  • "Absolutely wonderful cottage, really beautiful location lovely views and Claire is a lovely host."

  • "We have recently returned from a wonderfully relaxing break at this lovely property."

Rowan Bank is situated behind electronic gates in a very peaceful location with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside and is very comfortably furnished with everything you could possibly need. We have never used a woodfire hot tub before, but it was very easy to use and no problem at all. We felt very much at home during our stay and will definitely return sometime soon and would not hesitate to recommend this property to family and friends. Thankyou Claire for making us feel so welcome!!

  • "Just got back from a few days at Rowan Bank."

The accommodation is very comfortable and well equipped, with lots of extra touches, the kitchen has everything even a garlic crusher! Shower and beds great. The under floor heating kept it toasty as did the log burner. But the views and location are what make this place extra special! Nestled in to the countryside there are views across the valley from the amazing windows and you can see the weather coming! Claire gave us a great welcome and told us of the short walk to the waterfall which you can hear as you sit in the hot tub! Sitting in the hot tub looking at the stars was a highlight for us all as were the barn owl’s who coursed along the hill side. Don’t forget to take binoculars as the bird feeder was a busy spot and great to look at as you drink your morning coffee! Thanks Claire and Steve we loved our first visit to the beautiful county of Yorkshire.

  • "Property was ideal for us as a sort of base for day trips to Leeds/York etc."

The property itself was really really nice. We loved how modern it felt with the facilities and interiors. The underfloor heating was essential given how cold it was outside and the log burner was very nice at nights. The hot tub was very nice but sadly with the times we got back from our day trips we weren't able to put it to it's full use. With our stay we had very little reason to contact the owners but in our few interactions with Claire she was very friendly and helpful and patient with us explaining the different procedures and operations of the lodge. Would 100% stay again. We both agreed this was the nicest place we have stayed at on a holiday/break away

I can safely say that this was the perfect place for it! The accommodation was spotlessly clean, comfortable and quiet. The views are spectacular and there are some fantastic walks for all abilities straight from the converted barn. The Swedish woodfired hot tub was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed having an evening soak after a day's walking up hill and down dale. There are also lots of attractions and places to visit too so if you want a day out exploring then you're perfectly located. If you are looking for some peace and quiet in a beautiful area then I highly recommend Rowan Bank. We would love to come back and stay again in the future!

Claire greeted us when we arrived and showed us around the accommodation. She was very helpful and welcoming, explained things, and gave us recommendations of things to do in the area. There was also a very useful information folder with more suggestions of local areas of interest, places to eat, walks to go on etc which came in very handy. The property itself was in a lovely rural location. It was spotless, very well equipped with everything you could possibly need, and warm and comfortable, with the added bonus of a wood fired hot tub which was great after a day out walking and exploring! We would thoroughly recommend.

The accommodation is to a very high standard and the location is idyllic. The wood burner and the hot tub are great benefits, and the whole place is beautifully laid out and very comfortable. Clare and Steve are lovely and have plenty of advice and tips on the local area, if you need it. Don't be put off that it's semi-detached - we didn't hear a thing through the wall. It's clearly been properly constructed to maintain privacy and peace and quiet. The setting and views are beautiful - loads of wildlife right on your doorstep - absolutely fabulous! Very convenient for the Dales. Wonderful place - would highly recommend - and we hope to be back!

It had all we needed for a relaxing stay. The only criticism I had is the bed in the main bedroom. It is two singles pushed together, not a “proper “ 2 person bed. Consequently its not only short in length but has a noticeable (uncomfortable) dip into the middle. It really was quite uncomfortable and a pity as the rest of the accommodation was excelllent.

My husband and I booked a few nights stay as a work retreat. The property was exactly as advertised and was even more cosy in real life! It was so well equipped and spotlessly clean. The location and views were stunning. We planned on eating out for a couple of nights but the place was so cosy we didn't want to leave so we headed to the local Aldi and stocked up on meals and hid away enjoying the log burner and hot tub in the evenings. Claire, the owner, was fantastic, so lovely, very helpful and welcoming. Thanks Claire, you have a little gem here and thanks too for the lovely treats ;-) One thing I would add that the photos don't show is that the windows in the lounge have remote control blinds on them and the large window in the dining area has a barn door that closes so at night it's very private. We totally recommend Rowan Bank and we will definitely be returning!

There are stunning walks from the barn up into the hills and along the canal path to Silsden/Riddlesdon. Our teenage daughters loved the high rope course at Raven Tree Top Adventure in Skipton and Harewood House (near Leeds) is worth a visit. The homebaked bread still warm on arrival a great touch, information folder full of walks in area and other things to see and do very helpful, but , not as helpful as our hosts personal touch.

