  • "Great house, spotlessly clean and tidy, nice touches with starter amount of tea, coffee, sugar and milk as we had to wait an hour for our grocery delivery."

Also downstairs bedroom with ensuite perfect for my elderly parents.

  • "Considering covid 19 the house was not very well cleaned."

There was waste medication and plasters and rubbish left in a bedroom drawer. There were various problems with the house ie no plug in sink or bath, bathroom shelf loose, dent in wall behind sofa, shelf missing in another bathroom, front door does not shut without locking it fully, Generally the accommodation needs some TLC as it is feeling worn and in need of various replacements like mattresses, main sofa all of which are uncomfortable and worn. Location is very good as ideal for the Peaks.

  • "Have had no problem with Sykes but unfortunately had to make this report below Disappointing start to our holiday at Darwin Lakes (Wensley Cottage) (booked through Sykes Cottages ) On arrival we found the property had not been cleaned i."

    E. dirty toilets, shower rooms and floors, moudly shower head, hob and cooker hood covered in grease. Floors in lounge/kitchen/dining area not hoovered or washed, not good with a crawling baby around. On going to reception to report findings, the young lady in reception was very helpful and came over with a cleaner and agreed it had not been cleaned at all, we both took photos. She told me to go and report this to the Manager (apparently no Manager available) but message left that he would contact us in the week. (This did not happen). We were assured these properties would be deep cleaned between guests bearing in mind Covid times, which to us was important as we had baby and 2 vulnerable adults in party. On departing we left another message for the Manager but still to this day have heard nothing. Such a shame because the actual properties and setting was perfect for a holiday break.

  • "We booked the Wensley cottage as a last minute getaway and were not disappointed!"

The cottage was clean, cosy and the interior was above our expectations. The pictures above do not do the cottage justice and it has been redecorated since. Would highly recommend it for a short weekend getaway with family or friends.

  • "Unfortunately there was no wifi available in our cottage when the details say it is."

Not the end of the world if we had know beforehand but we had final plans to make and were unable to do so. Particularly difficult as there is no phone signal either. The shower in one of the bedrooms did not drain and the tiling was filthy. A shame because the location was great.

  • "Lovely resort."

Cottages were very pretty set around a lake. Houses were lovely and quiet and toasty warm. Kitchens well equipped. Only negatives were that the interiors of the cottages seemed a little tired. Old lumpy sofas. Beds were very hit and miss. Some springy and old. Others okay. Walls and skirting boards scuffed.

  • "It is extremely frustrating to find a listed property does not have a decent WiFi connection and no phone reception at all."

It would be far better to make your prospective clients aware what the level of WiFi connection/phone signal strength is.......when we arrived at Wensley we found the WiFi sketchy to say the least and our mobile of no use at all. It’s fine to offer a telephone box in the neighbouring square, but when you run your own business that is of no use at all!!! Not impressed with this element of our holiday it made things very difficult for us. The cottage and area were a delight.
