"We had a wonderful time at Hops Cottage, beautiful, welcoming and ultra clean."
The welcome biscuits and beer where a real treat thank you. A great base to explore the Peak district but we also really enjoyed just spending time at the cottage just relaxing in front of the log fire. Was a perfect stay for us and we will be back.
Lovely feedback thank you Catherine. Property Owner

"Such a lovely, cosy cottage!"
My husband, brother, brother-in-law and I had to make last minute Christmas plans, and we could not have chosen a better place to spend our Christmas! The cottage was just as expected from the photos on the listing and even nicer once inside as the place was decorated for Christmas with little decorations here and there and a tree in the living. There was even a Christmas card and a box of chocolates awaiting our arrival, which was a very lovely touch indeed. The kitchen was so well equipped, we had no trouble preparing anything at all and we had lots of space to store things. The fridge was quite small, but for 4 people with rather large appetites for Christmas food that needs to be stored in the fridge, that's on us and our choice of foods really! The bathroom and bedrooms upstairs were very comfortable and spacious with good light and just as depicted in the photos. Two things I will say: We first arrived in the evening when it was very dark and found the cottage a bit tricky to locate, as the map shown for the location didn't match the written instructions we were sent. But we managed it and made it into the cottage in the end! The height of the doorways and the ceilings downstairs could be problematic for anyone that might be rather tall. 3 out of 4 of us are quite short so we had no trouble, but my brother (the tallest of the group, around 6ft) had to duck under the doorways throughout the cottage, but once in the rooms themselves he was just fine! Overall, it was a truly wonderful and very comfortable stay and we'd absolutely love to book again!
Hi Eimee Thank you for your very positive feedback. We are really pleased that you had a comfortable and wonderful Christmas time at Hops Cottage. All the very best. Property Owner

"Beautiful little cottage in a quiet setting."
Very cosy. Small, but well-equipped kitchen and plenty of home comforts. Sofa wasn't quite as comfy as we'd have liked, but didn't spend much time on it! Perfect for a family holiday or for couples. The stone floors and fireplace were a bit of a hazard for our newly crawling little one though!
Thank you for your feedback Rachel it’s appreciated. Very pleased that you enjoyed the setting, ambience and home comforts of the cottage. Yes downstairs we decided to keep the traditional cottage style flagstones and tiles and solid fuel fire, in addition to the central heating. We do hope that you might come and stay at Hops Cottage again sometime. Very best wishes. Property Owner

"A lovely property and being 5 foot 5 I didn't struggle but my husband did with some of the beams."
Lovely size garden but due to the maintenance and two large holes with bricks over we didn't use with our kids. Instead, we walked to the playground which is only around the corner. With not having much wardrobe space it would have been handy to have an iron. It would have been great to have a hairdryer too. But, neither of these were listed so I knew about this in advance. Not far from uttoxeter and well placed for lots of lovely days out as a family. Overall a lovely little cottage and would recommend to family and friends
We appreciate the review and your positive comments and suggestions. The photos show the garden at the current time. It’s a sizeable garden so going forward we are looking for a gardener to help us. The two covered post holes in the lawn approx 20cm are due to be filled with soil and turfed over. We were pleased to hear that the children made good use of the playground nearby. And close to the St Cuthbert’s churchyard (with the ancient yew tree of Robin Hood and Maid Marion fame) there's a lovely pond where the ducks can be fed and a bench to sit and relax. In the summer you will also find a wonderful display of wild flowers near to the pond. Thank you for recommending Hops Cottage to your family and friends Property Owner

"Only two things I think could improve the cottage; ~ garden maintence ~ include washing machine We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, was a great base for exploring surrounding areas."
Pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and the surrounding areas. It’s a large garden so we are looking for a gardener to help us. We will keep in mind the possible installation of a washing machine in future if space and plumbing practicalities allow. Many thanks. Property Owner

"Our stay at the Hops Cottage was very relaxing."
A lot of peak district attractions are around an hour drive from the cottage so the location is quite good as a base stay. The cottage is very cosy and the garden is the highlight of it. We would like to add couple of suggestions : 1. The garden need a bit of Maintaince. 2. Having a washing machine in the cottage will really add value to it.
Thank you for your feedback and suggestions much appreciated. Lovely to hear that you had a relaxing stay and made the most of the many attractions in the area. We agree the garden is a great space and we are looking for a gardener to give it that extra maintenance and finishing touches. We will certainly keep in mind the possible installation of a washing machine in future but this will depend on the space and plumbing practicalities. Thanks again. Property Owner

"Lovely cottage in nice location."
Sykes policy of window restrictors made it extremely difficult to ventilate the bedrooms.
Great to hear that you liked the cottage and the location. The child safety window restrictors allow the upstairs windows to open up to approximately 10cm. But the restrictors can be unlocked allowing the windows to be fully opened. The instructions are in the welcome folder at the cottage. Thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

"We had a really lovely stay at Hops Cottage."
It was very well equipped and super clean. It was perfectly located for the exploring we wanted to do in the area, and of course for Alton Towers. We had to contact the owners once with an issue we encountered and they couldn’t have been more helpful. Thank you.
Thank you for coming to Hops Cottage Hazel. Very pleased that you had a good holiday. Property Owner

"We had difficulty in finding the cottage."
I think if the instructions were improved it would help. For instance, 'foot path' and 'set back from the road' Loved the large garden, and this was the ideal spot to explore with load of stuff to do within a 45 minute drive.
Thank you for your feedback Laurayne. Pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. I will certainly look to improve the directions. Property Owner

About the location
DOVERIDGE
Uttoxeter 3 miles; Ashbourne 12 miles.
The pretty little village of Doveridge lies within easy reach of the Peak District National Park. Doveridge, mentioned in the Domesday Book is nestled amongst beautiful countryside, offering great walking, and cycling paths and trails. St Cuthbert’s Church dates from before the 13th century and boasts a 1400-year-old yew tree which is supported on crutches and under which Robin Hood and Maid Marion were rumoured to have wed. Near the church flows the River Dove with its Victorian suspension footbridge. The village is situated just three miles from the bustling Staffordshire town of Uttoxeter with its larger array of amenities and racecourse. The NT Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood is very close by and offers a fascinating insight into days gone by.
