The Georgian House, Edinburgh
The Georgian House is one of the National Trust for Scotland’s most popular sites and attracts many visitors each year. Local volunteers take care of the property, and you will be able to see the care put into its restoration on a tour.
The house was designed by Scottish architect, Robert Adam, in 1791. It forms part of New Town’s Charlotte Square, neighbouring Bute House, the First Minister of Scotland’s former home.
John Lamont bought the property shortly after its construction and used it as a second home. Nowadays, you can uncover the remnants of his lavish lifestyle on a tour of its three storeys.
The Georgian House is the epitome of its era, with intricate furnishings, porcelain and silver dotted throughout. You’ll also discover the servants’ basement quarters; another nod to Lamonts’ opulent lifestyle.
The house is also a museum, providing you with a range of interactive activities. You and the kids can try on Georgian costumes and give quill writing a go!
Be transported back to the Georgian period by visiting this intriguing museum…
