  • "Lovely cosy property which is well equipped and is in a good location."

The owner couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome, leaving us with confidence if anything did go wrong, which it didn't.

  • "We had a really pleasant stay at this property."

There were a few things however that did slightly affect our overall rating. The Bannister railings upstairs on the right were loose. That was a safety concern for us as we had to be careful not to hold onto a certain part of it .Particularly as we had a child. The upstairs bedroom windows didn't have any blinds or net curtains so the house opposite could see right in .This again was a privacy and modesty concern. The bath was not very deep therefore slightly uncomfortable in the bathroom . The small stool seat in the main bedroom near the dressing table was broken so you couldn't sit on it properly . The WiFi was unfortunately not a good coverage. We couldn't watch catch up TV properly or it would buffer alot whilst loading. These are all things that could be easily addressed though .We enjoyed our stay and the facilities overall were good. It was a cottage full of character in a beautiful area.

Hello Laura - many thanks for your feedback. I'm pleased you found the facilities overall were good but sorry you had some concerns. These will be addressed where necessary. I checked the bannister yesterday and I noticed one spindle was slightly loose which I shall get mended. Both bedroom windows have curtains (but not nets) and the dressing table stool is not broken, but must be positioned over the base correctly. When I was cleaning I may have knocked it out of position. Apologies. I'm sorry to hear about the wi-fi coverage as I always test it myself when I clean - it's always rated 'excellent' on the tests I do and it has never been a problem so far - so I'll take another look at it. I'm afraid I can't install a new bath unfortunately but although it's quite small (to has to be in order to fit in a cottage bathroom)I don't think it's particuarly shallow? There's also a good over-bath shower. My husband and all my grown up family have stayed (son in law is 6ft 7ins) and I haven't had any complaints from them. I did go to considerable lengths to transport and lend you my own baby equipment and had numerous communications with you about the in-situ fitted stairgate, so although I always welcome constructive feedback, I'm a little surprised that your public review is predominantly negative. • "Our second visit to this lovely cottage."

Thanks to Kate the owner for lovely gift basket and especially for the generous £30 gift behind the bar at Richard 3rd pub for being return guests. It was really unexpected and we had a great meal. The cottage is a great base to visit the area. I stayed again with my now 5 year old granddaughter, who stated she wanted to live here. It was great for a day out at the Forbidden Corner, just 5 minutes up the road. We also had a day out at Lightwater Valley just over half an hour away. Baymor ice cream parlour was only about 6 minutes away and had great play areas. Looking forward to returning again next year

The cottage was as described and Kate the owner got in touch before our stay to advise of different attractions, eateries etc. we were very lucky with the weather during our stay and so viruses the cottage as a base to visit Newby Hall, web adventure park, Brymoor ice cream parlour, forbidden corner and Jervaulx Abbey. We also dined in the local pub and enjoyed the fish and chip shop. The village is small and quaint and the locals all friendly. There is also a lovely little park nearby. We had a lovely stay and would recommend to family and friends!

Hello Rachel - so pleased to hear you had a lovely stay and thank you for your enthusiastic comments here, as well as in the cottage's Visitors' Book. Your recommendations for lovely days out are much appreciated too. They're all such magical places! Best wishes Kate Property Owner

  • "Lovely cute cottage right in the centre of Middleham."

Easy access to lots of places of interest. Steep climb upto the cottage which I struggled a little with especially with cases but thats because I do have some mobility issues but I managed it. The stairs in the property to the bedrooms are steep too. The property was clean and tidy and beds were comfortable. Quiet location considering it's in the middle of the village near a pub but you couldn't here anything from the pub. Would recommend to friends with better mobility than me

Hello Elaine - many thanks for taking the time to write a review. The path to the cottage is on a slight incline and the old cobbles (only for 2-3 metres under the arch) can make it tricky to pull a wheeled suitcase but I hope this wasn't too much of a problem and thanks for pointing this out. I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay, found lots to do and found the cottage clean, tidy and quiet. Best wishes Kate Property Owner

Facilities were good and the welcome pack was lovely. If you are a little unsteady on your feet, access will be difficult as the cobbles and slope can get greasy in the wet but overall a good value property.

Many thanks for taking the time to write this useful feedback. I'm pleased you liked the cottage and the welcome pack. In the meantime I'll ask Sykes to mention that the path to the cottage can be slippy if it's wet. Best wishes Kate Property Owner

Hi Michelle - many thanks for taking the time to give feedback. Happy to hear you liked the cottage. Our (delightful) neighbour uses the cottage next door as a second home so is only resident on a few weekends and odd days per year. Remarkably quiet for such a central location and the courtyard is a suntrap from early morning to mid afternoon. Lovely dog friendly walks from frontdoor and excellent facilities, pubs, cafe, shop and castle only short walk away. As can be anticipated in a mews cottage the stair is steep and narrow also cobbles on access path might not be easy for anyone with mobility issues but otherwise idyllic. I had no issues but owner was very accessible by text.

  • "Cottage was lovely and comfortable and welcoming."

One suggestion, the welcome pack comprised of a bottle of wine, doggie biscuits and some tea bags (which was a lovely thought), however, perhaps a pint of milk would be a nice touch in the pack. Only reason I say that is, anyone who travels a quite a distance, they could just go into cottage, have a cuppa immediately, without thinking 'I have to go to the shop'. As I say, that is just a suggestion, not a criticism. We would recommend your cottage to friends. Area is beautiful and The Richard 111 pub is a must for meals.

Now that the house behind is sold hopefully the new owner will cut down the garden which will make it much lighter inside.
