"The property itself offered all we hoped for in terms of accommodation and location, which was in a lovely setting close to the coast."
Unfortunately however things didn’t get off to a good start when we arrived at the cabin to find the cleaner still busily sorting out the place from the previous occupants. He had apparently been informed he had till 4 pm to complete his task, when in fact our contract with Sykes stated we would have full access to the property from 3 pm! Having waited some 15-20 minutes for him to finish we then entered the cabin and were immediately confronted by the overwhelming odour of damp dog! Closer inspection also showed remnants of what appeared to be evidence of dog biscuit/chews scattered about the carpeted area of the lounge. Coupled with this the glass doors leading out to the decking were visibly smeared with unsightly dog slaver and paw marks. After opening all the doors and windows as wide as possible I then found the vacuum cleaner in one of the cupboards. Before switching it on however I was shocked to find it completely choked with dirt and dog hairs which rendered it useless in picking up anything at all! (Photos of this were sent to Sykes as proof) After spending several minutes emptying and cleaning it I then set about hoovering all the carpeted areas throughout the cabin, which, to my amazement, half filled the hoover back up again. Later in the afternoon following a visit to nearby New Quay in stopped to pick up some carpet deodoriser and air freshener from a local store. On our return to the cabin I then liberally sprinkled the deodoriser over the entire carpet and once again set to hoovering throughout. This process had to be repeated several times during our stay as the smell of dogs kept returning! This unpleasant situation plus the absence of any bin bags which were promised AND missing cushions from the decking furniture, which had obviously been removed prior to our arrival and were nowhere to be found, all added up to a disappointing experience on a trip we had very much been looking forward to! I understand that people are encouraged to bring their pets with them to properties of this nature, which I have no problem with at all! What I would expect however is for property owners to conduct a thorough and extensive clean after each visit, to ensure future occupants don’t have to endure a similar experience to ours!
We are very sorry you experienced such a start to your holiday. Regarding the timing on arrival I believe the cleaner was apologetic. It was a bank holiday and they had been extremely busy and were running late. If they'd been allowed to finish they'd have done the cleaning for you however you apparently insisted they "get out". The dog issues are a mystery as neither of the previous 2 guests before you brought a dog and they were complimentary on the cleanliness of the lodge. Very strange! We appreciate the feedback on the hoover and will look to replace it. There are cushions to the outside furniture which was purchased brand new for summer 2024. They are kept under the bed. They are very easy to find plus it does explain in the lodge guide that they can be found there. We are disappointed that you felt disappointed. Perhaps if the cleaner could have been allowed a few more minutes grace much of your dissatisfaction could have been avoided. Property Owner

"We enjoyed our stay at Moonshine."
The lodge was very clean and well equipped. The "hamper" promised in the description was disappointing, consisting of a packet of Welsh cakes and a pint of milk, fortunately we had taken our own tea bags.

Will return and would recommend.

"Beautiful spacious accommodation , accurately described by owners."
Excellent communication with them and site manager too. Peaceful setting on a small/ medium site in rural location but close to both Newquay and Aberaeron. Lovely forest walk for dogs which you can access at different points on site. Can definitely recommend if you want to be away from the crowds in an exclusive site.

"Lovely quiet site and lodge was great."
Clothes horse wouldn't stay up and water still staying in the shower. Had a great holiday lots of lovely local beaches and train ride to Devil's Bridge was worth every penny. Love Wales!

"The lodge was really nice, everything you could need for a Holiday was there."
Everything was clean and it was areal pleasure to stay there . There was good Wi-fi and the TV was freesat so we could stream ITV X (the adverts are a pain!!). The only hiccup was that the shower for the main bedroom took about 1/2 an hour to drain, this wasn't a problem for us as there was another shower and toilet for the single and this was fine. All in all we had a great holiday and would recommend this lodge to anyone. Roger & Yvonne Sheppard

The property
Situated upon Woodlands Park Resort, just outside New Quay in Ceredigion is “Moonshine”, a wonderful single-storey lodge. Moonshine sits surrounded by woodland, in a quiet corner of the park.
Its enviable tucked-away position affords occupants a delicious mix of peacefulness combined with access to the on-site facilities, including “The Bar”, a pop-up bar and coffee lounge (open for occasional theme nights), an onsite shop for essentials and a welcoming doggy boutique and free warm water dog shower.
While gorgeous woodland walks are available right from the door, only a short journey away are an array of beaches to visit, each with their own characteristics.
Whether you want to take in a stretch of the 60 mile long breath-taking Ceredigion coastal path, build sand castles, go crabbing, paddle board or spot dolphins, there really is something for everyone.
Which is why Moonshine invites four guests and up to 2 furry companions for a memorable seascape. The lodge benefits from off-road parking for up to two vehicles and is accessed up steps.
Entering into the open-plan living space, it is stylishly furnished with plush seating, a Smart TV, an electric fire, a dining table for four, and a sleek kitchen, housing all the expected appliances. Enjoy your nature-filled environment by dining alfresco, relaxing upon the decked veranda with a glass of wine in hand.
The environment is peaceful and nurturing, filled with the sound of birdsong and the gentle ripple of the nearby stream.
The veranda is wonderful for catching the afternoon and evening sun and if you enjoy star gazing you’ll be in for a treat with wide un-polluted skies above. There is a double bedroom with Smart TV and an en-suite with shower, plus a twin bedroom with en-suite access into the main bathroom / shower room. The local area is brimming with activities.
For the adventurous there is the Llain Activity Centre, where you can kayak or try your hand at paddleboarding or for a thrilling day out, why not visit Oakwood theme park.
For those that enjoy wildlife you will be spoilt by the numerous wildlife spotting boat trips along the Heritage Coast from New Quay, where seeing dolphins and seals is a regular occurrence.
While in New Quay, consider a visit to the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre, or discover the New Quay Honey Farm, showcasing bee exhibitions, led by a team with over 25 years of experience. Younger visitors will be kept happy with a visit to the Moody Calf play barn or one of the family friendly farm parks, and for those who enjoy culture why not visit the National Trust Georgian manor house at Llanerchaeron, designed by John Nash, the National Wool museum or just sit back and relax on one of the steam engine railways in the area. Named the “Best seaside town in Wales” in the 2022 Which?survey, the picturesque Georgian town of Aberaeron is only 4 miles away, famous for its harbour and colourful houses.
The town has numerous boutiques and restaurants to suit all budgets, and is also a fantastic place to enjoy traditional fish and chips, locally made honey ice cream and watch the world go by. The Woodlands Park resort offers its guests a quiet retreat at the end of a busy day of sightseeing.
If this sounds appealing, we would love to welcome you to Moonshine. A few welcome provisions will be provided to guests - basics to make that all important post journey cup of tea! Please note that Tesco, Morrisons and Asda will all deliver groceries to the lodge door.
Should you wish to organise this, please ensure you include the pitch number on the delivery address (19 Woodlands Lodge Retreat, “Moonshine”) so the driver can find you.
