  • "A Beautiful cottage in beautiful surroundings."

Situated in what feels like the middle of nowhere but is actually very convenient for all amenities. The underfloor heating downstairs kept the cottage lovely and warm and the log burner gave the ambiance of a real fire. Great for February weather. The cottage had everything that we needed for our stay with plenty of blankets should you need them. The fresh eggs, milk and biscuits were a nice addition and thoroughly appreciated. Would definitely book again if in the area

The location is perfect for those wanting to do some walking on the adjacent Moors or through the historic Milling villages and canal system We look forward to returning next year.

My husband and I were really happy with the cottage,it had everything we needed for our stay there. The owner (Nigel) was a perfect host. We got a nice surprise on arrival as the owner had left us a starter pack, 6 fresh eggs from the farm, tea-bags,coffee,sugar and a lovely packet of biscuits along with a bottle of milk. Although the Cottage is on a farm we still found it really peaceful. We would certainly go back again for a holiday, and we would recommend this place for anyone who enjoys walking etc. The cottage was lovely, clean and cosy and set in beautiful countryside.

It's an absolutely lovely place. As it is a working farm, it's full of animals, which my son loved. The only thing is, because it's a working farm, children need to be supervised at all times.

Everyone very friendly. Eggs in welcome pack delicious , and we enjoyed sitting outside and watching the various sorts of chickens wandering around!

  • "After a stressful few months we were looking for a peaceful break in countryside near us, and we got exactly that Jennie’s Cottage is cosy with a log burner and underfloor geothermal heating."

It’s well equipped for self catering, all the cutlery and crockery are matching and good quality, and the welcome pack with milk, eggs and logs was a lovely touch. The bedroom was warm and cosy as we used the wood burner, the bed very comfy and plenty of storage space. The farm is set above a pretty hamlet and the views from the bedroom were stunning The weather wasn’t kind, but it was only February so we braved the elements and were well rewarded with a lovely walk down through the village and along the canal from the end of the Standedge tunnel. There are a lot of cafes, pubs and restaurants to choose from, and the farm owner advised on some definitely not to miss. The Saddleworth museum in nearby Uppermill was very interesting. We would like to have seen more animals around the farm, but understandably they were probably under cover, except for the sheep who we chatted to on our walks We will definitely consider returning in the summer months to look at more walks locally

Thank you very much for your lovely review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay despite the very wet weather. We too love the museum in Uppermill - always something different to see depending on the time of year. f you do return in the summer months you will definitely see more animals - a hen or two have been known to wander through open doors to say hello to our guests! Thanks once again. Abigail & Nigel, Owners. Property Owner

    Very much recommended.

  • "I was shocked to see how little the cottage was."

It was quite underwhelming downstairs as it was dark cold and basement like with non of the promised views I read about. TV was VERY small and only a two seater couch to relax on when been out all day walking. The bath was nice n big and relaxing and the bed was very comfy although very soft too. The cleanliness was not up to standard. Lots of hairs dust and spiders around the cottage. And almost all the crockery was dirty. Although a nice cottage it was definitely not worth the price we paid for it as I stay in at least 2-3 cottages per year and have much better quality and standards for the same price.

I am terribly sorry that you feel our property was not up to your standards. The wall mounted TV/DVD is of an appropriate size for the dimensions of the room - anything larger just wouldn't be in keeping. As the cottage is only for two people, there is a good sized two seater (reclining) settee -anything larger would be overpowering. The cottage is cleaned, aired and disinfected thoroughly between guests changeover and I would like to add that prior to your stay we have always received 100% positive feedback. With reference to the spiders being present in the property, there were none when we had carried out the changeover in time for your arrival, however, it is currently within the season to be expected. Had any concerns been made to us during your stay, we would have endeavored to put them right. Thank you very much for your comments and for taking the time to let us know your thoughts. Customer feedback is very important to help us continually improve our standards. Property Owner

I would highly recommend. Maybe a bit more information as regards to other services the farm offers as in horse riding etc. Most probably we would re- visit.

"Unfortunately, the Riding School that used to operate at the farm ceased trading in January. The farm is still, however, a Livery Yard and the Riding for Disabled use our facilities twice a week." Property Owner

Diggle House Farm Cottages

These delightful, stone-built barn conversion cottages are located on a high promontory, in beautiful rolling countryside near the village of Diggle in the heart of Saddleworth, on the edge of the Peak District. These Saddleworth cottages have been thoughtfully converted to provide excellent eco-friendly facilities, yet they still retain the character and charm of the original dwellings and boast breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. This is a wonderful opportunity to stay in traditional accommodation on a working farm, but also enjoy the home comforts of underfloor heating, solar electricity, rainwater harvesting and hot water supplied from pipes laid within the ground. Modern styling and contemporary furnishings are evident throughout these Diggle cottages which feature open plan living areas with a modern kitchen and a sitting area with a woodburning stove. Upstairs, the cottages feature a modern bathroom and bedrooms with lovely views of the nearby fells. Nearby, Diggle has two traditional pubs, a newsagent, Post Office and a popular chip shop. There is a network of excellent walks, bridleways and cycle routes along valleys or up to the moors that offer glorious views from the cottage, plus other picturesque Saddleworth villages are short drives away. A scenic journey across the moors will bring you to the tourist locations of Hebden Bridge, Haworth, Marsden, Meltham and Holmfirth. Saddleworth and the surrounding areas boast a wide selection of gastropubs and restaurants, plus there is a variety of individual food and farm shops and supermarkets all around. Two lovely Saddleworth cottages whatever the time of year.

About the location

DIGGLE

Uppermill 2.4 miles; Oldham 6.9 miles; Huddersfield 11.5 miles.

Diggle is one of seven villages nestling amongst the 18,000 acres of moorland hills, open fields and scenic valleys that comprise the Saddleworth area. These Pennine villages have a wool spinning and agricultural heritage dating back to the Industrial Revolution, but today Saddleworth has evolved into an attractive South Pennine and Peak District National Park area with breath-taking views and glorious stone-built buildings. Diggle is a thriving little village with a good range of amenities and is well placed to explore the South Pennine region. Part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is located at one end of the restored Standedge Canal Tunnel and Visitor Centre, Britain's longest, deepest and highest canal tunnel. In the heart of the village are the Hanging Gate pub, the Diggle Hotel pub, a few shops selling essentials and Play2 Diggle, a children’s indoor activity Centre. There is a brass band club called the Diggle Band Club which regularly hosts band contests and concerts and The Diggle Blues Festival is an annual event that takes place in June and Diggle is one of the villages that hosts the Whit Friday Band Contests. Nearby attractions include Dove Stone Reservoir for boating and walks, and the Castleshaw Valley with an interpretation trail for a Roman fort, the highest of a series built on the Roman military road from Chester to York.
