  • "This is a lovely wee place."

Accurately listed on Sykes. Comfortable beds, sofa, chairs etc and the garden is a lovely spot. Also, surprisingly private, considering it is a flat, it's easy to forget that. The kitchen is really well equipped, bread maker, slow cooker, baking stuff etc, I'd be surprised if anyone was short of something here. It's also really well done with electric blinds, induction hob etc, all really easy to use. The wifi is also easy to use and worked perfectly. The wee park out the front is ideal for 1st and last trips for the dog. Out the back, we had enough space to park and turn an estate and the wee local shop was ideal for small things. The welcome pack covers lots of things so we'll worth a read through. We didn't use the log burner, as it was mid-July, but this would be a lovely spot when it's on. All in all, this is a smashing place. We can't wait to go back. Top marks on upgrading it

Matthew, thank you for your lovely review and also once again for leaving everything so clean and tidy. Hopefully I’ll be welcoming you again in the not too distant future. Carol Property Owner

Thank you for your feedback, I’m glad you had everything you needed. I would however appreciate if you were able to let me know what you thought was amiss regarding the accuracy of the listing as Sykes Cottage initially drafted this and I have very slightly tweaked it over the years to this point at which I cannot think what is now possibly inaccurate. Additionally, you have marked it down on facilities and maintenance, yet your wording states it was well equipped and that everything you needed was there and worked well. Please let me know what faculties you considered to be lacking. Thank you. Property Owner

  • "This property is not suitable with people who has disabilities."

The laundry room was an old outside cupboard and hoover and other items had to be moved before use of washing machine, drying area was up a steep embankment and door to garden the lock wouldn't turn most of the time.I had to wait for my husband to open it as I have arthritic hands.

I’m very sorry you had problems with the property. Given that it is only a one bedroom property which is over 100 years old, there is little option for storing the hoover tidily and yet accessible to guests within the flat itself. Previously I had it locked away in another cupboard with my cleaning supplies, spares etc., but some guests had requested that it be left out for them go use, hence it now lives in the laundry/cleaning cupboard. There are no other items to be moved to access the washing machine, although the ironing board is also there, only the hoover sits in front of the washing machine door. I apologise for not appreciating that this may be difficult for someone suffering with arthritis. Similarly with the drying area, I had not appreciated that it may be difficult to reach, although, if you were to reach it via the grassed area it could be described as steep, but it is also accessible by the adjacent road which is uphill, but certainly not describable as a steep embankment. Additionally, as the location of the property is close to Loch Ness it is naturally a hilly landscape, so whilst I am unable to change that, there are also clothes dryers available in the property which could be used in the garden area to save accessing the outside dryer. With regards to the door, the locks are new as it was a requirement of the Scottish Short Teem Licensing Scheme that all doors were able to be unlocked without a key. I will however look at this and put some lubrication to loosen it. Property Owner

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback and for leaving everything so clean and tidy (unlike last weeks guests who left their dog’s poop all over the garden amongst other things, so I had a right old dash to get everything cleaned properly for you!) • "Lovely place to stay, Interior outstanding and Carol was really helpful & accommodating."

My only criticism is we thought we were renting a cottage only to realise that it was a flat when we arrived. Nothing against Carol she was so helpful, we were both unwell and hoping for a quiet relaxing stay only to return home on Thursday as work was being done in the flat upstairs so lots of banging and sawing!

Thank you for your feedback and recognition of my efforts. I have now requested that the description of the property be changed as, although it did not specify that it was an apartment, it did state that it was all on the ground floor and the main picture showed a 2 storey building. As I said in our telephone conversation, I can only apologise for the noise from upstairs, when I spoke with the owner previously he had assured me that noisy jobs would be completed on Saturdays during changeover hours (he works Mon to Fri, as do the tradesman he has working with him doing renovations). On this occasion, he was extremely apologetic as he said the building site they had been working on had been closed for the day due to the extremely low temperature do they decided to work on the renovations. The tradesmen had just not thought, and the owner had not warned them as he had originally planned only for weekend works. I was sorry to discover that you had gone home early and had not fully enjoyed your stay, but understood that as you were ill, you just wanted to be home and I hoped that you had a swift recovery. • "It was very well maintained and clean."

Loved the remote control blinds in the kitchen. The heating system was different, but adequate to our needs. Not sure it would be enough for a really cold day, but I noticed there were radiators in the property and I assume they would be functional when required. The shower was good and the bed was very comfortable. The seating in the lounge let it down as the sofa in particular and the chair were not that comfortable. I sat on the sofa for the first evening and my back was very sore. So I sat in the harder chair. Maybe ok for younger people, but when in your sixties, it’s not good enough. Next door had a party on Friday evening and were loud, which is fair enough, it’s Friday. But we knew we wouldn’t sleep enough before leaving on Saturday, so we left at 9.45pm. We will not consider having a holiday in an apartment again because of this experience as you are paying for a relaxing holiday.

