"Thank you so much for a wonderful stay."
The cabin was so cosy, spotless and well equipped. I could properly switch off and relax on the balcony with a book and also enjoy a walk in Blackmuir forest from the cabin. Central heating, washing machine and tumble dryer were also a nice surprise. I would highly recommend. Beautiful part of Scotland, Strathpeffer is a quirky village to wander into too. Thank you.

Good Points: *Central heating *Washer dryer *Bedding reasonable *Birds in the little garden *WiFi Bad Points: *Appalling crockery & cutlery *Black mould under shower - cleaned it with bleach *Oven part of cooker had no racks in it plus dirty and fry pans filthy underneath *Fabric settees not clean and not hygienic in rented properties *Whole cabin covered in scratches and marks inside and out, generally looking sad and in need of a lot of attention

"We got lost initially in trying to find the lodge."
Best way is to use the sat nav The kitchen lightings needs extra light. We had a lovely quiet holiday at the cabin. Thank you.
-
"A very nice lodge."
The welcome basket was a lovely surprise, especially the sweets! If I could suggest one thing, it would be for a designated/signed parking space in the area by the other lodges, so that we would know that we weren't parking in someone else's space. Other than that, it was perfect!
-
"Stunning walks on the doorstep."
Perfect for me and my dogs. Very comfortable stay. Perfect location, loved it.

"Beautiful location directions and sat nav not clear had to call owner who ..."
Beautiful location directions and sat nav not clear had to call owner who answered promptly and gave us directions whilst driving if instructions had used bus stops on main road and large white house at beginning of lane as signposts it would have been easier to find we arrived in daylight if arriving in the dark in less favourable weather it would have been frustrating after a long journey also welcome pack was a bag of local sweets probably our misunderstanding but in other holiday let’s that’s has been milk at least this needs to be made clear as was frustrating to have to go to find local shop in the village for tea coffee and milk after journey Strathpeffer is a beautiful village and the lodge is in a peaceful location surrounded by lovely walks but as a group of 4 adults our opinion it looks and feels in need of refurbishment

"Freezer was not working and gardens could do with being tidy up out front."
Other than they two things the cottages was great.
-
"Could do with a secure garden for dogs otherwise we had a excellent time and would come back."
-

"The Lodge was great, all very comfortable and warm."
The welcome was very good. Provided with a small hamper and a bottle of Cava. So we had a great Christmas. Most likely will be back.

"We had a great time staying in Rowan Lodge."
It was lovely and warm when we arrived & as we had read other reviews about bringing a torch it meant that we could find the lodge no problem despite it being dark outside. The setting is pretty as it's right in the woods and we went on a lovely walk with the dog up into the hills and through the forest. There are lots of different walks you can take so it's a great area for hill walking and mountain biking. We were visiting our daughter so we were able to cater for our grandchildren who stayed with us for a few nights. The beds were very comfy and the lodge had everything we needed. Strathpeffer is very scenic and there is so much to do and see in the surrounding area. If you are looking for real peace and quiet then the lodge is ideal for getting away from it all. We think it would be really good to come back in the summer time as the deck outside is very spacious and ideal for sitting out watching the birds. Looking forward to our next visit very much.
-
"Amazing property and location, can't ask for anything more."
Dogs had the time of their life and so did we. Private, secluded lodge and so close to town if you want to see people. Great walks through the woods from your door.
-
"We've booked again for next year!"
Only two things that may have been helpful during our stay: 1) a torch in the cottage for darker night walks and 2) a shampoo/conditioner/body soap dispenser in the bathroom.

"FR/ AN Le loge était superbe."
The Rowan lodge was perfect. The house in located in the wood. It was really quiet and nice. The only flaw is to find the place ! We make 3 or 4 come and back in the town to find the localitation.

"Lovely lodge clean and very quiet great walking area hope to be back soon."
-
"Sfeervol huisje, schoon en een heerlijke veranda."
-
"Lovely place for a break, very peaceful and excellent facilities."
Directions to the property were confusing especially as the signage is poor and tricky to see.

