  • "Although the chocolates were welcome we felt a bit of history about the town places to eat and visit would have been helpful."

The downstairs loo is noisy especially at night. We had a nice time though and the beach and surf were amazing

  • "Louise contacted us when we were on our way, so we felt very welcome and looked after."

We had a lovely, comfortable stay in a special cottage in a special place. Well done Louise for contributing to a much needed relaxed break. The cottage is very close to the beach and just a short walk from the harbour. Cullen is hilly, but we just took our time and even got to the top of Castle Hill on paths created by local volunteers.

  • "We had a fantastic week at Sandpiper cottage."

The cottage was perfect in every way, it had everything you would need for a comfortable family stay. You can tell it has recently been recently renovated and the finish and styling really suited the location and surroundings perfectly. The owner got in touch before we arrived to ensure we had all the information we needed and to let us know they were available if required for any help, that was a really nice touch. The location of the cottage and area itself was fantastic, for us it was a last minute choice in an area we hadn't explored before, we will be back, I just hope Sandpiper cottage will be available the next time. We have been to lots of cottages over the years this was the best so far.

  • "Lovely cottage to stay in, the owner has clearly put thought and care into the property."

It's in a great location with plenty of parking outside. Adults, kids and dog all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we were comfortable and warm throughout. It would have been helpful to have shelves in the bathrooms for toothbrushes, contact lenses, etc., otherwise we had pretty much everything we needed. We'd happily stay again.

  • "We were contacted well ahead of scheduled arrival with instructions for key and use of cottage."

We were party of 5 in our 70’s. Every one of us was highly impressed by the modernisation and decor of the cottage. It was spotlessly clean, beds comfortable, no noise. Plenty kitchen utensils mugs. dishes, pots etc Dishwasher, machine microwave all brand new. Bedding freshly laundered. All the home tastefully decorated. The owner was in touch a few times over the few days and proved very helpful. Especially appreciated is the en suite in every room plus one further bathroom upstairs. Just a few steps from the waterfront and harbour . Short walk to local amenities and a few excellent hotels serving delicious food and a few takeaway restaurants. Excellent and challenging 18 hole golf course yards away with lovely clubhouse and regular entertainment. Dolphin and osprey watch within 20 mile. Thoroughly recommend the cottage plus the 2 bedroom Eider Cottage attached. Thanks to the owner for making our stay so thoroughly enjoyable. We will revisit Sandpiper.

  • "We come every year to cullen staying in various cottages from various sites - never before have we had such a terrible experience."

The stay itself was lovely although it was odd the owner turning up on our doorstep one day unannounced and felt like we were being checked up on. It was on our return that things turned very sour. We were blamed for multiple reports of a damage that we were not responsible for. In addition to this although we agreed to pay for repairs as we were unable to prove otherwise, the owner invoiced us for total replacement of these. Eg a few broken bed slats - invoiced for a new bed. Some biro on a cushion - invoiced for 2 new cushions. They took our entire £350 bond. We are shocked and disgusted that Sykes and the owner could be so unreasonable. Will never use either again.

On reading this review we have received, it is evident that this does not mirror any of the other lovely reviews we have gained. We are glad you enjoyed your stay, and I do like to check in on guests to ensure they do not need any assistance or have any questions, which, as you can see from other feedback is greatly appreciated. In between changeovers, the property is thoroughly checked, and as damages were found, these were reported and photographic evidence and invoices were submitted. As is the case with the vast majority of holiday lets any damages must be paid for as owners could simply not continue to offer this service if we had to swallow these costs. The actual amount of the damages surpassed the £350 good housekeeping bond, as there were other examples that you have not mentioned in your review and we as owners will need to cover these costs. We will continue to offer beautiful holiday accommodation to a high standard, and continue to welcome guests that respect and enjoy our lovely home. Property Owner

About the location

CULLEN

Elgin 21 miles.

The Moray coastal town of Cullen is situated on Cullen Bay, an inlet of the Moray Firth, and is an extremely attractive town, originally built around the mouth of the Burn of Deskford. Modern Cullen comprises the delightful fishing village of Seatown and an ‘inland’ area, which stretches up an imposing main street from Seatown, underneath a spectacular viaduct. Although the wealth of Cullen was built on textiles in the 18th century, the town is best known for its fishing heritage, its name being given to a rich, creamy haddock soup known as Cullen Skink. Visitors can enjoy Cullen’s lovely sandy beach, the famous Ice Cream Shop, regarded by many as Scotland’s best ice cream parlour, a fine selection of shops and restaurants, and the historic city of Elgin is within driving distance.
