  • "Great cottage in a lovey quiet setting."

It was cleaner than last time but still not what I would expect, good job I used the vacuum cleaner mid week - it was blocked well & truly. After spending 10 mins doing the cleaners job & unblocking it I can confidently say that we left the property a lot cleaner than we found it. Oh, please add a whisk to the kitchen utensils.

Perfect location to get away from busy life.

  • "I've stayed at Ty Gwanwyn about half a dozen times over the last decade and have always enjoyed its peace and tranquility."

The people we deal with in the local office are always very helpful and pleasant. However, this stay was marred by the following: 1) refuse strewn around garden and loose in bins (which meant we had to do a litter pick and the bins had to be emptied and cleaned on arrival) 2) dishwasher not working - although it was replaced 1 week into stay 3) mattresses old, uncomfortable and need replacing (we mentioned this last time we stayed) I feel that 1) and 2) are unlikely to happen again if they are checked between lets. If the mattresses are replaced I would be happy to book this property again as otherwise it has never been a problem before.

  • "A lovely cottage with beautiful surroundings."

Very quiet and a short drive to the shops & town centre. Only complaint is, it wasn’t very clean.

  • "Hi we enjoyed our stay at Ty Gwanwyn."

The garden was great for our dog. The cottage is very secluded, surrounded by fields. The dishwasher was helpful and WiFi was ok. The doorway from the hall to the living room is too low and we hit our heads several times. So be careful of this. Great place to stay and only a few miles from supermarket to stock up.

  • "We were very pleased with the house (cottage) as it was just as listed."

Some places we have been have been listed as quiet and secluded and been next to a caravan park. This was truly a haven of quiet, except for the birds in the mornings but we were so happy to hear them. The garden needs some work but it kind of went with the solitude. The only down side is the trip to the loo in the night but there was no alternative. and we got used to it. We look forward to coming again when we can find the time & money. The rabbit became a friend and we looked forward to his visits each day.

  • "The DVD does not work."

The scart lead does not connect to the TV. Otherwise a pleasant stay and some good walking.

  • "In times such as these the presentation and cleanliness of any property is of great importance and should always be so."

All properties allowing for later arrival and earlier departure times should be able to allow for a deep clean. The minimal applied to this property. Going straight into the kitchen as you would upon arrival to unload. The CREAM curtains were mouldy. The same applied to all the curtains throughout the property with the added bonus of a SNAIL on the INSIDE of the curtains of the main bedroom. Cooker not cleaned, skirting boards not done and carpets in need of replacing in lounge area. We have used Sykes on a number of occasions and have never complained before or felt the need to do so. We have passed on our experience to all friends and family.

  • "The house is in a wonderfully quiet & secluded place, with a large garden."

The beds were comfortable but the sofa was not. Everything worked & it was well-equipped. Some of the house smelled a bit musty but it’s an old house in the Countryside! We were surprised at the lack of consumables that are usually provided in other holiday houses - soap, toilet roll, kitchen roll, dishwasher tablets- and we’re glad we checked on these before we went to do our shopping!

  • "The cottage is in a lovely peaceful location with excellent access to local beaches and coastal walks."

It could be fantastic if two things were fixed. 1. Replacing the tired/worn out furniture eg double bed mattress, sofa and arm chairs and 2. Tackling the clothes moth problem in the house. The décor is basic which is fine, but once again could be so much better with a little more TLC.

The property

This simple, unfussy, 300 year old house is tucked away along a short private lane.

Set in secluded grounds of about half an acre, surrounded by mature trees and meadows, it makes a perfect environment for families looking for a quiet holiday retreat.

The Pembrokeshire Preseli hills provide lovely views from the upstairs bedroom windows.

The National Trust beach at Mwnt is just over a mile away, with superb coastal walks to be had and many other hidden coves and bays to be discovered.

The resident Cardigan Bay dolphins and a variety of birds, butterflies and wild flowers are a delight.

In contrast, the bustling market town of Cardigan is about 3 miles away and just the other side of the Teifi estuary is the village of St Dogmaels with its medieval abbey ruins.

There are many local attractions, including the recently restored Cardigan Castle, yet this stretch of coastline remains relatively un-commercialised.
