  • "We absolutely loved the cottage."

It was lovely, very clean and well decorated. It had everything in it that we could have wanted. The location is good and we tried a couple of the local takeaways. The walks around the reservoirs were really good and the scenery is just beautiful. The dampener for the week, other than the weather, which was very wet, was that the electricity board were working outside all day Tuesday so it was difficult to park near the cottage due to how they had the road blocked off. Then on the Wednesday, they cut the electric from 9am - 5pm so we had to spend the day out all day, mostly in the rain, with 2 dogs - it was not much fun at all. It is not the fault of the cottage owners and there was nothing that they could have done about the situation, however it put a bit of a dampener on an otherwise brilliant stay.

We note your feedback comes after you were charged the cleaning bond for leaving dog muck all over the garden, dog faeces on the rug, blood all over the house and blood all over the bedding and duvet which would not come out. You were in fact one of the dirtiest guests we have had at the property. We have text messages from you during your stay where you say how lovely the property is and how much you were enjoying it so it’s no surprise you are now claiming otherwise after you left the property in a complete state and were charge for same. • "The cottage is in a good location, lovely and spacious and we were able to park outside which was great."

The cottage did have quite a stale smell when we arrived (I know it’s pet friendly) and it wasn’t quite as clean as we have had in previous cottages - it felt like no one had been in it for a while and the tv in the bedroom wasn’t connected to the Ariel so didn’t work. We also noted there is no extractor in the bathroom and you can’t open the window so there was quite a bit of mould around the bath. The cottage just needs a good freshen up.

  • "This is a lovely cottage situated in Holmfirth next to local walks in the woods with a few amenities (takeaways, bars and a coop) all within walking distance."

A short drive away to Holmfirth village and several walks that are suitable for off lead walking with the dogs. The property is as listed, furnishings are modern and the property is clean. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it for anyone wanting to use the cottage as a base for exploring the Peak District. We are only giving it a 4 star for reasons related to the garden that won’t be relevant to all guests. First we have 2 dogs and we usually like to relax in the garden with them with a few drinks after a day out walking. The garden in this property is very small at the rear of the property with a fence and locked gates either side to the neighbouring properties (I assume this is for access due to the terraced nature of the properties which back onto a high wall). The garden has fake grass and isn’t really a place we felt we could relax in. It was really only suitable to let the dogs out for a quick morning business as the neighbour’s rottweiler would growl and snarl at our dogs through the fence. I don’t blame the rottweiler, they are only doing a good job of guarding their territory but it was a bit intimidating for my two boxers. If the garden situation isn’t a concern for other guests then I’d definitely recommend the property.

  • "We had a lovely and comfortable stay."

The cottage was very homely and we didn’t need anything as everything was provided for. The cottage was well maintained and clean. The only issue we had was with your listing which gave no indication of any parking. We did email you but you never responded. We then contacted the owner direct who responded very quickly to clarify the situation. You can park on the road but it’s advisable to have some of your car on the pavement and your wing mirrors in. As the cottage is on a hill it’s fair to say the majority of people using it drove very responsibly.

Thank you so much for booking to stay and for your lovely comments! I’m so pleased you enjoyed your stay and found everything comfortable. I’m so sorry Sykes wasn’t responsive, we have raised this issue with them to ensure this doesn’t happen again in future and I appreciate you contacting me directly instead. Property Owner

The location is ideal for touring, and some interesting walks nearby, with a small but secure garden for any 4 legged friends that accompany you. The decor is fabulous, and the fittings are functional and although I love coffee I chose not to use the coffee machine in the kitchen, it was just too high up for me (if you go there you will see what I mean). We absolutely loved the cottage, and because it all looked so fresh you feel compelled to keep it clean - which is as it should be. If we are in the vicinity again we will definitely look at booking this again.

Hi Rachel, thank you for your feedback. On arrival it wasn't too hard to find. Parking is just on the road outside of the property. The first thing we noticed when we opened the door unfortunately was a very strong smell of damp and wet dog. For some reason this smell was only downstairs in the property where as upstairs smelt quite pleasant. Felt rather uncomfortable as I have a very sensitive nose. So didn't cook anything in the property and took food upstairs to eat as I couldn't bare the smell. We bought a can on dog smell deodorising spray with us and even went to a local shop and bought a candle and left the downstairs window open throughout our stay but the smell did not subside. I'm not sure whether we got unlucky maybe from the previous people who visited but I can honestly say this put a huge downer on our stay as the weather was awful and we couldn't go out much. The area itself was lovely and there was a lovely burger restaurant and barkery in Holmfirth and we visited the local reservoir with our dogs which was beautiful.

