The Virginia Water walk takes place in the Borough of Runnymede in northern Surrey.

Leading you around the woodland shores of the lake, its flat terrain is perfect for prams and wheelchairs or those in pursuit of a leisurely stroll.

Follow the route anti-clockwise and admire the scatter of historical points of interest along the way.

The Cascade waterfall makes for an especially idyllic spot to stop, while you’ll also find ancient monuments and an abundance of nature.

Directions

Begin at the Virginia Lake Car Park and make your way right to follow the path next to the lake to your left.
Continue along the route until you reach Wick Pond, the giant totem pole ahead.
Follow the path to the right of Wick Pond, heading past the totem pole, and continue towards Obelisk Pond.
Continue along the path next to the dam, then follow the path as it bears left towards a grassy area. Stop for a break at Savill Gardens.
Follow the path to the totem pole, then follow the path to the right to walk parallel along the north shore of the lake in an east-west direction.
Follow this path, passing the Valley Gardens on your right.
Cross over the bridge with Johnson’s Pond on your right.
Continue along the path to pass Five-Arch Bridge, then take the path to the left through the trees. Round the corner to return back to the route alongside the south shore of the lake.
Keep your eye out for the Lepta Magna Roman ruins and the cascades, before continuing along the path to arrive back at the car park.
