must have simply forgotten it. Property Owner

"The apartment was perfect for us."
Ii is close to the town centre and to restaurants so we did not need to use the car in the evenings. The property was clean and had all the equipment we needed. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well. The welcome pack was great as we arrived well after the shops had closed and it was good not to have to go out early the next day to get milk, tea, etc. No negative points, except we wished we had been able to stay longer!

"We really enjoyed our stay at the apartment."
The beds and sofas were very comfortable! Which was obviously a huge bonus, as a lot of the time these are the things that let a place down. It was great the have a washing machine and airer to use. If we were to come to Buxton again we would consider staying here again. It’s close to all amenities and the welcome pack was wonderful, thank you! I would just like to mention that the cooker needs some TLC. My husband tried to clean out the air vent in the oven just above the door opening, it doesn’t seem to stop circulating and was gunked up with dust, dirt and grime and in need of a good clean. Also the shower & screen was also in need of a good clean around the seals of the shower controls etc. Sorry to end on negativity but feel it’s good for the owners to know.

"A really nice basement flat virtually in the heart of Buxton."
Very clean with all the facilities you could possibly require. Chilly in Buxton in November but the flat was cosy and warm at all times. Five minutes walk at most to the centre of Buxton with plenty of places to eat and shop plus the attractions of the pavilion, gardens and opera house. Off road parking was a boon. Nice touches in providing milk, tea, coffee, sugar and delicious chocolate cake. Would highly recommend this property and hopefully stay there again sometime.

"We had a lovely stay at 1 Southgate."
The flat was lovely and warm and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was spotless and was well equipped and the bathroom was equally clean. John seemed very friendly and helpful when I queried one or two minor things with him. Two suggestions for improvements: 1) It would be helpful to have a clothes airer in the house for any wet clothes when visitors come back from walking in poor weather. 2) Although the stairway to the flat is very well lit, the lighting at the front of the house is very poor so it would be good to have a security light or something at the front to prevent accidents.

"We loved staying here, the apartment was beautifully furnished and well equipped."
Parking was a bit of a pain, rarely any space in the shared parking area, meaning we had to park round the corner on the street. It was super close to Pavilion Gardens and the town centre, and a quick drive out to many beautiful walks. We would happily stay again.
-
"A fab weekend spent with friends at a lovely property."
Location excellent to the town. Couldn't fault, will definitely be returning x

"Property exactly as described."
Spacious, comfortable, well equipped, everything worked. Very quiet location, but very close to town centre. Off road parking. No negatives to report.

"1, Southgate, Buxton 1, Southgate is the third holiday cottage in Buxton that we have rented through Sykes."
It’s benefits are, firstly, the central location, with on-site parking, which is a major bonus in the town of Buxton. Secondly, the apartment is unusually spacious – the main bedroom would easily accommodate a full-sized snooker table! Daylight is slightly restricted, although this is to be expected in any lower ground floor apartment. The external stairway is easy to navigate, even with luggage; has good handrailing and can be illuminated for safe access at night. Generally speaking, the apartment is definitely up to the high standards that one expects from Sykes, and was clean, comfortable and exactly as described. We have no hesitation in recommending this apartment, and we expect to visit it again in the future.

"This flat is a very comfortable place to stay in Buxton."
We had our 2 grandkids with us and they loved it. Very close to all the amenities in Buxton and the local Sainsbury was very useful. The Coach House fish and chip shop on the main road was excellent. The heating in the flat was very efficient and helped us to get the kids clothes dry after days playing in the park and woods. The timing and clock controls on the oven were tricky even with the instructions and there seemed to be some airflow at the top of the oven ( not the oven fan) which we couldnt turn off. However we were able to use it for cooking. Overall had a great week in the property.

"Excellent property."
Ideally located for visiting town centre all local attractions.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."
This is a very comfortable base to explore the area with young children.

-
"Lovely property."
Clean, warm and comfortable. Centrally located so most of Buxton's attractions and shops were within walking distance. Highly recommended.
-
"Everything was great."
We had everything we needed to be comfortable and feel at home.
-
"Accommodation was brilliant."
Very clean and comfortable. We'll equipped kitchen. Excellent location. We had a fabulous holiday. Many thanks.
-
"We enjoyed our stay at Southgate very much."
The apartment was clean, and well appointed with everything we required. The centre of Buxton was within a five minute walk, so it was easy to pop to the shops, to good places to eat & to local attractions. We were able to visit were many places of interest from stately homes, gardens to charming villages, all well worth a visit using Southgate as a base. It's a winner.

