The Hen House

The Hen House is described as 'quirky' and it certainly is.

The interior is brilliant - well equipped, lovely and clean. It's bigger on the inside than the photos suggests and the bed has to be seen to be believed. However it could do with some rugs and cushions. (These may have been removed because we were bringing a dog with us). The TV is laughably small and the pillows uncomfortable. The outside is disappointing, functional if a little lacking in colour. There is a large space covered with stone chips. The space would make a wonderful garden, however it has just a few small trees and two pergolas. One houses a fantastic hot tub but the other was dirty and unloved. By the way everything needed to get the hot tub up and running was provided - including matches! Overall we had a nice, restful stay, but not quite a five star stay.

We loved The Hen House.

Fabulous accommodation - everything we needed was there. Super bed! We also adored the garden - our wee dog was in seventh heaven with the space and we thought the hot tub was perfect. We loved the estate and took different walks every day. To cap it all off - our last night was a pop up night at Wild Gorse cafe next door - a superb Greek night with amazing food, wine and atmosphere. We will return!!

We were very happy with our 'Hen' house,quirky holiday home,only very small issue was not having drying towels for cutlery&dishes we used,we purchsed ourselves,as we always endeavour to leave as we find.

Absolutely fabulous and appealed greatly to my love of the quirky.

The bed was extremely comfy and we woke up refreshed and look forward to returning. Not having a washing machine or dishwasher was not a problem understandable because of limit and beautifully decorated space. Next time we will bring a drying rack for drying items used in the hot tub and airing damp towels. Possibly a mop and bucket in the shed for when returning from the many fabulous but wet and muddy walks would be helpful as well as a quick guide in the information book for local essential shops etc

The Hen House is beautiful and was ideally situated for us.

Such a unique place to stay. Excellent standard of care and great personality of the place. Highly recommend. For those with mobility issues be aware the shower was combo with the bath tub not a walk in. That proved a challenge for us.

Nearby cafe very convenient (closed Monday & Tuesday). Enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

The hen house temperature was set at 22.

5 degrees and this couldn’t be changed. It made it very difficult to sleep, and both of us developed headaches because of the heat. This was reported every morning. The hot tub (the amenity I was most looking forward to) had to be filled and heated every time it was used, which took a minimum of 3 hours and 20 minutes according to the manual. This made it difficult to enjoy it while trying to relax on holiday. I also couldn’t fill it on the first night as it was pitch black outside and I couldn’t find the switch. On the second night, I filled it and lit the fire, but after 2.5 hours it stopped working. I managed to get it working on the fourth night, although it still took around 3.5 hours to heat. I eventually found someone on the estate who helped contact the owner’s son. He came over quickly, apologised and helped resolve the issue. He also adjusted the thermostat by accessing a second shed. Our final night was then more comfortable, but unfortunately the issues earlier in the stay had already impacted the holiday. Every Airbnb and similar property we’ve stayed in has had an owner who was easily contactable and quick to resolve problems.

Loved everything about The Hen House, pictures don’t do it justice!

Would love a fire pit to sit out at on cold nights to make use of that gorgeous enclosed garden. Highly recommend, we have booked again for next year.

A great place to stay

What a fabulous wee cottage.

The craftsmanship in the interior is outstanding. There is also a craft shop and restaurant( unfortunately not licensed)minutes from the cottage. The only negatives were the hot tub ( we had lots of problems heating it although Pamela did visit us) and no jets. It would benefit from an earlier check in.

The hen house is a lovely,quirky little home.

The surrounding area is quiet and beautiful, well situated for days out if you wish. If you don't want to venture out we found plenty of lovely walks on our doorstep.

The Hen house is by far and away the most beautiful place we have ever stayed, the craftsmanship is excellent, gorgeous comfortable bed and linen, well appointed kitchen and bathroom, great shower, the garden is stunning, very comfortable wee house in a great location, we will definitely be back.

It's kitted out with everything you would need and to a very high standard, the bed is super comfortable and the private outside area is neat & tidy. What a pleasure it was to be there.

Excellent, this was the 3rd time we have stayed at The Hen House in 9 months as it is just a very special property which feels like it is cuddling you.

This stay was for our Ruby (40th) Wedding Anniversary.

Absolutely loved our time here at the hen house.

Thank you for the kind welcome chocolates and wine. So much to see and do in the area and the grounds. Would also recommend at trip to Roberts farm shop even if its to see the cows and other animals. Hope we can book to come back here again soon.

