  • "Unfortunately our stay at this house was very disappointing."

It was described as a luxury house, but it was far from that. Everything was tired and dirty. We couldn’t log onto the internet and couldn’t get any of the televisions to work. In the main bathroom the toilet seat was broken and the sink was blocked. We couldn’t open the windows and there are no fans in either bathroom. There were no instruction packs for the heating or televisions, as mentioned. Meaning that the house was cold and the heating was fixed on a timer, which was no good when we were there during the day. The oven trays were dirty and when moving the settee to find the lamp switch we were disgusted with the dirt and grime we found behind it. Even though the house slept 8, there were only 4 dining chairs, so we had to bring in the tired and dirty outside chairs in so we could all sit around the table for our daughters 30th birthday meal. I tried to contact the owner whilst we were there to discuss the heating and television controls with no response. The issues with this house put the dampers on what should have been an enjoyable weekend away for our daughter’s 30th birthday celebrations. I would suggest that you remove this property from your site and that you inspect the properties periodically that you advertise on your site.

  • "I would have given 0 stars but the least you can give is one."

The only positive thing I can say is the property is in a great location. On arrival we struggled to gain entry to the property as the front yale had been double locked from the inside. Overall the house is in a very poor state of repair, cracked and peeling plaster, peeling paint on walls, kitchen cupboards and furniture, window frames coming away from the walls. It is a period property so I assume listed, so you could overlook it being rough around the edges if the property was clean, but it wasn't. We felt grubby and unable to fully relax for our entire stay. The floors, rugs and carpets were dirty, there was dust, cobwebs and general dirt everywhere you looked. Black mould on bathroom grout and shower heads that didn't work fully due to limescale build-up. Baked on food and actual food in the microwave and oven. Dirty oven trays just sat in the oven that has not been cleaned for a long time. Towels and bedding were clean but it is clear to anyone who runs their own home that the property has had nothing but a cursory "clean" for some time. Shonky bannister rail on first floor which left the member of our party with mobility issues feeling unsafe using the stairs. (They live in a period property themselves, so are usedto steep staircases). A more trivial issue that the tv remotes don't work properly and the tv turns itself off at random. We tried to ring the landlord about the state of the kitchen, calls did not connect to his phone. I rang Sykes immediately and sent photos, got a standard "we've passed it to landlord" response and my complaint was closed straightaway, even though it wasn't resolved. We heard nothing from the landlord and nothing further from Sykes (despite making further contact that wasn'treplied to). We were left with a kitchen no one would want to use. The kitchen was in the same state wbe we left so it is not the case that it was resolved whilst we were out. Would not recommend the property or booking through Sykes to anyone. Which is a shame as my family have used Sykes for many years without issue but it only takes one poor experience to take your business elsewhere. You are told to report issues as soon as they happen so they can be resolved. We did and they weren't. If we had reported it after we would have been told it was too late to do so. It seems that it doesn't matter when you report issues, they don't get resolved either way

  • "Do Not Book!"

!!! Absolutely disgraceful customer service from Sykes following an awful stay at this property. Oven was so dirty it couldn’t be used. Garden couldn’t be used, overgrown and needed washed. Some questionable stains and mould around the interior. Lounge sofa and rug absolutely disgusting. Lots of photographic evidence but after 6 weeks of trying to get a response from Sykes, all they can say is that contact should have been made whilst we were there so the problems could have been rectified. There’s absolutely no way those problems could. E quickly rectified so that’s just ridiculous. Photos online not like the property at all!!!!!

  • "Great house in a great location."

No need to treck far for anything. Asda round the corner, Great walks and cafes near by. The house had everything we needed for the week and we had a relaxing stay. Only down side was the night time traffic, if this is something that bothers you. The traffic was extremely loud due to thin windows. Also we struggled with the WiFi, WiFi boosters are recommended for such a large house as there is no point in smart TVs unless the WiFi reaches them. Overall a great time was had and we would recommend ☺

  • "I wish I had read the reviews from Sykes cottages and Airbnb before booking this property."

The house was filthy & tired. The oven was so dirty we couldn't use it. Other essential items were broken or not supplied. I contacted the owner after our stay, who was unhelpful and unpleasant. I have not pursued the complaint as I am aware from previous customers that they had experienced the same reply. Please read the reviews before booking this property.

Thank you for your feedback. We dispute the cleanliness of the property and damages. It is a real shame that you did not contact us at any time during your stay to query anything or request help as we would have been more than happy to assist you at any time during your stay. We cannot rectify any issues when you have returned home. We have had more than 20 bookings over the last three months and this is the first complaint. Property Owner

  • "Absolutely filthy."

Thank you for providing feedback for 1 Reabrook Place. We would hope guests would contact us during their stay with any problems so we can have a chance to put them right. We could have offered you a re clean of the property and there is nothing we can do now you have returned home. The review is out of character for the property as the property usually has excellent feedback. Property Owner

  • "Really love place, in a great location."

Facilities wise it had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Having the lovely courtyard at the back was a nice extra where you could sit and have a morning cuppa in the sunshine. All in all it was a lovely place to stay with family. The only thing I would say that let it down slightly was the fact that the property doesn't have double glazing to the front of the house. The road noise was ok but became more apparent at night when in bed, along with the noise of people walking past. I think double glazing would take this away and make this property perfect.

  • "The house is lovely, clean and good facilities."

It has been decorated with some unique items (a stain glass feature in the kitchen, lots of different style mirrors in the hall, some striking feature walls) which adds to the character of the place. The location is excellent as within easy walking distance to restaurants, the town centre and river walks. Shrewsbury has an abundance of places to eat - can recommend both Cote and The Peach Tree (very close); lots of shops and interesting places to visit. We were 4 girls having a weekend catchup, the house suited us well. Contact with the owner was good and questions answered and dealt with very quickly. Would recommend this place no problem.

A perfect place for my sister-in-law's 50th birthday celebration week end. In spite of the awful weather 1 Reabrook Terrace was warm and welcoming. And by the way, everyone said that their bed was really big and comfy!