I’m sorry that for you the sofa was uncomfortable and that there was noise, there has never previously been any noise from next door, so this was unfortunate. Update: I asked the neighbours, there was no party! Regarding heating, & wood burner, everything is fully explained in the welcome pack that I sent prior to arrival (and in the property). Other guests have described it as very cosy. As the listing is written by Sykes, I would appreciate detail of what you found to be inaccurate. Thank you Property Owner

  • "Hardly any hot water , for a bath and the shower was a trickle."

To top it off, they charged me a extra £75 ( For cleaning , I can only guess ) Total rip off

To address your feedback, the £75 was charged from your bond in order to get the property back to a respectable state after your stay as a lot of extra cleaning was required. Your booking was made the day before your stay but you arrived at least 6 hours early in a huge double glazing van which, when parked in the driveway, stuck out so much it almost blocked the road. The property was found stinking of chemicals by our houskeeper, so much so that he felt ill after spending 9 hours in there cleaning. He had to deal with silicone stuff (assumed to be from the double glazing business) stuck all over the bath, a soaking wet duvet covered in chemicals, and piles of dog faeces left all over the garden, as well as dirty burnt pots thrown back into the drawer. He had to disinfect the false grass area after removing the dog mess, wash door mats smelling of dog pee and gently scrape all the silicone from the bath amongst other things. He also found scratches on the top of my oak furniture in the bedroom. So all in all, with the replacement duvet cover, the additional cleaning time and products and the £95 plus VAT to repair the scratch, even with the additional cleaning fee, it has cost me to have had these guests stay in my little property which I take great efforts to make as perfect as possible for my guests. Thankfully, most guests are very respectful and appreciate the work which goes into making this a clean and welcoming place for a relaxing holiday. Property Owner

It’s a stones throw from the falls of foyers which is well worth a visit. The home was easy to find and easy access through the key safe. Lovely garden for the dog to the rear and space for parking. Unfortunately we couldn’t work out the heating system so our first night there was a very very cold one. I did try an ring the ownerl but couldn’t get through. We worked out that the pictures on the walls are actually heaters strangely. It would be good if this was explained in the welcome email just to avoid teething problems. Also be prepared for a cold shower. The shower system alternates from cold to boiling hot water in tandem. We tried having a bath instead but the same from the taps. Despite the above issues with the facilities we did have a lovely time.

Thank you for the kind words about the property and whilst I am very sorry that you had this bad experience at my property, I can confirm that the document containing all information and operating institutions for both the primary and secondary heating systems within the property was attached to the welcome email. I have also confirmed with my housekeeper that the property was heated on the afternoon of your arrival, the wood burner was set ready to light and there were sufficient logs for the period of your rental, most of which had been used by the time of your departure. The stove has a back burner which heats the radiators and water in addition to the immersion water heater and the IR heating panel picture heaters. Other guest reviews have only ever stated that the cottage was lovely and warm and cosy and I have received no other feedback or private messages regarding lack of warmth or hot water but I will have everything fully checked over prior to my next guests arrival. I do see that I had one missed call (but no emails or messages via Sykes) on the date of your arrival and I can only apologise for missing this call and can only assume this was because it was late evening and I would have been asleep (I was an hour ahead as on holiday myself on that date). About the location

FOYERS

Fort Augustus 13 miles; Inverness 20miles.

Foyers is a pretty highland village situated on the quiet eastern banks of Loch Ness and is accessed via a scenic single track road from Inverness that runs along the side of this famous Loch passing through various small villages until you enter Foyers. The village itself boasts a village shop and Post Office along with a friendly cafe, two hotels with bars and restaurants and an award-winning cafe with shop. Foyers is perhaps most famous for its spectacular 140ft waterfall known as the Falls of Foyers where the River Foyers drops into a gorge leading into Loch Ness. In Victorian times the Falls were very popular and visitors arrived to see them by paddle steamer from Inverness. The road from Inverness into Foyers can be continued through the village and along this quieter side of the world famous Loch and eventually you will arrive in the bustling village of Fort Augustus which has an excellent butcher, nice shops, restaurants and the famous flight of lock gates, often busy with boats. The area is ideal for walkers, cyclist and wildlife spotters and of course the scenery is second to none.