"Just back from a lovely stay in Buxton."
The property is furnished with simple but quality items, beds were extremely comfortable, kitchen is well equipped and the little extras (tea & coffee, loo rolls, dishwasher tablets, teatowels) very welcome. No faults or issues whilst we were there. The property itself is close enough to walk into the town whilst still being on a quiet street, pavillion gardens, shops, pubs all within a few moments walk. The property has a parking space which is important as on-street parking nearby is hard to come by - something to be aware of if you bring a second vehicle. Would happily stay here again next time we visit the area.
-
"Exactly as listed and shown in the photos, beds and bathroom were perfectly a comfortable."
Would easily stay again!
-
"Great basemant apartment, Very spacious, two large bedrooms, good bed linen and towels."
Well equipped kitchen. Off road parking. Great base for the Peak District. Only suggestion to improve outside seating.
-
"Nice clean and well equipped apartment."
Great location for walking into Buxton
-
"Absolutely amazing."
The apartment was so spacious and spotless. We were really impressed. Fantastic location, we will be visiting again.
-
"Excellent flat and parking, very clean and well equipped, perfect for town centre."
Only disappointment was weather.
-
"Loved our stay in Buxton and would highly recommend this flat."
Simple in decoration but extremely clean and tidy with spacious rooms. Plenty of space for a family to stay here with 2 large bedrooms, 1 room has a single and double bed, and the other a double bed. For a basement flat, it was surprisingly light and airy, and the flat was very quiet. Well equipped with plenty of kitchen utensils, high chair and cot, washing machine, good internet and a large tv. We also received chocolates and a bottle of Prosecco on arrival, a great touch! The flat is 2 streets away from the centre of town, but situated up a slight hill so away from any noise. Easy 2 min walk to town, and a couple minutes more to the beautiful parade gardens. Great location! There’s a Sainsbury’s local a couple of mins walk away as well. We had a great stay, and would definitely recommend to others looking for a staycation this summer. Thanks for hosting us!
-
"Property was excellent - very spacious and clean with all the facilities you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay."
Really couldn't be better located in terms of how close it is to the town centre and also as a base to explore the surrounding area. Would certainly book this property again.
-
"Well located and very clean and comfortable apartment."
The kitchen was well equipped, in fact it was better equipped than any other self-catering place we have stayed in. We did take our own washing up liquid and tea bags/sugar and many other things, but the owner had thought of everything. It was good to have towels provided. It was a lovely touch for the owner to leave us a bottle of wine and chocolates. The beds were very comfortable. Rooms were all spacious and we liked the large screen TV. Regarding the kitchen utensils and crockery, it was good to see everything sparkling clean. The location could not have been better. It was close to the shops, bus stops, pubs and restaurants and even close to the gardens (once you know the short cut). We would definitely book this property again and would definitely use Sykes again.
-
"Flat was larger than I expected, clean and very warm."
A couple of items I would have liked in the kitchen but not a problem. Central for shops, pubs and restaurants and has the advantage of being halfway up/ down the hill so it's an easy walk to the market place or the Pavillion Gardens and train station. Parking space is a real bonus in Buxton. Would be very happy to stay here again.
-
"Claire the housekeeper and Owen the maintenance gentleman sorted something that broke within two hours, very courteously and pleasantly."
-
"Excellent location."
Having a parking space was a big bonus. Could walk to the town centre and railway station within minutes.
-
"Well equiped, spacious flat."
Appreciated dishwasher tabs, kitchen roll, tea, coffee and welcoming wine and chocolates! Quiet yet central for walking into Buxton town centre/Opera House. Tiny suggestion...maybe a unit/surface in bathroom to put toiletries on and some sort of music player/blue tooth? Would certainly recommend and definitely visit again.
-
"The accommodation was lovely we arrived early evening we opened the door the heating was on so cosy as it was a really chilly evening."
It was so easy to walk into Buxton and lovely park eating places and leisure centre.would recommend to anyone. Was close to all the main places like Dovedale Bakewell etc such lovely scenery all well worth a visit.
-
"The apartment is very central."
Close to shops and bus stops. A very welcome bottle of wine and chocolates were left for us. The heating was on all the time which was great as it was quite chilly outside. Would definitely recommend this apartment.
-
"The location of the property was perfect."
We had everything we needed for our short stay... although the ironing board needed some TLC! It was beautifully furnished throughout and comfy.
-
"Very comfortable, quiet and excellent location as Buxton amenities all in walking distance."
Modern decor and furniture. Very clean and helpful to have tea/coffee etc already there. Contact very helpful in repairing some of kitchen lights, they were fixed within 24 hours of repotting. Would stay again on another trip to Buxton. Thank you also for wine and chocolates on arrival.
-
"Used the property for a business trip."
Excellent location for the town and commuting. Really comfortable flat. Would definately book again.
-
"A very warm, clean and comfortable apartment excellently located to enjoy the amenities of Buxton without the need to drive."
We will be happy to book the same apartment should we return to Buxton in the summer.
-
"Loved the wine and delicious chocs on arrival and that the apartment was so comfortable and well equipped."
-
"What a perfect position in Buxton, so close to all the amenities but so quiet."
The apartment is spacious, clean, comfortable and everything you require for a self catering holiday is there. Tea coffee sugar, milk for a cuppa when you arrive, and a couple of bottles of wine and local chocolates welcome you in. I would recommend a day cycling on the Monsal trail to Bakewell, especially on a Monday which is Bakewell market day, a brilliant day out.Lots of walks within easy reach either by car or an excellent bus service. Entertainment at night is plentiful in Buxton, with the beautiful Opera House offering varied acts, and bands can be found in one of the many pubs most nights of the week. The Pavillion and gardens are superb for all the family. Buxton is truly a gem and No 1 Southgate also.
-
"We have rented places in Buxton several times before, we enjoy visiting the area."
The flat was in a very good position to access all of the facilities the town has to offer. The rooms were spacious and overall the flat was very clean. Two bottles of wine, red & white, chocolates as well as tea, coffee and milk were provided which was very much appreciated. The kitchen and bathroom were very nice, beds comfortable, linens god quality. The only one minor issue was the lack of some kitchen items, small glasses and bowls. A place we would be happy to visit again.
-
"Central location in buxton."
ideal for exploring all that buxton itself offers . and for walking or touring the Peak district National park
-
"The property is very comfortable and clean with high quality furnishings making our stay perfect."
It has a great location in the centre of Buxton and provides good access to The Peak District. It was lovely that the owners left us some wine and handmade chocolates to welcome us at the house. We would certainly consider staying here again and will be recommending to our friends and family. Thank-you!
-
"The flat was very well located to access Buxton and was much larger than we anticipated."
There was a very welcome gift of wine and chocolates on arrival.Thank you