The beautiful accommodation was spotless and the views amazing. There were also lovely little touches that made all the difference, from essential food goodies (including warm bread) upon arrival, to binoculars to watch the spectacular wildlife. The location is excellent for exploring the local area and there are lovely walks right on your doorstep as well, including a path adjacent to the cottage which leads you to three waterfalls. Our highlight was enjoying the evening sunset, whilst sat in the hot tub watching the resident barn owl. A trip we would definitely like to repeat and would highly recommend! Rowan Bank is even better than the photographs. Everything is high spec, spotlessly clean and attention to detail all thought through. The views are astounding, with walks from the door, total privacy and peace and quiet to enjoy those views and the very special hot tub. We were extra lucky as it had snowed, so everywhere looked like a winter wonderland yet all roads were clear. Claire and Steven, the owners, we're really welcoming, providing a welcome pack of goodies and heating the wood fired hot tub so it was ready when we arrived, and when we got back from a day out. We mentioned in passing a non-slip mat would be good in the gorgeous shower, a few hours later they delivered a new mat to us. Everything you need in the kitchen is there, the beds are very comfy and the wooden shutters completely shut out the light. And there's Netflix too! We had the most perfect weekend and it was very hard to leave.

  • "Rowan Bank and its owners, Claire and Steve, absolutely exceeded our expectations."

The photographs are very accurate but Rowan Bank feels even more beautiful and stylish when you're there. Claire greeted us and as we were arriving a little late due to work, Claire had already started the fire for the hot tub so that it was ready for us to use when we got there. We were then greeted by prosecco, Yorkshire crisps, and homemade bread! The style of the cottage is absolute beautiful and has been finished to such a high standard. The beds are extremely comfortable and the place has everything you could need - hairdryer, towels, iron, wood, butter, milk, hangers, all of the plates and utensils you could need, and more! After utilising the fire and hot tub, which Claire advised us on, Claire then delivered more wood to us the next morning. One night we struggled to get the hot tub warm and after sending Claire a text, her and Steve popped over and got it going for us! They were so helpful and we were so impressed with the service, cottage, and location as a whole package. The views are incredible, even on a rainy day. There is also Netflix on the television which is a great addition whilst sitting around the fire. We wouldn't hesitate to come back and I'm not at all surprised to see that all of the reviews have been so good.

Absolutely wonderful holiday, the cottage was spotless and well equipped. The owners are, friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. The scenery is breath taking. The night time views are spectacular as the surrounding towns lights shine through the trees like Christmas lights twinkling in the dark. It’s very rural feeling without being remote, you wouldn’t believe that just a short drive away, you come to the nearest supermarket and a little further is the Town of Silsden, with a post office a grocery store and a lovely little bridge over Silsden Beck, where you can stop and feed the ducks. The owners have compiled their own folder of nature walks and trails some leading to the 3 magnificent waterfalls, which are picture framed in the cottages. The surrounding area is buzzing with life. Tweeting birds and a whole host of wild birds from partridges and pheasants just to name a few. Not forgetting the wild animals. There are some sheep who like to come for a visit and If you are lucky you can catch a glimpse of the stag. There are plenty of other animals and rodents hiding in the long grass for you to find. We have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our holiday and can’t wait to return next year. We just had to book the cottage again. We can’t praise and thank the owners enough, they have been fantastic, they even got this cottage ready for us so we could extend our stay. Looking forward to coming back. We Highly recommend Rowan Barn and the adjoining Ash Barn Cottage. We give them both, 10 out of 10 and we give the owners 10 out of 10 for their warm welcome and their attention to detail and their willingness to make sure you enjoy your stay Mr and Mrs Macdonald,

About the location

SILSDEN

Bolton Abbey 8.5 miles; Ilkley 8.5 miles; Skipton 9 miles.

The pretty town of Silsden, set on the edge of the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, commands sweeping views of the River Aire and its valley, and has a thriving community with local amenities. Although Silsden was originally an agricultural town, the construction of the nearby Leeds and Liverpool Canal meant that it later became an important centre for the mill industry, however the local economy is now largely supported by tourism, and it has become a perfect place to stay and explore the local area. Down the Aire Valley lies historic Skipton, known as “The Gateway to the Dales”, a quaint market town boasting an ancient castle open to the public, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled setts each side of the high street. In 2008, the Academy of Urbanism voted the high street as the best shopping spot in Britain. In the next valley lies Addingham, a thriving, small community with several good pubs serving fine ale and excellent food, a scattering of small shops and a delightful golf course surrounded by breathtaking countryside. Nearby Bolton Abbey is one of the region's most scenic areas and the walk along the river to the Strid is a must. The Victorian Spa town of Ilkley is also worth a visit, with its wide streets, world-famous Box Tree Restaurant and Bettys Tea Rooms, while Ilkley Moor is the subject of Yorkshire's unofficial anthem “On Ilkla Moor Baht at”. With steam railways offering regular excursions through stunning scenery, canal day trips, castles and pretty market towns all available nearby, Silsden is a wonderful base for touring the Bronte Country and North and West Yorkshire.
