  • "We found Dovecote Cottage catered exceptionally well for a get away from it all holiday."

The care and consideration that has gone into providing the accommodation is evident everywhere you look inside and out. We enjoyed travelling around the area to visit NT properties and surrounding countryside.

  • "The cottage is cosy, spacious and very comfortable with a very luxurious feel to it."

The kitchen and bathroom are well equiped and there is a small garden at the rear fully fenced off. Despite the rather mixed weather, we were able to enjoy days out. The location makes it easy to reach many places of interest and if you want walks straight from the door, there are plenty of those available too. Amanda and Jon were lovely hosts, just next door if needed. We would certainly stay again, the dogs loved their week away, as did we. Many thanks.

  • "We recently had the pleasure of staying at this cottage."

The cottage is very spacious, which made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Its location is truly outstanding, providing us with easy access to beautiful local attractions. However, I did notice that the cleanliness could use a bit more attention. I found a few dog treats in the rug, which made me wonder if a thorough cleaning had taken place. There was some rubbish visible under the TV unit, which I refused to remove. If pets are allowed, I think a little extra care in cleaning in between visitors especially with dogs would enhance the overall experience. We also had trouble with the Wi-Fi in the evenings, which made it difficult to watch iPlayer or even a film, as the connection kept dropping, and we eventually gave up. Overall, this cottage has great potential and could be a truly wonderful getaway with just a bit more focus on detail.

  • "Spacious comfortable and well equipped, the interior was ideal for us as a couple with two dogs."

The bed was roomy and very comfortable, some very nice furniture and good sized TV. The bedroom was large and had ample room for anyone working from home. Excellent shower and great to have dishwasher and washing machine. The enclosed outdoor space at the rear is limited but a pleasant garden at front as shown in the photos shared with the owners. The owners very friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The only real down side was the incessant barking from dogs in the house adjacent to the property who are presumably left at home alone.

  • "This is a really comfortable cottage."

All the rooms are large and well equipped. The bed is particularly comfortable and luxurious. The area is good for walking and sight seeing. The velux window could do with a blind at this time of year. But, overall, we had a lovely stay. Thank you

We did think (from the pictures) we had more outside space, however it is just a small area at the back of the property that can be used. We would like to return and stay longer next time!

amenities, cleanliness, comfort, location,…….. the owners are lovely, friendly & knowledgeable regarding the area. If you want a relaxing “get away from it all “ break then this is for you! The nearest town is Ashbourne which is roughly 3 miles down the road & has lots of quaint shops & cafes, there are lots of walking & sightseeing to do around the area. All in all a beautiful place to stay, highly recommend.

The low beam in the bedroom took a little getting used to and a few bits of basic kitchen equipment could be added to make life even easier. I missed having a proper cheese grater, a potato masher and maybe a steamer.

Very spacious, beautiful furniture and decor and the kitchen was well equipped. The bed was amazing and the whole stay felt very romantic and special. The lovely owners were right next door and they were helpful when we needed them but never intrusive. Highly recommend and would love to stay at this cottage again. (A little note to other guests for info… the WIFI is reliable but low speed and we had no phone signal i.e. no hotspot. This was ok for web browsing/emails, however we had planned to WFH a little but it was a struggle to do video calls)

It is elegantly furnished with beautiful furniture, comfy sofas and the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in! The bedroom is delightfully quirky and the bathroom facilities are excellent. The kitchen had everything you could need and our dog also felt very welcome. Shame the weather was so awful, but that meant we enjoyed what the cottage had to offer even more!

The owners live next door and have the right mix of being there if you need anything and leaving you alone to get on with a relaxing holiday. Car needed as the main parts of the Peak District are a little drive away. But don't let this put you off as this is a fantastic little holiday let. Enjoy :-)

About the location

ASHBOURNE

Matlock 15.7 miles; Bakewell 16.6 miles; Chatsworth 20.4 miles.

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th-century, the town was a fashionable social centre, and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by and for thrill seekers Alton Towers with its exciting collecting of rides and attractions is just a short drive away.