"We were in another lovely Sykes apartment in Buxton when the boiler broke down, leaving us without central heating (although there was a woodburner) and without hot water - in January!"
Sykes contacted the owner of 1 Southgate, who let us transfer there at no extra cost (although it was bigger) and who let us stay an extra day. Another lovely Sykes apartment, great (very central but quiet) location to ditch the car and walk or use bus or train everywhere. Very well-equipped - although a DVD/CD player would have been welcome (admittedly this is probably an old-fashioned request in these days of streaming and mp3s). Have already booked 1 Southgate for return in July.
-
"Spacious apartment."
Central to buxton ideal to explore the peak district
-
"The holiday home is in a great location minutes from everything you need."
The apartment had everything you need to make a relaxing holiday with a washing machine and dishwasher and washing powder and cleaning products were all supplied which makes a nice change, and even more than one roll of loo paper! Soap in kitchen and bathroom was great too as was the welcome grocery pack. The apartment was nice and spacious with plenty of storage and all the furniture was comfortable to sit on too. Overall really impressed and enjoyed our weeks stay in Buxton. As mentioned in the particulars the property is accessed via steps and you need to take care in the wet weather and I would extend a warning to autumn visitors to take care with the wet leaves
-
"The apartment was superb."
Everything we needed for a short break was provided including some complimentary wine and chocolates. The photos on the website do not do the apartment justice, it was much nicer than we expected. Brilliant location, overall we had a lovely weekend.

About the location
BUXTON
Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.
It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