Place was lovely and in a beautiful setting quiet and brilliant place to take your dog very clean and well equipped with everything you could need had a brilliant stay would recommend this to everyone
-
"Had a very enjoyable stay."
The lodge had everything you need! Beds were comfy, kitchen fully equipped, utility room also. Central heating made it very cosy. Very central location where you can explore the highlands. Highly recommend.
-
"Rowan Lodge location was more than what I expected, infact it was breathtaking."
To step out your front door and be in the middle of the woods was just amazing. My only constructive criticism would be to have another lamp on the living area rather than having the overhead lights on, as they do glare a bit would be better, and to have some security lighting down the path, if I’d have know. It would be that dark from the car park to the lodge I would have brought a torch. Other than that I will be recommending this little gem to everyone I know, and I’ll defo be returning. Helen Bush

"Absolutely loved this lodge."
Fabulous break away in a quiet location. Everyone was so friendly and the little birthday gift made the welcoming even more special. There is an outstanding little sweet shop down the road highly recommended. We would love to return. If you travel abit down the road by car Chanonry Point has a beautiful unspoilt beach.
-
"Lovely start to our holiday around Scotland."
We were only two so the extra space was lovely. It was private and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. The bed was comfy with plenty of space.
-
"Well appointed and maintained."
We were grateful for the well kitted out kitchen. Very peaceful, comfortable and convinient base to explore the surrounding hills. Would stay again and recommend.

"We stayed 16."
2.22 / 19.2.22 had a fantastic stay here especially with the snow made it more beautiful. Dogs especially loved all the woodland around . Had to contact the owner for boiler she was fantastic had it up and running immediately. Some thing can be doing with a little update but was perfect for us and our dogs. You couldn't have asked for a cabin anymore well equipped with things you need for your stay unfortunately we had to come home early due to family illness at home . Will definitely return one day .
-
"A fantastic lodge in a great location."
The owner kept me up to date with some local issues prior to arrival. It's in a very peaceful spot with a great local walk and easy access to local amenities. I would highly recommend to anyone.
-
"Perfect location for relaxing break."
Particularly good if you are a dog owner as superb forest walks are literally on your doorstep. Owners very helpful and friendly.
-
"The lodge is very dark inside and outside due to lots of nearby trees so didn't benefit from the sunshine."
Better lighting inside would help, especially in the kitchen area. The garden is not enclosed and it is quite a difficult walk to transport luggage and heavier items from the communal parking area to the lodge. Location is great for walks and exploring the area.
-
"Lovely ,comfortable lodge in woodland setting ,with all the amenities required."
Large picture windows and doors with a veranda for the warm Scottish days ! Our dog loved looking at the woodland and my wife ,who is a keen birdwatcher enjoyed the variety that came to the feeders. Excellent area for dog or general walking directly from the lodge. Well situated for exploring the wonderful surrounding, beautiful area and historic sites. Friendly, helpful owner readily available in case of questions, she runs the sweet shop and ice cream parlour in the square in Straphpeffer, well worth a visit in its own right. We are frequent visitors to Scotland and would definitely seek out Rowan lodge next time we are in the area. Highly recommended.
-
"Unaware that we would be close to other lodges."
Difficult to locate.
-
"Just coming out of a pandemic I would have thought that the veranda/outside seating area would have been cleaned, ready for use."
The table was filthy, one of the chairs was broken and cobwebs everywhere. Floor hadn't seen a brush for goodness how long! The interior of the cabin was spotless and very comfortable. The wee extra touches of dog treats and sweets for us left by Fiona were very welcoming as was her help with the wifi connection. The weather was kind and we had lots of beautiful walks with stunning scenery.
-
"The log cabin location is excellent."
Facilites and accommodation good. The only item was the noise of the boiler. It was quite noisy during the night.
-
"The village of Strathpeffer is lovely and the Highlands in general are very scenic."
If you like fresh air and walking the dog then this is a great location. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of places have closed due to the pandemic so you need to actually talk to business owners to make sure that they are actually open (as opposed to what a website may suggest) and if you have a dog that you can take them with you. But with that proviso we still managed to find great places to eat and had a wonderful time away from the hussle and bussle of large cities!

