  • "We felt that the table arrangements were not easy."

To move the table out was quite difficult and when in the room there was not much space in the sitting room and if you left it in situ for just two people with one leaf up it was very difficult to make your way through from the kitchen. The stairs were very very steep with an awkward step at the top to navigate into the bedrooms.Whilst this was OK for us we feel it should be mentioned in the description in case elderly people or those with walking disabilities were considering this cottage

Sorry to read your very negative review. Had numerous elderly visitors stay over the years as recent as April 24 aged 82. We never had any complaints about the stairs or other mobility issues. We take pride that our cottage is very clean as mentioned in previous reviews. Therefore do not feel the a score of 75% is accurate/fair . Hope you enjoyed the cake and biscuits to we left out for you to have with a cuppa. A word to any prospective dog owners booking that the back yard is shared with a neighbour and the back gate doesnt shut properly. ( an easy problem to fix ? )

The outside pipe had been been lagged just prior to your visit to prevent bursts which we have to do every year in November. There was plenty of towels under the stairs for you to clean your dog with. Another extra we provide when other cottages don't..No one has ever had a problem with the gate previously. We will attend to this so thanks for letting us know. Property Owner

Aileen and Colin have literally thought of everything! The whole accommodation is absolutely spotless so hats off to the cleaner - I was very impressed! The cottage is ideally located for easy access to Aysgarth Falls, Castle Bolton, Leyburn, Hawes and Richmond with plentiful walks from your doorstep, so much so that you could park your car up and not touch it again for a week. There are 2 pubs within a couple of minutes walk, and 2 more in Carlton and Wensley which are a 5 minute car ride away or as part of a walk for a well-earned pit stop pint and bite to eat. The added bonus of an enclosed garden was perfect for our dogs as well as being a lovely place to relax and unwind in the sunshine. I would highly recommend Myrtle Cottage, its just perfect in every way.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. Glad you had a nice time. Will pass this onto our cleaners. Property Owner

The property was well maintained and immaculately clean and pleasantly cool as our stay there was during an extremely warm spell. Beds were comfortable, clear instructions were given for the shower room and its ventilation and a good supply of fresh towels was available. The kitchen was well stocked and a welcoming cake and dog treats awaited us. The owners left lots of information regarding local walks, nearby pubs, places of interest etc. The rear garden was a sun trap which we made good use of. Altogether a very reasonably priced cottage for a peaceful get away and we would definitely return.

The two parking locations suggested by the owners were not available, therefore we decided to park at the village playing fields which was about a quarter of a mile from the cottage. This wasn't a problem for us, but for less active customers it could be a problem.

Thank you for your kind comments however the extra parking on the playing fields is 300 meters away according to Google earth, not the distance described. In several years of renting the cottage this if the first occasion we are aware of that the alternative parking had to be used.I'm already aware that people have read this comment and that it has a negative effect on future bookings.Kind regards Aileen Izzard Property Owner

  • "A goldfish bowl!"

We read all the recent reviews before booking this cottage and were surprised how positive most of them were. There were several mentions of a welcome pack on arrival which we couldn't find anywhere. This was a shame because it would have been a nice touch after us struggling with the trying parking arrangements - we had to park 100m away and then transfer our luggage by foot. The location of the cottage was good for walking and there is a fair pub close by. The description states 'an enclosed rear garden,' which is not true. The rear garden is reached either by the back (kitchen) door of the cottage or by using a gated passage which runs up the side of the cottage. This wouldn't be a problem except mid-week a family of two adults and three children arrived at the adjoining cottage. Although they had their own front door, they chose on several occasions to use the passage to the rear of our cottage, walking around the back and climbing over a 30" fence to reach their rear door. The first time we saw them, I had just finished having a shower and was standing in our illuminated kitchen sporting a small towel! And there was no curtains at the kitchen windows. Shocks all around. We asked them not to use the passage but they continued anyway. It made going into the kitchen a very stressful experience. Beware!

I'm sorry you were not entirely satisfied with your stay and that the weather was not good. Instructions for the night storage heaters is outlined in the information folder in the cottage. We have one in every room as well as the log burner in the living room. Generally in August it is not necessary to have them switched. We were unfortunate to have heavy snow fall and, though upstairs was warm, downstairs was not, and it took several hours for the small woodburner to heat the sitting room. Front door would benefit from some draft excluding tape, and it would be useful if door between kitchen (which was very cold) and sitting room had a handle so could be firmly closed.