The Location is brilliant too, not to far away from civilisation but far enough to enjoy the rural surroundings of the highlands!

A very nice little property thank you for the wine and chocolate .

Some information on local amenities such as doctor or dentists would I think be prudent. [We didn't need ] All in all a good facility.

We were a little warm at night and was unsure how to alter heating but apart from that a fab stay and a very well thought out cottage.

Hot tub was lovely!

This is the 2nd time in past 3 months we have stayed in this wonderful dreamlike property.

We experienced exactly the same feelings as we did on our first visit and it felt so us! So comfy, warm and peaceful…a total joy to stay. One tiny thing requiring a fix was the outer wooden door handle that had obviously come loose and needed a tighten, apart from that minor comment this property is maintained to the highest standard. Only a few minor things that could be better: - we couldn't fathom the light switches. They seemed to do different things depending on what order you switch them - the mirror in the bathroom was a bit high - another shelf in the bathroom would be good

Clean, crisp bedding, quality bathroom products, beautiful garden, everything we needed, very relaxing, beautiful quiet surroundings, modern TV, Alexa to play music

From the moment we walked into this “Fairytale” property we never stopped saying “wow” our whole break.

It was absolutely stunning, so quirky, comfortable, spotlessly clean, warm, great shower and the bed was out of this world. We didn’t want to leave and were so impressed we have already booked a return break in next few months! Sensational!

Amazing property!

Loved every part of it, and was very saddened to leave. It was incredibly peaceful and tranquil, and a perfect location for visiting local tourist spots. The little details such as wine and chocolate, music playing on arrival and the robes for the hot tub were just lovely. Hope to be back again soon. Thank you.

Great property on a lovely country estate, well placed for walking/hiking and visiting local attractions.

The Hen House itself is very well appointed and is a perfect base for couples looking for a peaceful base in beautiful countryside. The only downside is the absence of quality pubs/restaurants in the immediate area, so do some shopping and prepare to eat in.

Our stay in the Hen House was amazing!

The property was super clean, really well presented and we were even left a bottle of wine and some chocolates when we arrived. The location is beautiful, and is only a stones throw from lots of amazing places of natural beauty, allowing you to explore the highlands to the fullest! We had requested for all feather bedding to be removed as my wife is allergic, and were happy to see that not only had the bedding been removed, the whole property had gone through an extra clean to make sure no feathers remained, and we were left a little note by the cleaner explaining what had been done! Thank you so much, we had an amazing stay and can't recommend this property enough!

Beautiful property, high quality everything… amazing experience

Absolutely lovely, charming, warm, unique.

Snowy during our stay which made it even more magical. Very comfortable bed. Previously a hen house, albeit a very grand one, in the Victorian era when it was part of the Belladrum estate’s home farm. The whole property has been renovated and designed with impeccable taste: thoughtful touches like the quirky nightlights, guests’ photograph album, organic toiletries, retro fittings and of course the beautiful Balinese bed.

Couldnt fault the hen house really beautiful place it would be better if you could check in a bit earlier and the hot tub a pain to keep the wood burner going for a novice like us but i would recommend this place a great base for all surrounding attractions

This was a really, really cool place.

Newly remodeled, top-of-the-line fittings and furnishings, extremely cozy. It was great to have the hot tub (make sure you fire it up about 3-4 hours in advance) and the gazebo overhead made it suitable for any weather (although ours was great). We had a little mix-up when we arrived, which I only mention because Sykes, the owner, and the property manager all bent over backwards to correct it. To me, the true measure of service only comes when the inevitable mistake occurs, and the grade comes from the response, which was A+. Do not hesitate to stay here - you won't find a better property anywhere near.

Apologies for lateness in leaving this feedback - has been a busy couple of weeks since returning to the toddler.

First and foremost we wanted to thank you for our stay at The Hen House which we thoroughly enjoyed even if only for 2 nights. We were impressed by the quality of the design of The Hen House, the interior, electronics and setup with manual and the amazing wood fired hot tub! All of this added to a really enjoyable getaway which we have already recommended to others and will continue to do so. We'd very much like to book another stay at The Hen House in the near future! As the stay was pretty much all positive, there isn't that much to say around negatives or improvements but I will mention a few things for feedback: As we don't drink alcohol the gift bottle of wine was sort of wasted on us as a gift. We've stayed at similar small getaways and, on top of alcohol, a local delicacy - smoked fish, eggs or something of the sort is usually given as a welcome. This would have been a super touch! Permaculture Design could be applied to the courtyard to make it more lush and interactive and could easily house hens within the courtyard area. Organic grow spaces could be made amongst the large gravel area. Trees in courtyard need a good pruning. The Smeg coffee machine was great to use.  Bringing this into focus a bit more with extra brew making kit and organic milk would be fantastic. Mattress could be firmer to provide extra support and possibly less pillows. It's difficult to get to sleep first few nights when staying away somewhere if the mattress is too soft and sinks. Overall this is a 5 star piece of well crafted and finished accommodation. It's nicely thought out and has a really homely feel to it. Great travelling distance to Inverness and rest highlands. Highly recommend!

