Settled within Holyrood Park, Arthur’s Seat is the park’s highest point, with its peak standing at 251 metres.

Look over Edinburgh and the Lothians, all while standing on top of an extinct volcano! The Arthurs Seat view is truly unrivalled.

Directions

  1. Begin at the Holyrood Park Information Centre, making your way into the park and bearing left towards the back of the Crags. Follow the gap between the two lines of crags.
  2. Stay on the main path before bearing right onto the grassy path leading you slightly uphill before reaching the top of Salisbury Crags.
  3. Continue along the edge of the slope uphill until you can eventually see the end of the crags. Take the path slightly to the left rather than following it all the way, and onto the path below to bear right to join the path coming between the two sets of crags.
  4. Make your way up the steps to reach Arthur’s Seat.
  5. Stay on the main path curving round to the side of the hill before bearing left to reach a dip before the final rocky ascent to the summit.
  6. Once at the top, descend to the East to join a path with a metal chain railing. Upon reaching the fork in the paths, continue along the grassy path.
  7. Continue along the main grassy path before bearing slightly right and descending towards St Margaret’s Loch on the left.
  8. Return to Queen’s Drive and continue towards the Information Centre.
