Castle Drogo, Devon

Castle Drogo

This striking and dramatic castle, built in the early 1900s and currently maintained by the National Trust, was the last castle to be built in England. Castle Drogo enjoys breath-taking views high above the Teign Gorge and is a great outing for all.

This Dartmoor delight offers plenty of interiors for you to explore during a tour. Castle Drogo’s very own chapel and extraordinary main areas are just a couple of the fantastic things to uncover here.

The garden is another must see, dating back to over 100 years ago. The garden of Castle Drogo is home to a wealth of beautiful sights, including the Rhododendron Garden, Rose Garden and Herbaceous Borders. The Fragrant Terrace is another highlight, where you can settle down on a bench and soak up the delightful smells of nature.

Castle Drogo backs onto a wealth of walks along Teign Gorge, including the classic circuit. This walk offers ample opportunity to spot Dartmoor ponies and deer.

Castle Drogo Turbine

A special part of the landmark is the Castle Drogo Turbine. The hydro turbine building came to be when the Drewe family moved in.

They used the renewable source to power their lighting, a lift and electric tablecloth. Nowadays, the Castle Drogo Turbine provides power to the visitor centre and can be found along the River Teign.

After exploring the turbine and Castle Drogo itself, why not stop for a sweet treat at the on-site café?

Enjoy a memorable outing at Castle Drogo…
