Description

Kilchoan 4 miles.

A charming stone-built detached cottage, superbly located on a hillside in the small, isolated village of Portuairk, the most westerly settlement on the British mainland, at the western end of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. From its elevated location this Scotland cottage provides breathtaking views over the sea to the Isle of Skye and the small islands of Muck, Eigg, Rhum and Canna. This Scotland self-catering cottage would suit those who want to appreciate the tranquillity and stunning landscape, with its fabulous sandy beaches and abundance of wildlife. The cosy accommodation in this Scotland cottage includes a well-equipped kitchen, a bright sitting/dining room with woodburner. The double bedroom is very spacious and comfortable, ideal for a restful sleep after a day of boat trips, sandy beaches, island-hopping and good walking. All the windows of this Scotland cottage look out over the sea and across to the fabulous sands of Sanna Beach, a short walk away. The neat and private front garden has a patio with dining area - a great place to enjoy an alfresco meal or drink. The nearby village of Kilchoan has a well-stocked shop and is also the ferry terminal providing regular daily trips across to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, so why not nip across the waters to enjoy a meal out on Mull or perhaps do some shopping in the nice array of shops Tobermory has to offer? The nearby Ardnamurchan Lighthouse is well worth a visit, with its welcoming tea room, and there are some good hotels within a short drive of your Scotland cottage. In fact this is a wonderful place to visit, whether for outdoor pursuits or to simply relax, chill out and enjoy the hills, sea and beaches.

Lovely cottage but the bed was not comfortable.

It would be nice if there was milk on arrival and maybe some bread. There was a horrible smell in the passage next to the back door. Not the cottages fault but I dropped my ear buds when we arrived I didn't realise until the morning we left. As its a no through road with just one more house and a caravan im sure someone must have picked them up! £200 worth of ear buds im gutted!!!

We had to get used to the ‘strange’ smell near the bathroom which we presume was the septic tank, but it did not spoil our stay at Mary’s House.

We loved it all and were beginning to to feel like locals when our stay came to an end, a delightful week in the most wonderful and secret place in the British Isles.

Probably the cleanest property we have ever stopped it with good quality amenities.

Loved our stay. The only negative is a strange smell in the bathroom that we think might be from the drains but it didn't stop us from giving 5 stars. Portuairk is a very quiet and peaceful place. Lovely beach both there, at Sanna and Bay MacNeil. Not a lot to do but explore the beaches and walking but that's exactly how we like it. I would advise at the moment (until the new shop is built at Kilchoan) to take all your groceries with you or stop off at Fort William to load up with supplies on your way here. There is a pop up shop in the community centre at Kilchoan for basic goods and a Coop at Tobermory. Mull is well worth a visit by the way. I can recommend the fish and chips! The only traffic jam we encountered was a herd of cows in the road who were in no particular hurry to move out of the way!