"Had a fantastic time"
-
"Only spent a few days in this lovely cottage as had to rush home back to Bristol as son was ill."
.But hope to visit again 1 day once this virus is over.
-
"Rowan lodge is a set in a great location, peaceful & relaxing with enough local shops should you need it."
This was a great base for us to explore the highlands. The lodge itself is perfect; cosy and comfortable, with some nice walks on your doorstep. I will definitely look to return.
-

"Lovely location very helpful owner"

"We enjoyed a fabulous family retreat in Rowan Lodge surrounded by nature in Blackmuir Woods."
The chalet was cosy, well equipped and the welcome pack left by our kind host much appreciated on arrival. We had everything we needed for a most enjoyable 5 night stay. Deer prints in the snow surrounding the chalet produced much excitement as did watching the bluetits and other birds feeding from just outside the window. We enjoyed lovely walks in the woods and around Strathpeffer. From up the nearby hill we could see Red Kites soaring and landing in close proximity. Inverness is only half an hour away for shopping, cinema, Aquadome. Unfortunately the icerink was closed for maintainance. We would love to return to this location and highly recommend this group of chalets to anyone wanting a Highland retreat.
-

"Arrived at Rowan lodge quite late and we had difficulty finding in the dark so got in touch with Jane who was great guided us to the lodge and welcomed us, it was decorated all Christmassy and looked beautiful."
She also left us a lovely hamper which we all enjoyed throughout our stay over Xmas 2018, the lodge is located in the forest and the walks in the area are brilliant. The lodge itself had everything you need for a stay of every kind. Would love to return again for a longer length of time for sure. Many thanks Jane for a wonderful Christmas break from Helen, Delme, My daughter Keisha and Boris the dog

"Rowan Lodge was the perfect lodge for holidaying with my dog."
The location was absolutely amazing, right on the doorstep of Blackmuir Wood, with lots of lovely walks right from the doorstep. The lodge itself was warm and cosy. The kitchen was supplied with every cooking utensil and facilities you would require, including a chest freezer and washing machine. The living room area was perfect for relaxing, comfy sofas and large TV to relax at the end of the day. The bathroom had the best of both worlds with both a large bath (plenty of hot water) with a really good shower over the bath, lovely large bath towels also supplied as part of the rental. I had a fantastic week's stay and will definitely return.... Thank you Maria

Needs information sheets in lodge on area. Hoover in lodge needed cleaning out before use. Fence on veranda needs looking at as my border collies can fit through gaps.

The property
A cosy yet spacious log cabin, privately situated in a pretty woodland setting, on the outskirts of the spa town of Strathpeffer in the wonderful Scottish Highlands.
This charming log cabin is one of a few similar cottages occupying this tranquil location, an ideal base for small groups of family or friends who will appreciate the history of the village, and the beauty of the surrounding countryside.
This ground floor Highland cottage has two neat bedrooms and a family bathroom, and the bright and airy open plan living area has a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable settees, and French doors leading to a large private balcony, a simply perfect place for a quiet read and a glass of wine.
The surrounding Blackmuir Wood is ideal for gentle walks and offers lovely westerly mountain views, with links to other well-signposted walks around the town.
Strathpeffer also boasts excellent cycle paths, and the chance to hire bikes in the village if required!
The area is rich in wildlife and close by you will find the RSPB Tollie Red Kites nature reserve, where red kites can be viewed from a specially-converted farmstead building.
Strathpeffer is ideally placed for touring the wider area of the Northern Highlands, and Loch Ness, the Isle of Skye, and the Cairngorm National Park can be accessed quite easily.
However, during the summer months ensure you are back in time to hear the District Pipe Band and Highland dancers performing for visitors on Saturday evenings, a truly wonderful experience!
After a day exploring this wonderful, unspoilt region, this Strathpeffer log cabin is the perfect Highland holiday home to return to.

About the location
STRATHPEFFER
Inverness 20 miles.
Often compared to a Bavarian Mountain resort, the picturesque spa village of Strathpeffer owes its growth to the discovery of water springs during the 1700s, and was declared in 1819 to be the healthiest drinking water in Britain! The original Spa Pavilion has been magnificently restored after a period of disuse and now serves as a venue for a variety of events, including concerts, dances, dramas and exhibitions. The former Victorian railway station, which in times past brought many visitors from near and far, has now been beautifully restored to house craft workers and their shops, and is also home to the Highland Museum of Childhood. Visit the restored Pump house (also a Tourist Information point), take a walk along a forest track, or enjoy the views from the nearby pictish hill fort at Knockfarrel. Whatever you decide there's plenty on offer for all the family.
