  • "The cottage is lovely, high quality and incredibly well stocked - we found nothing missing."

The garden is lovely with plenty of outdoor furniture but has several stone steps which can be slippery in wet weather ( like most of the Peak District).. The welcome pack was very welcome and lasted for ages. Lots of books, games, puzzles etc, including for children who are very well catered for. The village is also pretty, very quiet, starts a gentle riverside walk. It's very dark at night but torches are supplied. No pub or cafe but we expected that

  • "Wonderful cottage, very modern inside with underfloor heating making it a lovely cosy stay."

The kitchen had almost everything we needed and was clearly well thought out- the only thing we couldn’t find was a grill to go on the tray for grilling but we improvised. Very comfortable throughout, although the double mattress in the main room didn’t seem very breathable, or maybe it was the thick duvet so it got quite hot at night. Lots of games and dvds for the whole family and the kids loved the books. Plus there is a great playground 1 minute down the road! Fun to see peacocks in the front yard parading, but they did so on our car roof at times so you might want to consider a car cover to protect the paint work.

The cottage is maintained to a very high standard, homely and such a lovely place to stay. You can walk straight out into the area, or drive short distance distances to the market towns and estates for more walks. The house has everything you need, the kitchen is very well stocked, the sitting room perfect to relax in after a long day out. The chickens and peacocks from the farm next door provide great amusement but do keep your dog on the lead! I would love to return as it was a wonderful stay.

Kitchen was very well equipped and spacious, bathroom was lovely and the wood burning stove was wonderful of an evening. Loved the extensive literature throughout the property. Such a cosy cottage, we could have stayed longer! Also, we weren't 100% sure from the listing if Wi-Fi was available but it was and was really good. You should consider updating the listing to reflect this as it is a great asset, especially for people planning walking activities. Also enjoyed seeing the white peacocks in the morning

  • "Beautiful cottage in an idyllic quiet village."

The cottage is really well stocked with crockery, kitchenware etc, a lovely welcome pack on arrival and the sunny patio with peacocks was perfect. Just the right size for us and an 11yo and 9 yo. We ate at the breakfast bar which suited us but there is a well appointed dining room too. The village is very quiet, just tractors, peacocks and hens to break the silence, with river and dale walks straight from the front door; you do need to go to the next village for pubs and a shop which sell wonderful baked goods. We also visited the Farmyard Inn which served excellent pub food. There is a play area in the village too. Really well situated for Chatsworth, Bakewell, Matlock etc. We had a water leak in the village whilst there and the owners were straight there with water for the toilet and drinking and to pester the water workers up the lane! Very friendly and helpful. Only 2 minor niggles - neither tin opener worked and the top landing step is extremely slippery. Otherwise a fantastic break in a perfect cottage, we really didn't want to leave and hope to be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciated all the extras that were left for our use (and the dog’s) ensuring we didn’t need to nip out for bits and pieces all the time. There are pubs and a little shop in the next village about 1.5 mikes away and good local walks. It was a great base to explore the area - and the local peacocks added a bit of fun!!

Comfortable beds, super clean and everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, everyone from Nan to toddler was very happy with their stay! The outdoor area is gorgeous for alfresco dining and watching all the local wildlife and taking in the garden. The lack of wifi wasn't as issue, 4G worked quite well if we needed it but it's also good to take a break from being online. We would happily return! My only slight qualm is not to do with the cottage but the Sykes booking system. It would be much better if it was possible to book more flexibly with nightly prices rather than weekly, we would have liked to stay 1-2 extra nights but it wasn't possible with the current booking system.

