  • "We have just returned from this fantastic cottage where we spent a week."

The cottage is perfect for a relaxing break. We even welcomed snow one day whilst we were there. The kitchen was well equipped, everything you need. Really cosy and warm and the enclosed garden is perfect. The beds were really comfortable and the whole experience was wonderful. We would definitely recommend a stay at Apple Tree.

  • "This cottage was not as advertised, the original advert that’s now been changed stated there was an enclosed patio, the gate was Broken so our dog got out onto the busy road, the sofas have seen better days!"

If you can’t get parked you won’t get parked! The cottage shakes as lorry and tractors busses go past, the beds are uncomfortable and the stairs are very narrow and steep, no baby gate provided.

Thanks for your feedback. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay at Apple Tree Cottage. We try very hard to help and I was at the cottage by 9am the following morning after your arrival. As confirmed by Sykes, the description has not been changed. The property is described as "enclosed" which it is. This does not mean secure as this is subjective to each guests' pets or children. Apple Tree Cottage has a fence all the way around and gate with a bolt. I did come to the property to meet you and resolve your problems but you were not available. The description says the stairs are steep. Though our most frequent guest who is 89, has not had a problem. The stairs are typical of a 300 year cottage and it would be a shame to remove the cottage's character by putting in modern stairs. The description correctly states there is roadside parking. Previous guests have never had a problem here and, as Google Maps shows, there is 100m of unrestricted road serving just five houses. I am not sure why you could not park. When I came to meet you there were only four cars parked on the lane. We do state the cottage is situated beside a country lane and therefore some associated traffic noise can be heard but it is very peaceful as shown by previous guests' comments. Comfort of beds and sofas is subjective but we regularly receive compliments. We do not offer to provide a stairgate and do not state that we do. Property Owner

  • "Lovely comfortable stay in Appletree Cottage."

In a lovely village, perfect travelling distance to the Jurassic coast and surrounded by lovely villages, easily something to do each day. The cottage itself has everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The beds are comfy and the kitchen has every amenity you could need. I’ve noticed a few reviews mention the shower and feel it justified to say we didn’t find any issue. The garden is beautiful and lovely to relax in on a morning with a cuppa. Parking was a concern prior to arrival but we quickly found it was unfounded as we never had an issue. Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend to others. Clean, comfortable and obviously much thought put in from the owners to make stays as hassle free as possible. Thankyou for a wonderful stay.

  • "A lovely cottage in a great location for the village pub, shop, and local walks."

The cottage is only suitable for two adults really, three at a push. Unfortunately the ongoing maintenance of the house lets the property down, things that have been complained about by other residents for some time, namely problems with the shower, broken toilet seat, and overgrown garden. We therefore consider this property to be over priced.

Thank you for your feedback which did come as a surprise after your email saying "it's been lovely to visit Dorset again we've had a smashing week." You have repeated historic comments from the visitor book which have been fixed some time ago eg the shower and toilet. Over the last eight years many things have needed fixing and have been mended. The garden is an English cottage garden not a minimalist Chelsea Flower Show garden. We offered for the house keeper to come in but you declined so we were unable to help with any of the issues while at the cottage. Property Owner

It only cost 20.00 to replace and made all the difference x

Thanks for your feedback. We replace the shower head 2-3 times a year. This part of Dorset has the hardest water in the country and lime scale blocks the head. I had the new one to go on your changeover. Property Owner

Pretty back garden provides a lovely view from the kitchen/dining area. There is no window in the lounge. Generous supply of firewood much appreciated. Very quiet with comfy beds makes for very good sleep. General point the older part of the cottage is very old with steep stairs and low door heights. People much over 6' in height will have issues! Overall we had a lovely short break.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay. When we renovated the cottage we tried to preserve as much of the 1720s part but adding a modern kitchen and bathroom at the back. Hopefully it gives the best of both worlds but one or two doors are not modern heights. Property Owner

The cottage itself was cosy and very clean and tidy. Our only reservations were that the twin bedroom was too small to provide any storage other than a small bedside cabinet. The small rear garden was delightful and provided very useful rear access to the side lane where we parked our car.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Apple Tree Cottage. It is difficult in a 300 year old cottage to squeeze in storage in the second bedroom but there are under bed storage boxes as well. The fire in the lounge is lovely and cosy this time of year. Property Owner

It was a perfect location for us as it was only a short drive to the school at 8am each day. We also enjoyed cycling on the nearby cycle path just down the road in the light evenings. Everything worked well in the cottage and it was a perfect size for the 2 of us. I would think that it may not be so good for 4 adults as the bedrooms are so close in the tiny upstairs. The stairs were very narrow and steep which, if you are careful, is not a problem, but just to be waned. Beautifully laid out and exactly like it is in the pictures we couldn’t fault anything about this property. It was beautifully laid out and had everything you could need so many thoughts or extras they don’t always come with a holiday let. DVDs and games for the kids extra blankets a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine left for us and a Christmas tree put up which was brilliant as we stayed over Christmas with the children. For 3-4 people it´s big enough. There is actually everything available (washing machine / dishwasher / microwave / oven / fridge and freezer). The possibility for more than 2 people to make coffee is limited, as only a french coffee maker / pressure coffee is available. We will visit the area again in an early summer and then book the cottage again. It has a very nice little garden / seat to the rear, which we unfortunately could not use seasonally. Large food markets can be reached by car in 10-15 minutes, the coast in 30 minutes, the airport in about 1 hour. All conditions for a nice holiday were given. However, if someone can not climb up or down narrow, steep steps, the two bedrooms are hard to reach for these people.

The cottage is a bit out the way and very peaceful we took my 70 yr old mother and her friend and they loved it . It was hard to get the ladies organised in the morning which meant a team of cleaners arrived & were cleaning around us whilst we were still getting dressed . They were all standing around while my husband was still in a shower making us feel uncomfortable as he had to walk through with a towel in to go upstairs and get dressed , I told them we would be ready in 20 mins and thought they would have waited in there car but no they started cleaning around us .