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately it’s a shame your feedback differs greatly from what you told me at the time. Your exact message read: “Thank you for all the info, your cottage is perfect we felt at home immediately and had a really good first nights sleep! Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely, tastefully decorated cottage with on road parking."

The area is beautiful, and the cottage is well positioned with walks straight from the door and Holmfirth a five-minute drive away, wouldn't recommend a walk but the bus stop is just across the road. The only negative thing I would say are some of the lighting features, the one in the kitchen is low and we often walked into it, the bathroom lights kept flickering and I would recommend putting a bin in there, the fire stove door was black, and we had to clean it to enjoy the flame, like I say minor details. On the whole it was a lovely cottage with a wonderful fire to cosy up in front of, with great walks and a homely feel.

Many thanks for your feedback Sue, I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay and glad you found the area beautiful. We are disappointed with the score, given the very minor issues you highlighted and more so that these issues were not raised at any point during your stay as we could have assisted you. The bathroom is on a dimmer switch and does need to be turned up fully, if it is not turned on properly it will flicker. We do not put a bin in the bathroom as items placed in it are unsanitary & it would be unfair for our cleaner to remove these items (particularly with covid still very much present). It is quite normal for the door of log burners to become black, rather than using harsh chemicals on the glass, it is recommended by the fire installer that it is simply just burnt off and it comes off within 5 minutes of being lit if lit correctly using the guide so I trust this didn’t cause you an inconvenience. We are very pleased you found the cottage cosy and homely and thank you again for booking to stay at Springwood. Property Owner

Had no problems cooking or using any of the kitchen appliances. On a purely personal preference it would’ve been nice to have a couple of mugs rather than the larger cups. Hi Angie! Thank you for your feedback. The property is situated on a main road, this is made clear in the description. The information you requested was provided to you straight away when asked. We do not have recycling bins as what goes in them varies from different councils. With it being a holiday let and people coming from different areas, it was found people were putting items in that could not be recycled in Kirklees which caused numerous issues for the bin men. We did point you to the neatest recycling bins if you wished to recycle your items. You will also note there is no where to place multiple additional bins as the property is a terrace and people like to park directly outside. A guide is usually provided containing all the property information so I apologise this was not available for you. Thank you again for booking and I’m glad you enjoyed the rest of your stay! There are instructions by the thermostat that were easy to understand. The cottage is in a good location to visit places of interest and fabulous walks. We took 2 dogs and never failed to find a different walk. The TV in the bathroom was a lovely surprise, maybe a small request would be a tv in the bedroom. We would definitely recommend this cottages(in fact my friend has requested your details already) and will certainly be visiting again soon. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Thank you so much Karen for taking the time to provide such lovely feedback, it’s really appreciated. We would love to see you again in future! We completely agree with you regarding the tv and have now popped one in the bedroom (along with a wardrobe and more storage space) so hopefully your next visit will be even better! Property Owner

  • "A lovely place for a break."

The cream tea kit waiting for us was very welcome. Only minor problems were the misdirection of the thermostat location in the pre arrival email and the lack of off road parking. The thermostat was found once we started moving things into the bedroom and the road was not very busy.

  • "We booked a 5 night break but only stayed 4 nights, 3 mornings out of the 4 we had no heating and no hot water, we contacted the owner on each morning and they did try each day to resolve the issue."

We saw rats in the back yard on several occasions and also reported to the owner who again came out and cleared out behind a shed. The house next door kept chickens and was full of scrap/junk which probably encouraged rats. The cottage is also on a main road which was very busy and noisy. It was such a shame as the cottage inside was nicely decorated with plenty of space.

  • "Great location for exploring the area!"

Felt very (Covid) safe in the house - very clean. Would have no hesitation in recommending a stay here. Scones on arrival were a lovely touch, as were dog biscuits for our furbaby :-)