The cottage has excellent facilities other than lacking a wi-fi connection which wasn't particularly important to me as 4G is present nearby. Cooking facilities are first class and there is a separate dining room. Bathroom has a shower and a bath. The garden area is raised and very pleasant, enclosed and not too large. You can watch a variety of birds on the bird feeder from the lounge, during our stay coaltits and a nuthatch were regularly present and were not even put off by a visiting sparrow hawk. You can walk a few hundred yards down the road and access the River Bradford which provides super circular footpaths to Youlgreave and beyond. Within easy reach (20 minutes max) by car are Matlock, Chatsworth, Bakewell, Lathkill Dale, Millers Dale and Monsal Dale. A country walkers paradise. I highly recommend this cottage.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed the property. We do not advertise the property with wifi as regrettably due to the rural location it is not possible. However we hope that the peaceful and tranquil area makes up for this, and we are glad you enjoyed the local wildlife. Property Owner

The walk down the river into the next village of Youlgrave is magical and with the choice of pubs in the village is a great pit stop before the returning walk back to cottage. The owners have thought of everything from games, DVDs to plenty of books to keep you busy, my hubby throughly enjoyed reading the book about the history of Middleton well worth reading as it gives you a good insight into the village, and we enjoyed spotting the different buildings as we walked through the village. I loved watching the birds on the feeders outside the window. The cottage has everything you need for a great stay in the Peak District, and is not far from Bakewell. The under floor heating is amazing. I would definitely recommend this cottage and we will definitely return in the future, the homemade flapjacks left as a welcome are delicious and went down a treat. It's warm and comfortable and very well equipped, with some lovely mid century ceramics. The selection of local history and guide books is the best I've ever seen in a cottage. There are many lovely walks straight from the door. Middleton is beautiful and a very peaceful location if you want to get away from it all. Downstairs is beautiful and very well thought out. The front bedroom is also very good. If you like GPlan you'll be in actual heaven. It is slightly let down by the double bedroom at the back, the kids certainly got the better deal in terms of space and comfort and the view. The back bedroom did smell a bit damp and the window was stuck and we didn't want to force it open for fear of breaking it. My main discontent though was there were no bedside lights and no bedside table. I knew from the pictures that it was a small room and there were wardrobes either side of the bed but in practice it is a real pain not to have somewhere to put a cup of tea. The pictures did show reading lights on the wardrobes but there weren't actually any there, this should be sorted. I think it would also be worth considering swapping one of the wardrobes for a bedside table.

The property

An absolutely delightful cottage, set five miles from the popular town of Bakewell, on the edge of the pretty Peak District village of Middleton-by-Youlgreave.

Accessed through a little garden gate, via the front patio, guests will enter into the characterful kitchen, which is very well equipped and light and bright with its high ceilings.

The kitchen also boasts the added benefit of a breakfast bar and cosy heating underfoot, making it warm and welcoming.

Two steps lead down to the cosy sitting room, with the focal point of a cream woodburning stove, the perfect accompaniment for cooler evenings.

This room is also very tastefully designed with a unique blend of contemporary and retro features.

From the sitting room, the dining room leads on nicely, with its large table where you can enjoy time together arranging activities for the days to come, or discussing the events of the day over a traditional family board game.

A bathroom completes the ground floor, and then upstairs are two bedrooms, both individually styled in keeping with the rest of the cottage.

Outside, the garden areas are a delight with two patios to choose from to the back of the cottage, and then to the front and side youÂ’ll find a further patio and small lawned area.

Opposite the property is a working farm, and the lovely little village of Middleton-by-Youlgreave is a delight to wander through, surrounded by a network of footpaths criss-crossing this beautiful part of Derbyshire.

Within a short drive is the lovely little market town of Bakewell, with its wonderful choice of shops and eateries, and a traditional market every Monday.

A visit to the majestic Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall should not be missed, both within easy reach.

This is a beautiful little cottage for a small family or a couple looking for a rural village escape with a little bit of luxury.

About the location

MIDDLETON-BY-YOULGREAVE

Bakewell 5 miles.

Middleton-by-Youlgreave is a small, quiet and secluded village situated in lovely rolling countryside above the River Bradford. The village centre consists of an old square and a village green with a Second World War memorial. Its slightly larger neighbour, Youlgreave, is a pretty village with traditional old pubs and village stores, and was once the centre of the Derbyshire lead-mining industry. Nearby, Bakewell is an attractive old market town, extremely popular with visitors and offering a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a frequent local market and farmers' market. The area is situated within the Peak District National Park and ideally placed for both walkers and cyclists exploring this beautiful region, as the Tissington Trail and Monsal Trail run nearby. Alton Towers, Britain's premier theme park, is only a short drive away and there are many stately homes to visit - Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, to mention but a few.
