The Marconi Centre
Visit the site where, in 1900, the Italian inventor Gugliemo Marconi set up the Lizard Wireless Telegraph Station. Here, Marconi received transmission from the Isle of Wight over 180 miles away and proved that radio would work over the horizon, something scientists believed impossible.
Marconi later created another station at Poldhu. Here Marconi sent a signal to Newfoundland over 2100 miles away. The centre is now open to visitors with short wave radios onsite for visitors to listen to and a video explaining the significance of the site. There is also a memorial dedicated to Marconi just a short walk away.