LOVED this property!

The Hen House is stunning. The finishing touches are absolutely lovely. We had a great break and of course, the hot tub is the icing on the cake. Can’t wait until we can make a return trip.

A lovely 2nd visit to the hen house.

We love the luxury of the house. maybe could have lowered the heating as the tempratures had risen and no way to lower it. Great location for visiting near by tourist places.

What a fantastic cottage this is and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

It was like a wee fairytale cottage, lovely and cozy, spotlessly clean and had everything you would need for your visit. I absolutely loved the bed with the amazing wood panel on the headboard and the amazing gates/doors at the bottom. The large mirror looked beautiful too. The only one thing I did not like so much were the seats. I did not find them very comfortable. The appliances were amazing and they have thought of everything you might need. The garden was lovely with 2 beautiful pagodas. One with seats and a table and one with an amazing hot tub. It is wood fired and the first time we used it my husband tried to cook me !! Next time he got the hang of it better :-) Even the fencing around this cottage was beautiful Chinese / Japanese style. As you can guess this was right up my street and I loved every minute of being there. We had lovely walks around the estate as well so it was a very relaxing stay. Thank you xx

Absolutely lovely petite cottage in a beautiful part of the world - somewhere different to see every day.

Beautifully finished, warm and clean. Thanks for the welcome pack! All fittings luxury and top of range making everything feel like a treat. The hot tub was great fun once we worked out how to get it going. Only reason not leaving 100% is the renovation work on adjacent properties is noisy. Once this is finished this will be a perfect and peaceful retreat and I'm hoping to book again for my son + daughter in law. Highly recommend!!

Let’s just say it’s a shame this house is not for sale/rent as we would happily move here!

The Hen House is in such a lovely peaceful area.

It was great to sit in the garden listening to and watching the birds overhead. The smell of the pine trees was fantastic and we even saw an elusive red squirrel on our last day. The accommodation was fabulous for a couple. We would definitely recommend this property and would love to go back again. It's quirky a bit like us! We were out and about a lot and didn't make use of the hot tub. Maybe next time.

The Hen House was a fairy tail residence in the beautiful Highlands of Scotland.

Fantastic use of space with only the best fixtures, fittings and appliances used. It was immaculate throughout with awesome attention to detail. Added bonus was the excellent outdoor space to relax and BBQ, and the Hot Tub was the dogs! All in all a superb base to explore the magnificent Scottish Highlands…. YES YES YES!!!

We have had a wonderful week in the beautifully renovated Hen House in Belladrum Estate.

We felt at home within minutes of being here as Pam and team had set the mood with music, wine and chocolate . A belated 46th wedding anniversary treat. Our thanks to Pam for her attention and for sharing her knowledge of the local area with us. Everyone was so friendly and we wish the team all the best on their restoration project. Not really to sure what I expected from the hen house and the surrounding area.

This property exceeded any expectations with great facilities and lovely friendly neighbours. Would definitely come again and use the hen house. Brilliant stay, Thank you

It was full of really nice touches and we will hopefully be back again!

Fantastic place.

Perfect for couples. Did not use the hot tub but think this is an excellent bonus for anyone who fancies giving it a try. Lovely little courtyard. Pity it rained a fair bit and we could not use it much. Peaceful setting, except when they are doing timber work nearby. Great appliances and extra comforts available in kitchen and bathroom. Only thing not too keen on was the armchairs were a little uncomfortable but propped up with pillows they were fine. Others may find them comfortable, it is just my creaky body…loved being able to access Netflix. Great WiFi connection considering such a rural setting.

Hen house was much better than we expected, lots of little added touches we weren’t expecting made it perfect.

We had no notification that there was a bacterial int he water which me drank for 4 day of the stay not only that there was wok men there everyday from 8 onwards which mad me feel like I didn’t want to get in the hot tub
